Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

they were animated really smoothly though? So I don't really get why

i thought the jerky thing was a throw back to his retro origins, and a call back to the WarioLand games, not Warioware. Why do people keep saying Warioware? did someone write that on a wiki?

Mainly because Rhythm Heaven and WarioWare are made by the same people, though I'd guess the Chorus Kids wouldnt have the jerky style since it makes Wario more unique.

There will never be a 2nd F-Zero character.

I've been thinking about it. Why is nobody suggesting Kraid? He might be a better inclusion than Ridley.

I'm imagining a Bowser clone with Guile Sonic Boom style projectiles. Would be a big relief since approach was one of his biggest weaknesses in past games.
Because Ridley was in 7 Metroid games and Kraid was in three. Mother Brain and Dark Samus were also in three, but they were main antagonists, not flunkies.

Also, that's not Kraid, that's fake Kraid. The original Metroid also had a fake Kraid. Real Kraid was only small in the original Metroid (Not that it really matters).

i didn't notice this at all. idk what to think about it tbh. might be too much of a buff. as if fox needed more benefits
But fox isn't good like melee fox. S4 fox is much more similar to brawl fox. Shine is garbage, can't jump out of shine, up-smash nerfed, etc.

Melee Fox is boring to watch anyhow. Too many KO for dummies combos.

Smashboards is talking about that, speculating possible new demo build or something.
I liked the transition in the E3 build, but you can't argue with better load times.

That's a drastic improvement from the Best Buy demo. It felt like there was actual slowdown once the game said time, like that the game wasn't running well. So I'm glad to see that be fixed, though I figured it would be.
They're two months from release, and games are usually complete a month before release during which they go through certification. Any footage released from now until release will likely be from more optimized builds.

It's very likely that the E3 build was quite old by the time people got their hands on it.

Melee fox is one of the most technical and interesting fighting game characters in existence, but okay, opinions and all that.

you guys think this is a new build? maybe its just me, but the characters seem to move more...fluidly. or quicker. idk the physics look better!
A lot of people in the Smashboards thread are commenting it does seem to have some differences. Not sure if it's wishful thinking or actual change, but they keep mentioning Mario as being one of the characters with little landing lag, so I'm a happy camper. :)

I really dislike timed matches, wish Nintendo did something short, like 2 stock matches for these demos if they're worried about time.

3-4 months from release on the Wii U version, and for what it's worth the 3DS version never glitched up on anyone while I was there at the demo, though the Wii U did a couple of times. But yeah, I'm expecting the game to be more and more optimized as we see more demos.

That said, I wish they'd have the demos say, in big, huge capital letters "FINAL SMASH IS NOW DONE BY HOLDING SPECIAL. HOLDING. YOU HAVE TO HOLD IT." This change screwed up everyone who played the game and is the reason most the people playing it didn't manage to get their final smash off.

thats awesome! i really really hope they took the fan's consideration and made a new build that shows the improvements over the last E3 one. it seems like (and this is IF they made a new build) a step in the right direction. hoping for the best by release.

I noticed a ton of Smash posters and ads replacing the Mario Kart posters in the demo section of Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara yesterday. Impending demo release?

Would it be likely that the 3DS and Wii U version have different physics? I.e. that the 3DS is closer to Brawl while the Wii U is closer to Melee?

Possibly, it really feels like they are still working on physics and balancing even after the 3DS release, atleast thats the impression im getting, I wouldnt be surprised if changes were made once the WiiU version is out

I thought Japan was getting the Wii U version September. Guess I'm mistaken.

You have to hold the special button? That messes with the timing. Why not allow players to activate it by pressing both special and normal at the same time?

Japan (and those of us throwing away $250 to play the game 3 weeks early) get the 3DS version on September 13th.

And yeah. On one hand it does fuck up timing a bit, though I wonder how it'll affect characters like Meta Knight. The only characters in the demo who I used the final smash with-Megaman and Mario-don't have final smashes that require super-precise positioning. On the flipside, it means characters can still use neutral special while having the Smash Ball.

eh, i would hope so! but, would it be easy for someone to hack the demo's files and find anything? if so, Nintendo would probably be cautious about it.

At least in this demo, it seems like a lot of characters have certain aerials that have landing lag and others that don't. So, hopefully if this is the same in the final game, it becomes a major part of strategy as to which aerials you use when, more so than in past games. Almost like l-canceling is automatically applied to some moves.

I also am totally not a pro player, so feel free to tear apart what I just said. :P

Awesome they're dying at much lower percentage there

Yeah that stood out to me too and pleases me. Granted, items are on and its free for all but that was the trend I was noticing all throughout. Makes me happy as that was my biggest beef with a lot of the E3 footage.

Oh my gosh, how have I not heard about this?! This is fantastic! I can't tell you how many times I've used a Final Smash without even meaning to...

Sounds more "brawl-like" in theory from how you're explaining it when you explain "aerials" like that. Which i'm all for since it seems to balance out how some characters might handle as some may have longer cool-downs in their attacks. Keeps things more even amongst players who can combo better than others.

If anything, lets hope they keep the aerial game balanced...for Little Mac's sake. lol

No worries though, i'm probably worse at this game than you are! :p
I only play smash for fun!

I guess Sakurai's words pretty much kill the idea that he wouldn't include actual costumes based on other characters. So, aside from clones, we could actually get something like an actual Daisy costume for Peach (rather than just colors/dress) this time.

Initially, I had considered including Lucina as one of Marth's alternate costumes. After all, she has a close relationship with him in FE:A. In such cases, even if two characters' names and voices differ, as long as they function the same way, I assign them as alternate costumes.

Considering that Marth is using his Shadow Dragon/New Mystery of the Emblem design instead of his Awakening DLC design, I'd imagine that, if Roy were in the game, he'd probably keep his Binding Blade design.

Lucina being a costume and later character could explain that though. Marth and Lucina share the same outfit in Awakening, so you wouldn't give it to Marth if you were planning to add Lucina somehow.

So, that bit about Lucina taking someone else's slot was fake as hell. Good.

However, both the tomes and the Levin Sword will quickly regenerate after a set period of time.

Knew it, not stock based, would've made no sense.

At the end of the day, Chrom would just end up being another plain-old sword-wielder like Marth and Ike.

LOL at Sakurai admitting the "too many blue haired swordsmen" meme as true!

So, I may be late here, but didja guys hear the Gamestop rumor? According to it, not only is the Wii U version releasing on November 21, but every game will include a free Amiibo figure.

Man, if this is true, there go my plans to get the game digital, demolished just like that.

And risk two people just playing to test out moves and taking ages to end their go? Two minutes ensures they get their time and then they're off.

Exactly they wanted everyone to make sure they got a turn to play rather than just letting 2-4 people hog it until they felt satisfied.

Anyone besides me think that Lucina is kinda of boring? I dunno if anyone remembers but during Melee's development, Sakurai intended to add Leif in as a clone of Marth, but was kicked in favor of Roy due to fire making his attacks look more interesting and visually distinct. The same could be said about Lucina, she's just nothing interesting due to her lack of any interesting features and her only draw is easy mode Marth.

Still kinda salty that Chrom couldn't be implemented in a way that wasn't a final smash as his design is one of my favorites in Awakening. I'm a-okay with Robin being playable though, as I love Robin's design and moveset. Still dunno how I feel about the Levin sword getting broken if it's supposed to be your fall back.. hopefully the bronze sword isn't too terrible.
