Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

I think the gematsu leaker got some correct information, and then just decided to milk the popularity as much as he could and try to take the community for a ride.

The falcon reveal trailer just gave Ridley, K. Rool, Isaac, Ray, Dixie, etc. fans a lot more hope (if only because FE should not have that many reps whilst DK, Metroid and non-playable franchises get left in the dust).

Hell, it's even made me less cynical simply because, even if it's only for a month or two, there's actually a sense of wonder and hope around the game again.

I hope that you would enjoy your vacation but you did a fantastic job with all of that. Did you post any reaction for Robin since they were one of your most wanted character?
.

Extreme satisfaction. By this point nothing can sour this roster for me anymore. I was already satisfied, but this goes far beyond any reasonable expectations I've had.

Especially cause I had a silent hope for Lucina as well, she's one of the big reasons I sorta wished Sakurai didn't exclude outright clones.

Didn't know you were such a big FE fan. That's really cool.

For the record: I really love the movesets for Mii Fighter but I'm curious to see what people would think of this idea.

Imagine this, what if we got three movesets based on the games. Like this,
Wii Sports moveset, Find Mii moveset and Play/Party/NintendoLand moveset.

How people would feel about it?

I'd like that. I haven't played any of those games much if at all, personally.

It's great to hear that you are extremely pleaded with the roster. :D

NintendoLand moveset would be kind of redundant in Smash Bros., imo. Miis representing Nintendo franchises alongside Nintendo franchises representing themselves is... odd.

I would've been fine with some direct references to Wii **** series or even Streetpass Plaza, though.

This comic got reposted like ad infintium back during early X/Y:

I guess it was a case of relative to the other starters Greninja looks like a boss? I definitely recall people being pissed with Chestnaught and calling Delphox furry bait though. I don't think I paid too much attention to the very first leaks coming straight from the game cartridge because there was so much uncertainty and I didn't want to deal with it (lo and behold I think all of it was right) so maybe I missed the initial Greninja hate train.

Here's another random pokemon image I found:

Once mega man was revealed I was satisfied. Since I knew my other favorites were confirmed at e3 13 everything else has been a bonus.

I think a lot of people are. I know I definitely am. Mega man, little mac, and now a tome-using fire emblem rep? Fantastic. I know I definitely am. (still want my ganondorf revamp, but it's not a dealbreaker). Current roster could be final and it would be fine (assuming the original 12 and ice climbers all return).

I think a lot of us only nitpick because we're bored, but in reality, a lot of us are really happy.

lol

You should have seen the meltdowns when Greninja was leaked.

I remember being so hype for Greninja, I accidentally posted fan art of him... On the first page of the Pokemon X/Y OT. Never in my forum posting life had I felt so simultaneously stupid and sad for people than when I got a PM dated several minutes (hours?) earlier asking for me to take it down after going out for a bit.

I dunno about that, I know on here these characters are being clamored for, but the reality is that at the moment Fire Emblem is bigger than all of those franchises, and has more entries and been with Nintendo longer than all of them.

I'm all for those characters getting included, but even though it might not be what some want, FE getting 4 reps doesn't necessarily mean anything for the other characters

I don't really see the point in hating on characters that got in over other characters. Just hope for those characters you want to get in rather than pointlessly bickering.

There is no way the FE franchise is bigger than the DK franchise. Not at all. I don't care that FE has more characters though, that is pretty much independent of that fact. I do wish for Dixie though.

I remember that, that PM was from me too lol.

I like Delphox. Sure the fire stick in the tail was cool during the second stage, but it's a Firefox mage.

I mean... they're both kinda the same thing. They're both imitators of the original :p

But one of them is a girl and the other one is a hideous freak of nature, painfully mutated and misshapen until it no longer resembles its former self.

also it has three eyes i mean what's up with that

Whoa, that's badass fanart of pokemon/human.

You have a good point there then I could change NintendoLand to Wii Music.

Yeah, that's true but people are upset that Sakurai don't pick "fan favorites" characters but it's excellent roster if all veterans came back!

That's why I chose Dark Samus and not Isaac or Ray.

I prefer Metroid to FE, sue me!

I still think it's relatively surreal to get so many newcomers that are so recent, kinda makes me feel that sakurai would at least try to balance it with more classic character newcomers.

I think dark samus is meant to be genderless, not a girl.

What if dark samus was in the game, but she was an exact clone of samus (but her moves were only visually different - phazon missiles, bombs, etc), like lucina is to marth. Only difference is her moves have less knockback but do more percent.

If dark samus was in the game, she most definitely should/would be a clone except with more phazon abilities.

It'd be cool if she was more of a glass cannon character, does more damage than samus thanks to phazon, but is much easier to KO.

She should have the scatter beam instead of the power beam and the phazon tentacles as a down smash.

I'd want a few more differences than that (I think the rapid fire arm cannon the assist trophy has is a good example), but I do think she'd work fine as a pseudo-clone.

I doubt it. Even as an assist trophy, her moves are completely different. Though I wouldn't mind if she was added as the kind of pseudo-clone people decry Wolf for in SSB5.

Back before X/Y came out, one of the main Pokemon designers even mentioned how he thought Greninja was one of his favorite designs.

Anyway, was looking through an old rosters I made in 2012 and comparing it to what we know now...

* I stupidly thought Lucario would be cut. Yes, it's stupid since he was popular still being featured in BW2 advertisements. I didn't know he'd be getting a new "Mega", or what a "Mega" even was, in a few months either.

* I guessed Snake would be cut. Seems he will be, too. This was before all the stuff with Hayter being replaced and such, I just felt having Raiden in PSABR and Snake in Smash would feel sort of weird.

* I guessed every veteran other than those two from Brawl would return. This was before we knew about the difficulties with the 3DS Version that meant the Pokemon would be cut. I also thought Mewtwo would return, and this was before he (or rather, she) was revealed to be returning in the upcoming Genesect Movie. Also with Link I thought he'd be his SS design, which didn't happen.

* Takamaru would get in. Guessed he'd be a stance change, switching between using his sword, and more ninja skills + shuriken. I still think he can happen, although I'm thinking he might end up being DLC.

* Little Mac. Got it! Pretty much guessed he'd be the traditional Boxer. I actually thought he'd have a Counter move and, when used successfully, would gain Stars powering up his other specials.

* Shulk. I was in Xenoblade HYPE mode. And it seems he'll come true! I saw him playing like Ike, a heavy-sword user. His unique gimmick was the Xenoblade would charge up, during which he'd have no Neutral B, but when charged, he could either unleash a huge slash across the screen, or buff his stats.

* Barbara Bat. I was hoping she'd bridge the pond by now, I wanted her in as a less traditional female character. She did have a new game, Japan-only, recently though, and we haven't seen her AT as far as I know...so, maybe? She'd have rhythmic moves, but I guess the Chorus Men, if they're in, would cover that.

* Tingle. The dream is dead. My idea is he'd be his own series and draw from the Tingle games...he'd be unique in that by racking up damage he'd gain Rupees, and lose them when hurt, and the amount of Rupees he had would influence how powerful his attacks are as opposed to the damage the opponent has. His Specials would use up the Rupees, such as calling one of the bodyguards to attack from him and acting like an Ice Climber.

* Mallo. From Pushmo that is. Since then he's had another Wii U game, and I think he still has a chance as a surprise character. He could pull blocks from the background to make platforms, and use as shields, an unorthodox character.

* K. Rool. Still could happen, maybe. He was like D.K., heavy but fast, and could move crates and barrels without losing speed like D.K. Had his cannonball toss, crown throw, long jump, and the blunderbuss which would shoot out the purple gas from DKC2 that would mess up controls.

* Ridley. Also could still happen. He'd have a mechanic when he'd normally move around on all-fours, and have a new model slightly based on his mid-form in Other M, but briefly could take to the sky and grow wings changing up his moves.

* Medusa. I wanted a female villain. I wouldn't be surprised if we get another KI Uprising rep in Smash 4, but it probably won't be her unless she's a Palutena clone. My idea was that she was a powerful sorceress, with moves based off her generals, like summoning fire, and shooting forth bouncing snakes.

* Dark Pit. Well, it looks like he may happen. He was actually wholly unique from Pit, able to switch between the Uprising Weapons on the go, a bit like Vaan from Dissidia.

* Genesect. He's a Pokeball now, but during making this roster, he was the star of the new movie, and I assumed he'd have a role in XY. I guessed there'd be a new "Ancient Form Genesect", which he'd switch to for a Final Smash. He'd have high-powered beam attacks, and could switch between the Drives.

* Paper Mario. As a counterpart to Toon Link, he'd be more unique than Mario, using his hammer, and various paper skills like the airplane. I still want this to happen.

* Yarn Kirby. The third "material" character alongside Toon and Paper, wouldn't have his copy ability, but his yarn whip instead, and various skills from Epic Yarn. Doubt this will happen since that game was a one-off.

* Pac-Man. Got it! His moveset was summoning the ghosts for all his moves, didn't think Sakurai would go all-out with the Namco Love.

* Mega Man. Got it! My idea for him was he'd have the Mega Buster, Slide, Rush Jet, and Teleport as moves. I didn't guess he'd have the various Robot Master moves, instead if he hit the opponent with a fully charged Mega Buster, he'd gain a projectile version of one of the character's attacks and change colors (like for Mario he'd get the Fireball, but for, say, D.K., who has no projectile, he'd fire off a giant fist). He could then use Taunt to switch back to the Mega Buster to get a new move.

* Bomberman. Still want this to happen...he'd replace Snake as Konami's rep. He'd be all about laying down bombs, which he'd be vulnerable to as well so you had to plan carefully where you placed them.

Most people would prefer Mewtwo, giygas could work as a stage boss though.

There's no problem with having more Pokemon if that's what you're worried about, I think Mother/Earthbound is fine with 2 reps, but if they were to add another one Kumatora would be higher up on the list than Giygas.

Hell, Ninten clone of Ness would probably be higher than Giygas just because many people would think Giygas is unfeasible.

I'm personally not worried about too many Pokemon. I know some people have complained though, that's why it was a random thought. Plus I was looking up something and someone posted a Giygas picture from Mother 1, and I went from there. Lol

Another Mother rep would be cool though. Especially one from each of the 3 games. I just concluded that maybe Mother could get a Villian and thought how Giygas and Mewtwo were similar. Maybe a clone could happen too. Ha

Ninten would be cool though.

Thanks for spoiling the design of final boss of the game I'm currently playing :(

Sorry. I'm used to spoiling things for myself mainly because getting / seeing how it gets to that point in a story is usually more fun to me. You know, the details.

Really am sorry though. :(

What basis is there to think that?
Krystal is the most plausible pick for a SF newcomer, & one who wouldn't necessarily be a clone due to her staff. She was 1 of the more commonly name dropped characters in general since pre-Brawl. A coming Star Fox sequel/reboot gives reason to put more focus on the franchise in SSB.

Advance Wars is the sister series of FE yet has so far has zero reps vs. FE's 4 (5 counting Roy). There's really only about 3-4 characters from AW that make any sense to use:
A. Andy-Closest there is to main protagonist, can uses wrenches as weapons
B. Max-Big powerhouse with hard hitting punches.
C. Sami-Infantry specialist whose always depicted with a weapon in hand.
D. The player's soldier from Battalion Wars
E. Implements Dual Strike's tag team feature for 2 of the above

No one gives a damn about Battalion Wars here (is it at all popular in Japan?) so might as well scratch D. Character transformations are out so E ain't happening either. While Andy might technically be the main hero of AW, we've seen with Chrom & Lucina that alone doesn't guarantee a spot. Sami's infantry specialization & fondness of weaponry gives the impression of her being more believable as a direct combatant than any other CO in the series. Then there's the occasional "Snake replacement" argument where some say Sami can take over Snake's moveset if he doesn't return, which seems certain at this point.

Plus anything that would inspire more Sami Rule 34 is a good thing in my book

& just to clarify, there's also a number of male humans from Poke'mon I'm ok with joining as well (like Red & Surge) but they weren't relevant to the question.

Yeah check the edit.

sigh, the tentacles would have been such a perfect down smash.

I hope sm4sh is going to be moddable to the extent that brawl was/is.
