If Lucina and Robin confuse the mainstream game press and get them to frustratedly complain that Nintendo is running out of characters so they're pulling from poorly-received series like Fire Emblem, I can't imagine what sort of reaction characters from Metroid Prime Hunters would cause.

This week's Bombcast.

Why is GiantBomb even trying to have a serious discussion about Smash Bros., haven't they all pretty much gone on record saying they don't care about it?

I decided to check out that Bombcast episode and they started right away with a reference from a Seinfeld episode I watched earlier today. How about that.

So I think the argument for people who don't really follow Nintendo or are disillusioned with Nintendo is that the new character picks aren't "iconic" Nintendo characters to them. This dovetails in to one of the bigger Nintendo complaints, that they aren't making new IPs and characters, so every new Smash Bros. is going to have characters that they consider reaching because, in their eyes, Nintendo output has just been Mario and Zelda for the last generation.

To someone that doesn't follow Nintendo and never played Fire Emblem Awakening, announcing two characters from the game might be a "Really, you do this but don't have (insert character from youth) yet?" thing.
I don't care about IP reuse, I'm just disillusioned with Nintendo after they took a giant shit on Metroid.

Well, that and their hardware and digital issues.

Lucario is not even a clone of Mewtwo in the first place (they just share similar neutral B moves) so I don't know why he would be an alt.
Not saying he is. I wouldn't mind if Lucario was removed completely, but figured they could probably make him work with Mewtwo's moveset.

Well it was specific to new character announcements considering that's what we were talking about, but thank you for sharing?

Man, I wish every "basic" stage (Smashville, Battlefield, Final Destination, etc) had variations for each other stage.

You were talking about Nintendo in general though.

The only character announcement I really mind is Lucina; reminds me too much of the Melee clones.

To clarify, they didn't think FE:A was bad, just that it was unsuccessful, thus pulling from it doesn't make sense.

They are also of the belief that Lucina is the daughter of Marth and Robin.

So they have incorrect information like they do about many things.

For the record, I am on the 'pro snake' side.

Interesting!

Okay, so this is probably overdone at this point, but what would be the PERFECT roster to you? Let's say you have 49 slots to fill and you don't have to include anyone who has already been revealed.

I wouldn't do this thought experiment simply because it looks much like the roster might exceed 50 characters.

NIntendo's evo support tells me they will probably REALLY push for smash 4 next year (which will probably bump melee) and a lot of people really really won't be happy.

That or they'll drop it like hotcakes because this is all just promotion for smash 4 and they'll no longer be promoting it next year.

Edit: the more I think about it, the more I'm sure nintendo is only doing this to sell smash 4 and will totally ignore it next year. Who knows, they might surprise me.

They haven't played Fire Emblem, have they?
