MS: Xbox One June 2014 sales more than double May 2014's sales

Serious question - Do you guys think that the XB1 will ever out sell the PS4 this generation in NA? Or globally for that matter?

In a single month? They already did in December didn't they?
Going forward though it is less likely to happen again. I could see it possibly happening in a month with a major price drop (putting it below PS4) or something.

Did anyone even buy an Xbox One in May? They announced that price drop almost a full month before it took effect on June 9.

Yeah, M$ essentially cannibalized their May sales... Wonder why they'd do something that crazy.

*Looks to thread title bearing a boast about Xbone sales that is superficially great news, but upon closer inspection, ultimately specious and misleading...

Oh, that's why they did something that crazy.

Like for a month? Because I could definitely see MS outsell PS4 for a month or two in the US
MS actually outsold Sony way back in December last year, I think, so that should technically count. I think that's the happiest Christmas the Xbox division is gonna have this gen ;)

Edit: beaten.

Me neither. The Wii U already has 35-40k sales in Japan alone hasn't it for June (assuming those Media Create sales figures average 10k a week or so in Japan)?

I love the Wii U and all, but I don't think it sold enough in the US in June for 40k in Japan to put it over the Xbox One. I have no idea what the sales are like in the rest of the world.

Considering there are no games worth buying a console for, that is ok.

I don't know why people are shocked that the PS4 would outsell the Xbox. It's a more popular brand world wide ATM.

I think people are surprised because they're at the same price now and the 360 dominated the PS3 in the US last generation. IIRC it was ahead by at least 15 million.

The next chance of the X1 outselling the PS4 would probably be November. I don't know how big HD collections are for hardware sales though, especially since this one will have multiple games and a Halo 5 beta.

Yeah, obviously depends on the sales figures for the myriad other markets the Wii U is in. It's WW sales must be pretty close to the Xbone for June though regardless.

If the Bone did 155k in NA, the ROTW could be what, as low as 90k? The Xbone seems like it's completely dead in Europe at least, sans the UK.

Considering that XB1 hasn't even "officially" launched in a lot of European countries it isn't hard to see why the numbers are so low there...

I know everyone is assuming they didn't win NPD for June because of this preemptive release, but didn't Sony do this several months back? They had a preemptive release and everyone made the assumption they had lost the month, but then still won. May have been back when Titanfall launched...

For the record, I think PS4 wins June as well, but not because of this early release.

It's called common sense. June is a 5-week period as opposed to the 4 for May.

So unless PS4 sold 40-50k less over a longer period, then no. It's pretty much certain the PS4 won June's NPD, the only question is how much.

My prediction iirc was for the PS4 to sell 220k in June.

Did you miss where I said "I think PS4 wins June as well"? It's one thing to calculate the math and make an assumption (that is probably accurate). It's entirely different to think that MS lost just b/c they came out with a sales-related the day before NPD. That reason alone isn't enough of a reason to make that assumption, but as you point out, the math is.

I was simply asking if Sony hadn't done the same thing before with an early release about sales numbers. They did, although the circumstances were drastically different, of course.

But

XB1 is already being sold in the majority of those countries simply on the gray market or if you're British the grey market

Yeah it's not like this tired argument hasn't been used before. The XB1 is already available in most of those countries, and those are mostly PS/PC-dominated markets anyway.

Cool, glad it spiked sales.

PS4 will still beat it but good to see some decent sales for X1.

Wii U should have some sales thanks for MK8 too.

How much more sales do you think MS is going to get in Finland, Slovakia, Switzerland and the like, exactly?

I think also your first sentence shows that if you want one, you can readily buy them if you live in these markets, just not officially. So in short, this won't have much of an impact on their WW figures.

Unless the Xbone does gangbusters in Japan. And pigs are spotted flying across the north of England.

Xbox One consoles are readily available in all of those countries.

Do you think Microsoft is going to perform extensive advertising campaigns when they "officially launch"?

There won't be all that much practical difference between the two scenarios. Any sales potential is already being accounted for.

That argument doesn't work. There's "No games worth buying a console for" for the PS4 either. June was the first month when the two consoles were on an even playing field. Goes to show that price isn't the only issue the X1 is facing.

Yup, but only because X1s were almost literally stacked up to the ceiling and Sony was selling every single Ps4 they could ship.

Which countries do you think about when you hear the term large European video game markets? My thoughts go to the UK, Germany, France, and Spain. The XB1 is already available in those countries, no?

It sold 170k with no games, so that's good.

I'm just re-reading the MS PR.

Since the new Xbox One offering launched on June 9th, we’ve seen sales of Xbox One more than double* in the US, compared to sales in May

Key words: since June 9th.

So the sales just doubled compared with May after June 9th... that means less than 154k can be true too.

We need more data.

The only way the Xbox will get in the race is worthy games. It's not selling well on word of mouth. There are so many people buying Ps4s because of its positive image. Hundreds of thousands each month but the Ps4 because it's the "cool" console to own.

Damn, that price drop bump was the only thing I could see help the XB1 make a dent in the gap, it's probably going to trail behind for the rest of the year.

So the PS4 is only selling because of hype?

One thing I disagree with in here is people counting out the Halo collection's impact this fall. I really think that game will be the highest selling exclusive of the year and will move a significant amount of consoles.

It's going to be a rough one for Xbox until they make it to the fall release season, and it'll be really interesting to see how things shake out this holiday.

Cool. Well anyone assuming MS lost out in June NPD purely because they are doing what appears to be a pre-emptive strike would be a bit silly.

But no-one is doing that afaik.

My predictions dead was once again. July should be a worse month than June, right? 4 weeks and all. Long year ahead for MS.

How is it dead on? Looks high compared to most others (PS4 is low too).

Is it possible that maybe, people just don't want an X1 (at least, the mainstream audience)?

Curious if the XB1 can topple the JUGGERNAUT PS4 this month in sales. If MS can't manage that with a $100 price drop, they dun goofd

MCC might sell well, but I doubt it will significantly boost console sales. I believe most of the game's audience will already have an xbone.

IMO it is. It's the consumers console, the most powerful console, the "every experience is ether here" console, etc. There's not really a huge library of games to sell it.
The game library is bigger and have more variety than XB1... if I'm not wrong 70 vs 50 titles or even bigger difference... it have more games coming this and next year too.

How do you explain the fact that a significant share of software sales is coming from the PS4, then?

Your argument is nonsense.
