Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I'm not a stick expert, but I've used original TEs, Super version, and now I use the SFxT versions of those. For that price, it's a good buy. The body feels a bit more hollow and maybe a bit louder as a result, but it does the job. I like the shape and sloped front. Probably the best value for sticks with Sanwa parts at that price. If you want the Sanwa parts and a capable, but "no-frills" stick they're good.

Any idea if that thing is compatible with PC?

I finally got my old PS3 Fightstick SE working with a cheap USB controller card, but ideally I'd want a stick I can bring over to a buddy's house since we all play on PC. That sale seems like a pretty good deal.

360 one works just fine, not sure about the USB issues for the PS3 one. It might be the same as the original TEs, I dunno.

That's totally wild. Decent features and Full Sanwa to.

I like the killswitch on the bottom to make it tournament friendly.
I think it came out but not 100% sure on that. One weird bit about it is that it wasn't full Sanwa iirc, like 4 buttons were but the other 4 weren't.

Hey Arcade-Gaf. I was hoping I could pick some brains and maybe (for pay) recruit someone to help me out a little? I tried this in the EVO thread, but that moves at breakneck pace.

First, relevant background. I'm a gamer with SMA (a form of Muscular Dystrophy) which is a degenerative neuro-muscular disease. Point is... despite them always being a true love of mine, fighting games are really only accessible to me when using an arcade-stick. No problem right? Well, disability or not, I was quite the baller back in my day, winning shares of SF2 tournaments around the US North-East in the early days. Thing is, being an 80s/90s US arcade kid... I developed ALL my muscle memory on Octagonal Gate arcade sticks. (Hell, even my beloved PS1 Ascii Pad had one).

So now i'm coming out of fighting game retirement, and with ten more years of my disability acting on me and eating away at my muscle-health/strength, etc... I am finding that adjusting to a Square-Gate is just not doing it for me. I own a MvC2 LE Fight-Stick from MadKatz which is beautiful, but just doesn't feel right for me (which is fine as my wife has taken a liking to it).

Anyway... Its time for me to get back in the proverbial game. While I wait for the PS4/XBone to take up the mantle of "fighting game platform", I will be doing 99% of my fighting game playing on PC/Steam. As such, I would like a nice, mid-range fight-stick of some kind, that is obviously PC compatible (I know a few earlier PS3 Madkatz sticks weren't).

Problem is, I also need a Octagonal-Gate which I know no one sells standard. I appreciate that its literally a $3.00 part and a quick fix, but what is an easy fix for most of you proves a little too complicated a task for me physically (and my wife is devoid of tech talent). In a perfect world, pie-in-the-sky dreams, I also love/prefer the style of buttons which had a really feather touch, but distinct "click" where you could hear/feel when you had depressed it enough. The stock set-up on my MvC2 stick again has that kind of "mushier" play where you just push until it stops.

If anyone is feeling helpful, generous, or knows a service of this kind, I would LOVE to just be able to Paypal (Amazon gift-card, whatever...) someone who could get me an arcade stick, and do the modifications for me. I'd obviously pay for all the components, the stick, shipping, and your time/trouble.

Thanks guys. And at the very least, thanks for keeping my fighting spirit thriving with a great Fighting-Game-GAF community, during EVO weekend. :-)

Maybe ask over on the Shoryuken forums, I'm specifically thinking of this thread which has local modders:

For light yet clicky buttons there's stuff that exists afaik, although I don't have experience with them myself. As for the gate, assuming you were playing on the usual Happ sticks, sure you're not thinking of circular movement? In any case there's a circular gate too, and bat tops and heavier springs might make a Sanwa feel closer still.

That is pure insanity. Why would you do that?
Straight up cost cutting I assume. I think the non Sanwas were concave instead of convex too but I'm going off of increasingly vague memories of it at this point. Maybe there was some wacky design logic with the decision with the switchable sides and whatever, but still a weird choice considering the main uses of arcade sticks in general these days.

So I ordered a KE from the EVO sale since it looked smaller and a lot more portable. Then I looked up reviews and found out it's not really customizable. It'll be my first stick ever so it's not too much of a deal breaker but goddammit I should've done my research beforehand.

Bought a Fighting Stick Mini 3 for fun though I'm debating on what stick I want to buy for P4Ultimax once it's released here in the US. The HRAP V4 off Amazon is tempting but I keep wanting to hold onto hope that the MadCatz Persona stick will show up here in the US.

Stick's definitely on the cute side but yeah, I definitely need something bigger as well as compatibility with both the PS3 and PS4 (which I finally plan on picking once the Destiny bundle drops).

Here's a pic of the stick... with Boota to give you an idea of the size. Boota's about palm-sized.

Might want to look at HBFS buttons if he wants something clicky (cherry blue are the most clicky).

Incidentally, someone asked me in the EVO thread, why a round or octagonal gate would suit me better, and beyond the fact that i'd used one for a decade+ in gaming (Arcades in the US circa 1993+, and also the PSX Ascii arcade sticks), I had a little light-bulb moment this morning...

... ridiculous of me to not notice sooner, but my power-wheelchair's joystick is a round-gate. I was absent-mindedly dragon-punching on my control while re-watching some of the EVO steam, and it occurred to me that I have 35 years of muscle-memory on that kind of setup, without having consciously thought of it. :-p

Anyway, the hunt is still on. I've posted elsewhere asking around. Meanwhile as money is tight and I am trying to be efficient, I am thinking I really need to do this on a future-proof stick (IE, PS3/PC AND PS4 compatible) so I don't suddenly need to spend a mountain of money I barely have... TWICE.

Anyone have experience with the HRAP4 that Amazon has for preorder?

Edit: From what research I have been able to do, it sounds like the HRAP4 has the light-clicky Kuro buttons, and obviously it is PC/PS3/PS4 compatible... so that seems to check most of my boxes... but it still leaves me with the question of the gate. I'm unfamiliar with higher-end Hori sticks... do they mod easily enough? I'd prefer to stick with MadCatz as a base, as I have used and trusted their sticks for years now... but if this is as close as I am going to get without mods anyway?

Question:
The USB cord storage compartment on my Qanba Q4 stick doesn't close/shut anymore. I checked around and it doesn't look like the latch broke or any parts have snapped off, but the door just doesn't 'click' anymore. Any ideas on a quick DIY fix?

Have a strong urge to get an arcade stick or fighting stick for my fighting and shoot-em-ups (PC aka 360).

So little to choose from where I live (Norway), pretty much only the Razer Atrox and Mad Catz Fightstick Pro and TE. Can't find anything else online. No fightpads at all, at least not that I have found

All the 360 sticks works on PC right?

What's a good stick carrying bag? Was going to pick up the messenger bag type from the Mad Catz booth at Evo but it sold out. Looking at the Qanba bag or the messenger style Mad Catz one. Any recomendations?

I got the Qanba bag (last one at the arcadeshock booth, woot!). I love it. I wish I'd had it before EVO. I needed a bag to fit the Fighting Edge and this is perfect.

Despite the size how is are the buttons and stick? I was thinking of dabbling in one for mainly my PC since my TE-S can't work for my PC.

Whoa, wish I knew that bag fit the FE, I have the same problem here... didn't spend much time browsing the exhibitor section at Evo though, was too busy raging at the rude Aksys staffers that ran the Kana Ueda autograph.

I heard Korean pushbuttons are a bit smaller than the sanwa and seimitsu 30mm standard. Maybe the base can't fit other buttons?

I'm next to certain that the KE has normal sized Sanwa buttons in it.

It also shares the form factor of the SE Stick and/or Brawl stick, so look up how people customized those. If I remember correctly, it required stripping the artwork from the panel and getting a thick sticker printed at FedEx Office.

To me, the stick is serviceable but I need more practice to get some finesse with my combos (was testing it with P4A) while the buttons were responsive though they feel a bit soft rather than clicky.

For $40, it's not a bad stick actually and is very portable. You'll definitely need to put it on a surface rather than your lap - it's too small to rest comfortably if you don't set it on a hard surface.

I just ordered the Mad Catz Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2 for Xbox One.

this will be my first "real" stick and I want to customize it and have a question, I heard that there is a template you can download for you to do your custom artwork on, but I can't find it, was hoping somebody may know. Not looking for artwork, just a scaled template with the holes located.

Also I see it has the ability to run led buttons. To do this do I need to just purchase the buttons or do I need more?

There are some templates there. Should be able to photoshoppy shop them if you have dem skills.

Does anybody have an instruction manual for this stick? I still can't figure out how my RT got set to back or how to default the stick to normal buttons. I guess if I plinked, it would be cool, but I don't, so it's annoying.

Does anyone have any experience with Korean fight sticks? Thinking of buying the mad Katz fight stick ke . Or , should I just mod my sf4 arcade stick with a octagon gate and baseball bat it?

Got my Madcatz FS Pro for PS3 yesterday. Works great on my PC as well. For $80, this thing is am awesome deal. Really happy with it!

The Korean sticks use a circular gate and the joystick itself has a bit more resistance than a Sanwa stick, so when you let go of the stick it snaps back to neutral faster. The most standout difference between Korean/Japanese sticks is how the microswitches are pressed; Korean sticks push down on a lever that pushes the switch, while Japanese sticks push on the switch directly.

I guess if you wanted to replicate the feel on your current stick, buy a joystick spring to increase the resistance of the joystick movement, along with the circular (not octagonal) gate and bat top. Combined, these three products should only run you about $7ish. If you feel like your inputs improve using a stick with a circular gate and more resistance, then consider buying the KE.

Yup, anything I've found that works with 360 officially, will work with a Windows PC. Might need to download drivers, but it'll do that automatically upon first use.

I just posted that I bought the FS Pro from Madcatz for my PS3. Works amazingly well on my PC, too (no manual drivers needed). I don't know if they're still available on the cheap, but if so, it's an excellent choice. I'd imagine the one designed for use with the 360 will also work with the PC as it's that whole Microsoft thing.

Ah thanks for the response, I heard about it being too small to be played in ones lap though, so that might be a deal breaker for me.

New Qanba stick coming it seems, my japanese is a bit rusty. Complete with snack compartment for those long sets.

I took a closer look at it at EVO and it seems to be a PS4 stick, judging by the special buttons on top. Also we won't hear about this for another year according to one of the Qanba reps.

I heard Korean pushbuttons are a bit smaller than the sanwa and seimitsu 30mm standard. Maybe the base can't fit other buttons?

Korean buttons are 28mm but are possible to fit on 30mm thanks to the rims and spacers. Very close to that of American buttons. Some Korean buttons do carry ones with clicky switches and have similar traits as the American buttons.

I have a madcatz TE and I use a small sports backpack. This is actually the one I use (different colors) and it fits perfectly in it.

Sup folks,

Been playing Street Fighter on 360 since 4 came out. Been rocking a 360 controller since then.

Never used a stick but a wireless Tekken stick has been offered to me for €30.

Ive heard its not a great stick, but at that price it should be fine for me to play around with it and get the hang of playing on a stick right? Very much a below average player, get Adon to B+ in every version and thats about as high in online rankings as I get.

Good buy or no? Appreciate any info, thanks.
