Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Eh, the second DK stage in Brawl was a stage based on the arcade game. Still DK in name, but I think it was justified more by the novelty of what it represented.

I'm just a little less optimistic about multiple DK stages per version, given the colossal workload all of this stuff is adding up to be. But hopefully they'll go all-out.

75M was in the NES game, too.

I had to Google this, which led me to the Dune wiki:

"A stillsuit is a full body suit worn in the open desert of the planet Arrakis that was designed to preserve the body's moisture. It consisted of various layers that would firstly absorb the body's moisture through sweating and urination, and then filter the impurities so that drinkable water would be circulated to catchpockets. The individual could then drink the reclaimed water from a tube attached to the neck."

Now I feel like a bigger nerd than I already am. THANKS A LOT.

The books are worth your time

Oh, and to add on to that, even in the worst desert discovered in the universe in the seris at that time (haven't finished series), you only lose a thimbleful of water a day

Now you can feel more like a nerd than before

I have to say, even without my unyielding love for Lucina (
NOTHING WAIFU-ISH, DON'T HURT ME
), I'm fine with her being a clone, even one barely different from Marth, because, like, it's her thing -- she's a next-gen Marth masquerading as the Hero King of Old.

When it's a clone like that -- based on a character from the same series, and justified by lore -- I can accept it more easily. Clones only feel weird when a major character from one series inherits what is very obviously the move-set for a character from another series. Like Ganondorf getting Captain Falcon's moves. (Although to be be fair, a Warlock Punch in the middle of a four-player fight feels BADASS. Like a canon going off in a linen closet.)

Well, technically she uses Chrom's fighting techniqes, so she should be a Chrom cl...

oh wait.

I think I'd be happy with something from DK94 and Country on the 3DS with Returns/tropical and Country 2 on the Wii U.

I feel like Metroid gets way more "respect" in Smash than Donkey Kong.

I have a feeling that a lot of the time it comes down to "How Much Has Sakurai Played this Game?"

I don't really hear much talk about this game these days. Do new 3DS owners just ignore it. :(
Face Raiders is awesome. Seeing my face in various perverted expressions ooze out of the fabric of space-time so erotically, swarming me from all sides, and all I have to defend myself is an endless stream of tennis balls. So surreal.

The irony about my excitement for Lucina is I don't even like playing as Marth, lol.

I think I'll main Robin and train Lucina as my Amiibo sidekick.

Oh man I'd love a stage from DK94. I feel arcade DK doesn't have much content in Smash, and 75m is lame. :V
I don't remember DK94 being all that exciting for its setting, though. It was mainly special because of all the crazy moves Mario had at his disposal. It was like his SM64 move-set before SM64 was even a thing.

Yeah, I’m fine with clones that can actually be justified.

Pichu - the baby pre-evolution of Pikachu
Falco - Fox’s best friend and fellow pilot
Young/Toon Link - a child version of Link
Roy - a fellow Fire Emblem swordsman
Dr. Mario - Mario… as a doctor
Lucas (not really a clone) - a fellow psychic boy from the Mother series
Lucina - a descendent of Marth who passes herself off as him

Captain Falcon is a race car driver with a tokusatsu-inspired move set, and Ganondorf is the magic-wielding Great King of Evil. It just doesn’t make any sense.

I am still not sure which amiibo will be my main partner. Robin looks promising as hell though, same goes for Palutena.

Yeah, if I recall correctly, Ganondorf even cloned Falcon's idle animation (the twitchy hand-clenching, etc). In Melee, at least. They barely hid his origins, despite the huge gulf between the Zelda series and F-Zero.

I think you could make an exciting stage out of it. NSMBU isn't exactly the most exciting with its setting either, but the stage in Smash looks really good. Granted, the stage constantly changes lol.

I mostly want it for the sweet music anyway. :P

Ultimate scenario that still seems possible enough for my mind to let itself imagine it:

- Everyone returns from Brawl (39 characters)
- Mewtwo returns from Melee (40 characters)
- Add the 11 newcomers so far (51 characters)
- Add Shulk and a Rhythm Heaven newcomer (53 characters)
- Add Dixie and Takamaru from that Dojo rumor (55 characters)

I'd like dat.

You're supposed to say fucking Donkey Kong.

Also, how do you determine respect?

Maybe.

Well, there's credence to it. When talking about why he added Robin, Sakurai brought up the fact that saw in Robin the potential to showcase a lot about what makes FE unique. He could only really come up with that moveset and know the potential by having an intimate relationship with the series.

Sakurai is a huge fan of FE. Instead of having Iwata do the "iwata asks" interviews with the FE team for Shadow Dragon, Sakurai himself volunteered to do it and moderated the entire discussion.

It's not that surprising, really. Think about it, if you were making a fighting game with a bunch of series in it, including series that you didn't know very well, which characters would be more fleshed out? Most likely the ones you actually knew all the details about. You'd miss details on the one you were less versed in.

I'll probably use Falcon of he isn't crap tier again. Either him or Jiggly.

only reason im thinking Robin or Palutena is because I think having a smart A.I with multiple long reach attacks and projectiles will be deadly or too good. :P

Depending how good the A.I can get, I honestly cant picture jiggs being a good/scary amiibo.

8 Pokemon reps. It's a dream come true.

- Snake and we have a deal or give that moveset to a Advance Wars character.

What's that Dojo rumor?

Dixie > Ridley? :o

Edit: just finished ALBW. Hilda would be cool.

Peach is my choice, if they stagger the releases and what has been shown are the first set.
Then lets imagine 4 sets and 14 in each + mii?

Should be simple enough....
I'm just concerned it won't be easy to find them. That they might be under-stocked or only the popular characters will be given decent supply.

HERE

It reads:

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Character Select
[MARI][LUIG][PEAC][ROSA][BOWS][WARI][YOSH][DONK][DIDD][DIXI][SAMU][ZERO]
[PIKA][JIGG][CHAR][LUCA][GREN][KIRB][META][KING][FOX ][FALC][WOLF][NESS][LUCA]
[LINK][TLIN][ZELD][SHEI][GANO][SHUL][PIT ][PALU][TAKA][MART][IKE ][LUCI][ROBI]
[VILL][LITT][CAPT][OLIM][MARS][ICE ][WII ][ROB ][GAME][SONI][MEGA][PAC ]

That’s your select screen for the Wii U version. I have no idea how they line it up on the 3DS counterpart. Mii Fighers and Random slots are placed on the top banner near the settings and back buttons. Dark Pit, Doctor Mario, Wii Fit Trainer (Male), and Robin (Female) are the only alternate costumes that change voice overs/sound effects. Other alternate costumes are there but only in aesthetics.

Lucina and Toon Link are the only true clones in the game. Lucas and Dixie are semi-clones. Fox and Wolf are quasi-clones. Ganon I’m not 100% sure on because I’ve been told he is both a playable character and a boss. Never got clarification. Mewtwo, Ridley, K. Rool are all in the game, but as playable bosses rather than fighters. Bosses can only be played on specific stages (Ruined Laboratory, Pyrosphere, and Gangplank Galleon respectively) and can only be played by using the Wii U Gamepad.

Only two newcomer videos remain. Shulk and Takamaru will be revealed in one. Dixie and Marshal in the other. Ganondorf and Meta Knight are revealed in the Shulk trailer, while Lucas and Ice Climbers are revealed in the Dixie trailer. No other veterans will show in the newcomer trailers to come, although Waddle Dee (with blue bandana) is given a weird moment in the former trailer, despite not being a playable character.

That’s all.
P.S. You’re not getting the full roster reveal in the next Coro Coro issue. Just the starting one.

I'm reasonably sure the 3DS version of the demo is going to be newer than the E3 version, at least.

I don't see why. I know people are saying that they've spotted differences in the more recent demo, but it's unusual for them to make any changes to a demo version once they have it out. That would take some time away from the development of the game itself, and no one wants to do that when they're this close to release.

As far as 3DS vs Wii U, I will probably end up playing the 3DS version more than the Wii U version. 3DS version I can play anywhere, even when I'm not at someone's house. It'll be what I play on my lunch and breaks at work, or when I'm out somewhere and have a few minutes idle. When I'm at home, I've usually got a lot of other things to do, so I'll get a couple hours of Smash in at most on the Wii U, but then I can probably play a round or two of Smash Run before bed.

And have I said how genius I think Smash Run is? The Special Brawl was a really cool idea, but it took a bit to set up, and everyone had to agree on what mods to use, and frankly, we ended up just never playing it. Coin Mode got played more. The beauty of Smash Run is that it ends up with an entirely randomized Special Smash without having to deal with any kind of decision making or argument over what options are chosen, so it'll get played so much more.

Yeah, probably should go with projectiles. Unless it can somehow do perfect rests. Or a Falcon that just jumps around and punches which would be hilarious.

that last sentence really makes it unbelievable. A Q&A guy or a journalist might leak the roster but he sure as hell won't know about any coro coro business.

I'm not saying I believe it, although I don't think that bit invalidates it. It's just another rumor on the Internet. Probably false, but maybe there's something to it, so I share. :-)
