Thinking about it, that warning image tells us to report all violators so if one doesn't report is one breaking the rules?

Rule breaking-ception. Logically yes, but who knows if one doesn't realized that someone is violating it, should he be punished just because of that?

Wasn't featured in Returns and Tropical Freeze, and Sakurai seems to be sticking to the modern incarnation of each series (whatever's most recent, barring special cases like Mega Man, for obvious reasons).
Kremlings appear in Smash Run, though. Plus it would hardly be the only stage based on an older game - we have the Coliseum based on FE1 and Gerudo Valley based on Ocarina of Time. And, of course, Balloon Fight...

A Gangplank Galleon stage could totally happen, and a K. Rool boss there would be pretty dang cool. They could even do what Super Smash Flash 2 does and include DKCR's pirate crabs in the background.

Smash Run also has Tiki Buzzes, though. If we're only getting one new DK stage, it's a safer bet to expect something referencing Returns, or maybe Tropical Freeze.

Also worth noting:

Your example of FE1 -- It was remade for the DS since Brawl

Your example of OoT -- It was remade for the 3DS since Brawl

Your example of Balloon Fight -- Balloon Fight never had a true modern update, only spinoffs for Tingle and Nintendo Land

I do not understand you at all. First you say that no one enjoys playing Ness (a categorically untrue statement, I have a friend who plays Ness almost exclusively with a childlike glee you would not believe), then you say you main Ness but don't have any fun playing as him. Why would you play a character if it's not any fun?

Saying that noone plays him was obviously hyperbole and I play him because he's my favourite character in terms of design and playstyle, but in every game except Project M (and 64 could be debatable), I don't find him as fun to play because despite having a good moveset at a conceptual level, he has far too many needless drawbacks to make him a viable character.

I also generally seem to gravitate towards the lower tier characters in any fighting game for some reason, despite hating the fact that they don't have the same amount of tools as other characters, don't know why.

I agree that if we only get one new DK stage it'll be Returns based, but why would we only get one? Both Brawl and Melee featured two new DK stages, and in this case the stages are split between two platforms. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we got three or more new DK stages between the two platforms.

Then again, I suppose we don't know if the individual games will have less stages individually because of the split development, so...

Albeit a tad anticlimactic for Mr. Game & Watch

Actually, he should be the opposite and appear in photorealistic detail, all porous and hairy and claylike, like The Order
>.>

That was one of the stages on that 'fake' 3ds stage list. Would be really cool if they could pull it off, but honestly, I think it would make the game too hard to play. Especially with items on.
Oh, right. Items :/

Maybe it can work like the below? V

I would love nothing more than a DKCR sunset stage. Each character could be shadowed with one part highlighted to differentiate between colors (Mario's hat, DK's tie, Samus' visor and arm cannon, etc) and items and the like could either just be shadowed entirely or could be normal but with solid colors to fit the stage aesthetic.

Speaking of, we haven't seen a single Donkey Kong stage yet. I wonder when we will? It's not the only franchise conspicuously lacking in a stage thusfar - Star Fox also comes to mind and Kirby only has the Halberd.

Unacceptable. I just love Bowser Jr. so much, I'll even break my hate of characters being alts of other characters just to have him.
DLC seems more likely than an alt. Alts would have to be around the same size as the original character right? Making him his own character might be better.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope we get multiple DK stages, including ones referencing the original DKC trilogy. In a perfect world, we'd get a stage that travels around Crocodile Isle from DKC2, complete with modern Wise-made remixes of every song from DKC2. :-D

But conservatively, I'm just expecting a stage based on Returns. Maybe a jungle like the one in the prerendered cutscene in the first SSB4 trailer.

I'm certain we'll get a DK Returns stage if only because the totem tiki things are seen in the jungle during the original Smash 4 trailer. But Donkey Kong is getting at least 2 new stages for sure. Just trust me, I know how these things work.

It was just setup so you'd resist and I could post this

I'm hoping your right! I'm really curious to see what new stage DK has. Kirby too, even though I'm positive it'll be from Return to Dreamland.

So is Nintendo going to show something new at Comic Con?

Sakurai will mention it if it's smashbros related. Nintendo typically doesn't announce anything at comiccon, right? More like show off existing, announced stuff. NYCC last year had ALBW demo by Aonuma, though, so who knows.

I can't wait for another jungle stage with nine MIDI rearrangements of DK Island Swing. Perhaps it can even auto-scroll!
Sakurai's fan service for the DK series in Smash has felt half-hearted so far. More like a checklist than a lovingly-curated selection of the series' best bits.

Will the 3DS version use friend codes or will this be the first online game that uses NNIDs?

To clarify: First on 3DS.

Pretty sure in the Smash Direct Sakurai specified that it would use NNID on 3DS. I feel like he said that specifically, since it was abnormal.

Edit: He doesn't specifically say that, but it's heavily implied here.

He loves DK like he loves Metroid.

I'd love a DK stage with the fighters as silhouettes at certain points, like in the Retro games.

To be fair, though, that might not have been solely Sakurai's decision. It seems like Nintendo is trying to mostly avoid DK's history at Rare.

Not that there are any patterns cause there really aren't, but DK got 2 new stages in Melee and 2 new stages in Brawl. With DK coming back to glory I can easily see 2 new stages plus Jungle Japes. Actually let me restate that, 4 new stages, 2 for the Wii U and 2 for the 3DS. Just trust me, I know how these things work.

I wonder if sakurai will use the find mii puzzles as some sort of basis for inspiration on what's popular or something.

We already have arena ferox, wuhu island

If it's important enough for a puzzle, it's important enough for smash!

Wait, does FD mode mean that even old stages will get the same treatment?

It seems obvious now that I think about it, I had just never really put that together until now.

I see. I guess one of two stages would have King Rool as stage hazard. Hmm. Plausible.

Eh, the second DK stage in Brawl was a stage based on the arcade game. Still DK in name, but I think it was justified more by the novelty of what it represented.

I'm just a little less optimistic about multiple DK stages per version, given the colossal workload all of this stuff is adding up to be. But hopefully they'll go all-out.
