What should Microsoft apologise for? Releasing a console, and then being torn to shreds about everything they tried to do, so they fix it, and when they do still getting torn to shreds about not sticking to their original vision. I seriously hate the internet and this "Mind Hive" that seems to happen.
Seriously, I'm not even kidding. I will admit that the DRM was a tad harsh, but I understood why it existed, and I actually liked the reason it existed. Should it have been connect to the internet after a week of no connection rather then after 24 hours of non-connectivity? Yes. Should it have been gotten rid of completely? No. Why do I think that? Because that DRM had some awesome features that would of been awesome, such as playing two games at once, while waiting for a match in Titanfall I could play a little Dead Rising 3. It allowed me to share my entire game collection with 10 of my friends (don't even have that many that I'd share with). How many times have I wanted to play a game with a friend and they not have it, this would of solved that problem (same in reverse).
I can understand getting rid of the Kinect, while I use it daily, I know some people despise it for some reason or another, and not enough games were made to convince me that it was needed. I like having it for games such as NFS: Rivals or Forza Horizon 2 where I can tell my GPS/Personal Assistant to set a destination for somewhere without having to stop driving and find it on a map. But it wasn't really an integral part of any must-have games that made it a must-have device. Sure Kinect Sports Rivals was an awesome game, but I doubt it made it on to many peoples 'must-have games' list. This is one of those things where I wish Microsoft had stuck to its guns, cause I feel that in a couple years, some innovative stuff would of happened with the Kinect, now they won't.
I don't think Microsoft is breaking promises here because the internet/consumers clearly shouted out about their distaste for both the DRM and Kinect and so Microsoft listened to the consumers. The instant backlash forced Microsoft to reconsider the DRM stuff, and if Microsoft had another year after the reveal to release the Xbox One, they would of taken the idea back to the drawing board and made one that was more agreeable to the millions of gamers who play in a submarine, but since they didn't have that much time, they scrapped it all instead and are most likely working on adding some of that stuff back right now, I actually remember someone at Microsoft saying something along the lines of this.
If Microsoft had to apologize to anyone, it would be the fans who actually wanted the features DRM allowed the Xbox to do, those who use the Kinect daily. They don't owe any apology to the people who lashed out at Microsoft about all this, because Microsoft listened to them and did what they wanted, those people didn't care about those features, so Microsoft owes them no apology.
Jim is one of those people who bashed Microsoft non-stop because of this stuff, which means he didn't care about any of these features, and yet he demands an apology from Microsoft for taking this things out? Fuck that guy, seriously.
EDIT: Also Phil Spencer already admitted that some of the Xbox One stuff was a mistake:
