Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

The lack of an Advance Wars representative is kinda baffling.

F-Zero = 7 games and 1 character
Kid Icarus = 3 games and 2 characters

Gotta love good 'ol Sakurai and his favoritism for certain franchises.

You fools

Haha, sorry... can't please everyone, I guess! Wario is one of my top three least favorite characters ever, along with Waluigi and Tingle. I just think they're all obnoxious and I don't get their appeal.

BUT! I'm not the kind of guy to actively hope any character gets cut from Smash despite how I feel about them, because I want fans of as many characters as possible to be happy. So I'm not hoping for him to be cut from Smash 4, and I'll be perfectly content when he's inevitably revealed.

I will admit I couldn't do anything but chuckle at all the Waluigi trolling by Sakurai, though. :P

And if it helps any, Kid Icarus: Uprising is maybe my favorite 3DS game ever, and it's definitely up there in my favorites of all time list too!
I was just teasing. :-) I understand Wario isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's great you share the good attitude of hoping everyone comes back, though. That's my stance -- every character is near and dear to someone, somewhere, so I always hope that as many characters come back as possible. :-)

Yea it would be pretty cool to get Advance War playable rep, or at least a better AT

Smooth Moves as a single player wario ware was pretty bad. Smooth Moves as a party game however, was fucking incredible.

I would disagree, but maybe I was just spoiled by the awesome multiplayer in Mega Party Games.

The lack of simultaneous multiplayer in Smooth Moves was a huge bummer to me.

Sorry. My attempt at customer satire failed.
Oh, I see -- you were poking fun at incidents like where a mom gets Professor Layton Miracle Mask on 3DS for her kid, and then writes a 1-star review on Amazon complaining she had to shave off the cartridge nub to get it into the DS. (I swear, that's a real story.)

I'm hoping that one of the reasons why they haven't shown off Wario yet is because they've completely redone his moveset to make it more inline with the Wario Land games.

My only hope is that Wario doesn't get changed too much. I hated him in Project M.
My main hope for Wario is that he still has his motorcycle move. I can't imagine them removing it when a lot of thought and design work clearly went into it.

My current group of friends are a bunch of casuals/non-gamers, so I can already picture the hysterics that will result when I say, "Hey, you playing Wario -- push Forward B..."

Well there isn't really much character ideas to draw from F-Zero. A character from that series would have to be entirely rebuilt for Smash just like Captain Falcon. Samurai Goroh was probably the next best bet, but since Brawl he has been kept as an Assist Trophy.

Black Shadow could've worked as a Falcon clone had Ganondorf not already filled that role. Sakurai could still make an original moveset for him though if he wanted to. Aside from those two, the only other F-Zero character I can think of working is Pico although I have no idea how he'd fight.

Yeah, it was jarring for me. So many stuff I learned about Brawl Wario, gone. The bike was his most fun move. :( I have way too much fun with the tires.

The one thing I like lol.

Got some hands-on time with the Wii U and 3DS version of the game today. Willing to answer any questions you all may have. Played a couple of four-player matches (won them all with Marth, fyi) and only used a Gamecube controller.

Where'd you do that at?
Any notable Marth changes?

Did you manage to rip the soundtrack?
(Throwback reference to Tropical Freeze release)

Meeting with Nintendo of America. Marth felt more like his Melee version - good sense of speed. Nothing too radically different to him otherwise. Tip of the sword is the sweet-spot for damage. They did remove Marth's white alternative outfit :(

Hahaha....that will have to wait until I get a review copy!

Do you normally play Marth, and when you were playing Marth in SSB4, did you think to yourself, "Man, this is good but would be so much better if he was a she and wearing amazing boots"
Marth was my primary character in Melee and Brawl.

Curse you, lol

Ooh! So this was likely a more recent version than the E3/BestBuy demo? :D
If so...

* Was Zero Suit Samus nerfed compared to what we saw at the tournament?
* Was Zelda any good?
* Were there any characters you were able to play not previously playable in the other demos?
* Did you see any new items/ATs?
:3

Hmm...were there any characters who weren't playable at E3?

Edit: Never mind answered :(

Was the lag after landing from an aerial attack particularly bad? Especially for Marth?

Ah, OK. See, Marth never really resonated with me. But now she's been announced:

And all of the sudden Marth's move-set is relevant to my interests, lol

Think it was based on the E3 demo build. No one played as Zero Suit or Zelda. No new playable characters compared to previous demos. Not sure what items/AT have been seen by people, but I did get slammed by a Bullet Bill item.

Any stage impressions?
Played the Nintendogs stage on the 3DS. Was pretty cool when objects started to appear on the stage. Played Battlefield on Wii U. Pretty standard stage when it comes to Smash.

Not that I can say. Everything felt fast and responsive. I was still readjusting to the GCN controller, so I wasn't playing as clean as I normally would have.

What did you think of the 3DS controls, especially the circle pad for moving.

For some reason, I want Mighty Gazelle. He's got a unique enough silhouette and gimmick, and could easily be given a creative moveset. He's been around for long enough as well, since he first appeared in the N64 game.

This tuesday I ended up playing a 4 player all-marth match because everyone was suddenly curious about his moveset in preparation for Lucina XD

Robin and Lucina made my desire to play smash NOW increase 20-fold :P

Ah, I'm not surprised at Zelda not getting any love but the lack of ZSS is surprising XD
Thankies! :D

Do characters still jump 8 stories high?

General impressions and thoughts on how the 3DS circle pad held up with movement/tilts/smash attacks? (Particularly that last one)

I remember when the first SSB came out, none of my friends knew the Metroid franchise. We had no idea who Samus was and we just assumed she was a badass guy in a space suit. I still remember how shocked we all were when we saw that image that shows that Samus is a girl after beating classic mode for the first time haha.

I also had no idea who Ness was when we played Smash. I remember I looked information about the game and thought "this looks terrible!". I was a little kid!

Ah, Smash 64 times were so awesome. I remember I enjoyed using Jigglypuff because it was fun humilliating people by beating them with her.

Yeah, I have a feeling that Lucina is going to be super-popular online

She's got that "it" factor, y'know?

I had absolutely no issue with the 3DS circle pad. I was pulling off Marth's B-combo and counter with ease. It felt a lot like Melee, actually. It did take a little time to familiarize myself with the controls but it clicked incredibly fast.

How did Marth feel? Similar to Brawl?
I'd say more similar to Melee, but a good in between of Melee and Brawl. Fast, requires precision strikes and can get smacked around.

Considering how Kirby Fighters felt pretty natural on the 3DS after some practice, I'm inclined to be a lot more hopeful about playing Smash on the 3DS

Was it the E3 build? There's only 4 costumes/character in that build, which would explain the absense of Marth's fabulous white outfit.

Was it your first time playing as Marth in Smash 4? If not, did he feel different than the first time around (at E3 or Best Buy)

First time with him in SB4. He will definitely be my main once the game releases. In my first match on 3DS against 3 others players, I managed to win with 7 kills and 1 death.

Highly likely it was the E3 build. I was sad when I didn't see the white costume. Had to settle for traditional blue or sexy black.

Can Marth short hop double fair? If it's the same as the E3 build, he shouldn't be able to.
I couldn't. Tried it and assumed my skills were just off.
