I don't understand Awakening's love. Never finished it (after losing twice to a mission and basically throwing an entire hour of my life in the garbage I simply gave up on it), so I don't know, but for what I've seen (10 chapters circa) it's... OK. Very forgettable.
I got right close to the end from what I remember simply because I didn't have anything else to play at the time.
I'm a very gameplay-first oriented person and really don't give a shit about stories or characters outside of memorable designs, so I think if you're into stories and aren't too bothered playing a pretty average SRPG then you'll probably like it. If it's your favourite genre you'll probably love it simply because there aren't many of those these days.
I hear a lot of "hardcore" fire emblem fans (like someone mentioned earlier) saying it's the one of the worst in the series because of it's pandering to waifu related rubbish and dumbed down mechanics but then I'll hear other people who are obviously fire emblem fans saying it's great, so idk.
I don't see all the hate. If you're a girl in Smash Bros not named Sheik or Villager, chances are you've been sexualized already by the fans who funnily enough don't want Krystal just because she "sends a furry message."
As a furry, I don't want Krystal for various reasons. Also, Krystal's debut appearance was already sexualized - not much need for the fans to do so.
- She was from a game that was shoehorned into the Star Fox franchise and wasn't originally intended to be.
- Her role was degraded from protagonist into damsel in distress and blatant sex object (heck, the cutscene in which Fox first sees her is accompanied by bawdy 70s saxophone music).
- The game in which she appeared in was the landmark that started the downfall of the Star Fox series; I see her as a personification of that.
- The game she is from also is a super mediocre Ocarina of Time clone with terribly executed but still required minigames.
- She's a terrible character that was portrayed as a bitch (no pun intended) particularly in Command. Beyond being an insufferable bitch, she only exists for Fox to swoon over, and has less personality than any of the other main characters of the series, including the rivals from the Star Wolf team.
- Her use of the staff is limited to the tutorial of Adventures only - Fox used it more than her in the game she debuted in, and it never appears again in any of the subsequent games. If anyone should get the staff, it should be Fox.
Personally, I would prefer any other possible character over Krystal, including Geno or Son Goku or Batman. I just absolutely loathe the character, what she represents, and what has been done to her.

I already bought it on release date, but I haven't open the seal. I'm tempted to move FE:A up to the list in order to complete. Right now, my goal is The Last Window, Mario 3D World and Xenoblade.

Awakening was my first Fire Emblem (other than playing bits and pieces of Path of Radiance), and I think it's pretty amazing as an introduction to the series. Its main campaign is pretty easy, the bonus chapters get pretty tough, the characters are all engaging (I'd bet each one of them is someone's favorite). The biggest problem is that the story is really sort of generic... but it's not bad just meh.
It single-handedly turned me into a "not really into Fire Emblem" sort of guy into a "hmm, I've gotta play some more Fire Emblem" one. But I've always liked turn-based strategy games, so that might play a role.
She's got terrible character design, an annoying personality, and has only appeared in bad games. I think the largest reason people want her in is just because she's female and Nintendo doesn't have a ton of those. But everything about her just feels like modern Rare crossed with Sonic `06. Just everything about her is bleck to me.
I think you're underestimating the number of "new Star Fox" fans. I've only ever played the Gamecube Star Fox games, personally - for me, that's what Star Fox is, and there's a lot of gamers (particuarly from the lead-up to Brawl) that are along the same lines. Krystal is a big part of that era. They're "modern Sonic" quality games, but there's no shortage of modern Sonic fans on the internet, either.
Also, let's be fair, there's not any Star Fox characters that are what you'd call well-written. It's a goofy, cliche-ridden space opera and always has been.
I'm with you on this. I liked Radiant Dawn as a book-end to the Tellius series, however.
As someone who is more of a fan of the older games than Awakening, I still like and respect it. It's basically the gateway drug for new fans to get curious about the rest of the series.
And then immediately realize that PoR is like, $180 bucks on Amazon.

What's not to understand? It's a fun SRPG with rewarding and easy to grasp mechanics, a huge cast of fairly fun characters, and it constantly rewards you for investing more time into the game by way of encouraging you to learn more about that huge cast of characters (and diversify your team) with support ranks or the vast metagame that managing those relationships open up. On top of the attractive art design, intelligent UI streamlining that Awakening adds (by far the most visibly improved aspect of the game relative to other FE games), and huge degree of content in the game, I don't think it's any surprise that Awakening is as popular as it is.
It's not as deep as the Tellius Duology, and map design in the game is clearly not up to par (most maps are mostly just flat plains with little variance or reward in intelligent use of terrain) but it's sure as shit not the worst Fire Emblem game ever made or even close to it, by the way.
PoR&RD for me gameplay wise and storyline wise. But at least Awakening's still great, has much better support conversations than Radiant Dawn and the production value is much better. Still, from a pure gameplay standpoint, there's no way Awakening stands to Radiant Dawn's varied objectives, elevation, no-grinding, fairer support, etc.

for me awakening has been my favorite game so far (my first was the sacred stones) but ive played the others in the series and while i dont have path of radiance (my friend sold his copy) i do have a copy of radiant dawn which i will treasure forever lol

Agreed with all this (well, barring the Goku, Geno or Batman part, anyway!).
It makes me wonder what the next StarFox game will be like. I honestly wouldn't mind at all if it basically just acts like most of the other games after 64 don't exist and just does its own thing.
In other news...hell yeah for the return of the Smash Dojo (sort of)!

Robin, the protagonist from Fire Emblem: Awakening
Select male or female the same way you rotate colors
Uses the Levin Sword for Smash attacks and various tomes for his special attacks
Both weapons disappear after a certain number of uses and will automatically recover after a set amount of time passes OR the player loses a stock/gets KO'd
Side Smash: horizontal slice with electric shock damage, automatically switches to bronze sword after a set number of uses
Forward Aerial: can use the Levin Sword a set number of times by Smashing the aerial (note: this implies that tilting to use the aerial will simply summon the bronze sword)
Down Special - Nosferatu: summons out a snake-shaped purple curse in front of him/her, drains % from opponents hit by the curse, amount recovered increases when striking an opponent from behind
Neutral Special - Thunder: chargeable projectile, press once to charge and cycle through Thunder -> Elthunder -> Arcthunder ->Thoron, press again to unleash spell, can shield while charging to hold the charge (a la Charge Shot) and press again to resume charging
Side Special - Arcfire: projectile that launches diagonally downward (a la PK Fire), summons a pillar of flames whenever the spell hits the ground/a character/an item
Up Special - Elwind: fires two projectiles almost directly downward and leaps up when performed in the air, doesn't even jump when the tome has expired (note: no news about how it performs on the ground
Final Smash - Pair Up: Chrom performs a dashing slash, opponents caught in the attack are launched into the air and subjected to an onslaught of slashes from Chrom and spells from Robin
Will continue translating after I finish eating with my family.
1. Lucina was originally included as a Marth skin.
2. “A certain character” was cut during development. (Chrom? Who knows. It's not clarified.)
3. Sakurai didn’t want to reduce the total number of characters.
4. It wasn’t possible to make a brand new character on short notice.
5. Lucina was repurposed into her own character slot to fill the void.
If so, this is STRONGLY in favor of the gematsu leak
The section of the article shown (from this week's Sakurai column) doesn't mention any cut characters, but it could have just been excluded from the scan. I'm in the US right now, but I can pick up a copy when I get back if we can't find a better scan before then.

Yeah, I was exaggerating a bit maybe.
But I've always been a big fan of the Star Fox series, and I don't even mind the series experimenting with different genres (heck, I actually thought Assault was alright, but Command wasn't terrible at least), and Adventures was just such a let down for me. I was sincerely looking forward to playing the game, and in the end, it was a messy OoT clone with a really dumb story. It's basically Fox saving Sauria because he's got the hots for Krystal. Like, that's his main motivation for saving that planet. And the finale also is so unsatisfying. Such a dumb game.

Wow. I've been spending a lot of time with my family this week (since I'm rarely ever back in the US now), but SmashGAF is just as active as ever!

While I think Krystal's design is actually pretty good (especially compared to the rest of the Star Fox cast), you're right about her personality. It's not Krystal's fault that the more recent games have sucked though, she hardly plays a more significant role than anyone else.
As far as the staff goes, while Fox used it more, canonically it belongs to Krystal. More importantly, Fox already has a good moveset. Giving him the staff might damage that.
Of course, we got a staff user in Palutena, so I'm satisfied, but I wouldn't say no to a second staff wielder. And if anyone can fix Krystal's personality, it would be Sakurai.

Totally buying a copy of Awakening as soon as I get back to Tokyo.

Oh, I'm well aware of the number of new Star fox fans; without them we wouldn't see so many requests for Krystal in the first place. That doesn't change my opinion on her. If that's what Star Fox always was it probably wouldn't have any characters in Smash anyway.
And yes, no Star Fox is well written. But there's a difference between funny campy characters with personalities that match their gameplay uses, and a shoe horned love interest with no added value to the game. She doesn't fit the franchise and she's the qunitessential uninteresting love interest thrown in to try and make things more "serious," or whatever. She's just annoying.
Plus, again, her character design. Not just hideous, but it makes me uncomfortable.
There's a reason no one likes Rare anymore and she was the start of it. She clearly represents everything about them that suck. She doesn't feel Nintendo in the slightest.
