Giant Bomb #8 | It's a Hit!

Speaking of hours spent on games, it's funny to think that it wasn't long ago that Brad and others would mention how they're not kids any more and can't afford to spend 40+ hours on one game. Off the top of my head I'm sure they mentioned this in relation to Dark Souls (before any of them really got into it) and more recently Ni No Kuni. Turns out they could find the time; the real reason was probably not having a game they wanted to spend 40+ hours on.

I feel like that was part of that statement. As a kid you have all the time in world but also no money so you'll spend all the time on the game you have regardless of how much you enjoy it. Spending 40+ hours on a game you don't enjoy that much isn't something you'll do if you have limited time but also the money to buy something else.

I mean I finished Bomberman Hero on the N64 even though I never really liked it. Cause I got it. So what else would I do but finish it? Now I stopped playing Watch Dogs after 6 hours cause the game is just boring and bad and I have something better to do.

When I was a kid, I finished Superman 64.

In my defense I couldn't afford a lot of games back then, and my parents bought Superman 64 for me because I liked Superman...

Good times.

Nah, I'm good. Been there done that.

I don't want to save my friends.

Finished last week's podcast. Really enjoyed Samantha. One thing about her that was unique is that she was obviously a fan of the site. Most guests come on as friends or developers who just see the bombcast as a chance to hang out with friends or talk about what they were doing. Samantha was obviously excited to be there talking with everyone and it really showed. Her enthusiasm, positive outlook, and excitement to talk about what she was playing was a great change of pace. Even though she is a very accomplished developer, it was really nice having someone who came on the show with their fan hat on. So more Samantha damnit!

I played some modern game recently where escape closes the program with no confirmation. That takes the cake.

Was it Early Access? Nuclear Throne used to do that, which makes sense - if it's not done, then it's more prone to breaking and being a nightmare to close otherwise, possibly.

I just watched the episode of Voyage of the Mimi that Vinny talked about like a year ago. Sure enough, people stripping down to share body heat. Not kids, mind you.

Much like Jeff's GB wiki page has a list of things he hates, I think Dan's needs a list of things he didn't know or hadn't tried before joining Giant Bomb.

Dan not knowing things is a great asset to the site. I love how Drew was silent for a bit when he started the airlock questions like he couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Yeah, Giant Bomb could definitely use a "guy who doesn't know anything" seat to spur on explanations.

Too bad they all fill that seat :P

Dan on Drew: "I've known you for about three weeks...I know that you're big on planes and boats and stuff"
Dan on Jeff "Is that one of your things too? Is that like a Yoshi thing?"

The way Dan sums up the personalities in the office is absolutely hilarious. He cuts down months of conversations and insights into one line summations.

I hope they start using Jason as a personality a bit more (if he wants to do that). There has been a few opportunities for him to do stuff in recent weeks, but they seem to dance around him taking part. Drew could easily man the control room, when Jason interacts with someone else.

It is kinda weird for GB to limit staff to one sole job job without giving them another outlet to speak on the site

I will bite my tongue until the Lethal League or Persona 4 Arena Ultimax QL, and if he is not in that then I will complain on the Internet!

Japanese indie games usually still have ESC kick you out to desktop instantly. Pretty sure that originated as the "oh shit, boss is coming" button.

Part of his job descripton was to be in front of camera, so I bet they'll get there. Right now they seem to need who's more or less just behind camera. They've been there for three weeks, there's plenty of time.

Drew really did a good job. I hope he is in more QLs in the future, really good and fun commentary. Still sad we never got an X-Rebirth QL with him

They already missed having him on for the Evo talk, he was the only one who payed attention.

Yeah. But I'll live :)

Anyways, Ghostship Aftermath looks like such a piece of shit. At least the QL was pretty great.

"Also, this is not how people read."

I think he's still learning the ropes of the control room. We've seen a couple times where Drew had to step out and help him with something on the live shows. Once he's up to speed they will probably allow him to be more of a personality. I think for the moment though they want to have him focus on what he was hired for and get comfortable with that before they have him branch out.
