Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

What do you guys use to lube arcade sticks so they don't get sticky to a direction?

My Korean stick is getting more and more sticky when I hold a direction sometimes it won't return to neutral.

I don't know whether this is actual question, or a joke anymore.

Sah-weeeeeeeeeeeeettt!!!!

Pre-ordered. I was hoping Mad Catz was gonna announce something during E3 because Mark was being a tease in the FGW thread but nothing ever came.

Didn't they show the Ultra stick for PS3/PS4 in the shell of the KI Xbox One stick? That thing was sitting on the Capcom stand at the show...

The pretty black all-Hori Silent PS4 is up at amazon.co.jp for about $185. I find this one very appealing:

Ordered a Hitbox this morning, hopefully will have it by next week. Really excited to try it out, though I'm not sure if I'll keep the right buttons stock or swap 'em with Seimitsu.

So I'm looking to get my next stick down the road here, can't decide whether I should get the Razor or get a TE2. I intend to use the stick exclusively on PC, and I read awhile back that there are Xbox One controller drivers out for PC so the TE2 should work now. I'm not 100% on that, heard there were issues with the trigger buttons, not sure if that's been fixed or not.

Anybody with experience with these sticks that can recommend one or the other? I'm gonna mod full Seimitsu when I get one.

I play all fighting games on a PS2/PS3 controller but have been interested in learning stick for when I do come across arcade machines. The games I have found in the past were 3rd Strike, MvC2, and Tekken. Knowing these cabinets and older games like Super Turbo are built with stiffer sticks and square button layouts, what is a reliable older stick I could use to practice? I've played on SFIV cabinets and my friend's Madcatz TE. They both felt fine, but I doubt they'd acquaint me with the feel of something like an MvC2 cabinet stick:

American parts.

Ew.

I grew up in arcades and I can never go back to those. You can find them, though I think you need a larger case to fit the buttons and stick.

Edit: lol, those labels are all kind of boot leg. High and low attack. Quick/Medium/Fierce? hahahaha

My first arcade stick, the Hori DoA5 Edition, arrived two days ago and the overall build quality really impressesd me, even though it's more of a low budget stick (96€), I suppose. The case is sturdy and heavy and the sanwa buttons are very responsive. Maybe a bit too loud. The deadzone of the joystick is a bit big though. I also really like the artwork.
The surface however seems quite smooth and susceptible to scratches. I'll try my best to keep the stick clean but I reckon the parts where you place your wrists are going to look ugly after some usage.

There is just one little problem I have... the TRANSITION! Even though I started playing street fighter just a couple of weeks ago, I already felt relatively confident (whatever that means) about the gameplay. But now it's like starting completely from scratch again. Hell, I mean from the scratch of the scratch. It seems to be a long way to even get to the point where I was with pad.
3D fighters (DoA and SC) in turn are much easier to get into with the stick. It even seems that they will be a bit easier to control, as there's no longer a need for shortcuts. I'm really surprised of how much sense the controls now make to me with just the 3-4 buttons.

Anyway, this piece is so much fun to use, but currently also frustrating. Today, for a moment I had the urge to bite in my stick because of how I suck at it. Regardless, I already don't want to go back to pad again. Never. Again.

seems like the MAS sticks are perfect for you.

i remember arcadeshock used to have a few in stock but it seems they're out now :(

the old HAPP/IL parts were pretty good imo (i still use them in my 15 anniversary nubytech stick for some mvc2/3s)

those labels look like killer instinct buttons...

Man,I can't decide between getting the Fighting Edge or just going cheap with a used Mad Catz TE S stick. The FE is double the cost but god damn is it sexy!

Stick with it man, it gets better. Hell, I think I probably still play SFIV Sakura better on a pad after using a stick for several years now, because that's how I learned to play that character. Just takes tiiiime.

Ok I think I'm going to go with the white 360 Fighting Edge. However I noticed Hori isn't selling the pushbuttons in white. Would it be a problem gameplay-wise to have 3 Kuro pushbuttons and three Sanwa buttons on the same stick? I might pick up some of those chibi sanwa SFIV buttons at EVO to replace the top row (and move the extra to the bottom) on the FE.

My ultimate goal is to get two of these (white and black) and put them on an Xtension cabinet, like what this guy has.

Edit: Now that I'm looking at the cab I should probably go all black. Still would like to know about the buttons though. I'd like to slap some Evil Ryu,Gouken and Akuma buttons on one of the sticks to set them apart a little.

The kuros and sanwa buttons are different sizes. Kuros have a slightly wider area. It's large enough to throw me off when I'm playing. Just fyi. Having two different size buttons in your layout might mess you up sometimes.

I want some SF4 chibi buttons, but fuck...12.50 each. I might just make my own like sixteen bit said. haha

Yeah,I think I'll just roll with the black one and order the black buttons with it. I can use the extra buttons for when I buy the other stick.

Who all from ArcadeStick-Gaf is going to be at EVO? I'd love to meet some of you guys in person. :)

My EVO pool is Friday at 8am, so I'll get bodied and have plenty of time to shop. :P

Yeah, I'm gonna try to stick with it... hehe.
Damn, I almost can't believe what you're saying. Years of practice and you think you're still better with pad? You seriously need to test this and tell me if it's true.

Good choice. :-)

That's what I did. All black looks too darn slick.

Well shit,I ended up winning (for $175) a Street Fighter x Tekken VS stick on an auction I forgot I bidded on so there goes the FE. The good news is that I save $50 and if I can pick up another they merge together. I just wish they released two different pieces of artwork that fit together, having the same two side by side looks kinda dumb. I think I'll replace the colored and grey buttons with black as well, not really feeling the grey/multi colored ones.

New prototype done (well it's done now but haven't taken a pic w/wiring yet, just imagine there's black and white wires in there), along with my old SF4 stick that has now basically become "spare parts stick":

Fuckin magnets (they work well):

The MAS stick mentioned before is probably the one to get, otherwise if you have some tools (particularly a drill) it's not too hard to put some holes into whatever box and make/mod your own. One issue might be the Happ parts, since apparently they've gone down in quality since being bought out by Suzo (haven't tried the post Suzo stuff yet myself though).

I picked up a used SE stick, and it refuses to work on my pc. Im running 8.1 64-bit, and it comes up as the street fighter fight stick, then xbox 360 controller, and says cannot start. Ive updated the drivers for the motherboard, tried usb 2 and usb 3 ports, nothing. Tired of messing with it. My other sticks are in storage, so i just wanted to get this for general pc usage since its a small stick. Anyone ran into anything like this yet?

Ah that makes sense. My ps3 hori stick has already been shipped. Maybe I should have waited, but who knows when this new model is going to be available at a german retailer.
As far as I know, the only announced FG on ps4 is GG so far. So, as long as there's no new SC, DoA or SF I'll stick to my ps3 hori... which is probably gonna be a while. That ps360 pcb costs like more than a half of the stick I ordered (96€). Probably only worth for the higher end sticks.

I wonder why there is a mechanical switch to the new hori to switch between ps3 and ps4 if it's a digital USB connection anyway.

Edit:I totally forgot MKX. Hmm...

Ah, I got my PS360+ used so it was pretty cheap.

looks expensive

This even SOUNDS expensive.

Going to ask a question that hopefully someone can help with!

I want to get a stick I can use with PC and possibly PS4/X1. Any suggestions for a strong mid-grade stick? I'd love to be able to paint it at some point, too (so ideally, the face would come off easy enough so I could spray it). I'd probably like 8 buttons, too.

StickGAF-- I have a gang of Happ items that I'd like to sell or trade.

I want to say some 30-ish buttons and a couple sticks. All old, but good Happ stuff, before the name change to SuzoHapp. 10 or 12 of the red buttons have never been used. Anyone want to trade for some new or used/good condition Sanwa stuff?

The numbers don't have to be an exact 1:1 swap. PM me if you're interested!

I must see this stick.

Edit: Also, holy shit at that balltop. I think might buy one for this case:

Is that stick yours with the fairy tale art? It's fantastic if so...

Couple questions that I've come up with in my research!

  • Is there a reason why the Mad Catz FS Pro for 360 is out of stock everywhere? Is there a revision coming? Will the PS3 version work on a PC?
  • The Hori RAP v3 looks like a solid stick, but that start button...Any thoughts on it?
  • Are Qanba sticks any good? I really only hear about Hori and Mad Catz.

The Mad Catz EVO deal is too good to pass up. Picked up the PS3 version of the FS Pro for $80. Apparently it works fine on the PC, so I'm set.

I do, however, want to redo the artwork. Is that possible?

Any price yet? I'm expecting around $60 USD

I'd say around $40-50. Hopefully less because I'm planning on getting one...

The artwork is replaceable, yeah. It gets pretty annoying when you're a ditz like me and lose screws or something.

Finger's are crossed that that doesn't happen. I've got a few fun ideas rolling around in my head.

Posted it in Evo but got no response:

.?

I'm on the fence on buying it, but I'm not sure how quality it is.

I'm not a stick expert, but I've used original TEs, Super version, and now I use the SFxT versions of those. For that price, it's a good buy. The body feels a bit more hollow and maybe a bit louder as a result, but it does the job. I like the shape and sloped front. Probably the best value for sticks with Sanwa parts at that price. If you want the Sanwa parts and a capable, but "no-frills" stick they're good.
