WiiU Starfox stage revealed for Super Smash Bros. 4

I preferred Sector Z to Corneria; if you're gonna make a massive ship stage, make it really massive.

There's a Starfox U?

Yes? Miyamoto announced it during E3.

Someone's mind just got blown :lol

Assault was mediocre. There were ten missions in the game, and six were on foot. That's over half!

#cutfalco

Thank you. The game was beautiful graphically and aurally, but loading it up with shitty on-foot missions kills its value.

So a Star Fox game that takes place mostly on foot gets yet another stage where you ride on the Great Fox? We'll never get a Star Fox stage that takes place on the ground will we?

Please be the size of Sector Z.

PLEASE.

Fighting on the Melee/Brawl versions of the stage just doesn't feel right.

It feels too small compared to the characters. Its a spaceship that harbors OTHER SPACESHIPS. It needs to be massive in scale and size to feel truly epic.

Why would you want this.

Think of all the cool planets in the Star Fox series. You can't tell me that they wouldn't make a good stage. Imagine a stage taking place beneath the waves of Aquas, or one in the desert of Titania.

EDIT: Not sure why I typed they instead of good.

Why on earth would this be a thing? The series is a space flying game, the ground missions are usually considered the worst part of the series.

It's like wanting an F-Zero stage that isn't on a racetrack.

My problem with Assault was how in the Arwing missions shot rate was messed up. In the N64 game press and hold for a bit fires multiple shots so tapping can do a rapid fire without having to Master Higgins skill but in assalut you get a single shot then about 5 charge levels or something. It just ended up feeling wrong.

The foot missions though kind of played like a janky version of Jet Force Gemini.

Fox better have an Assault alt costume.
I demand the Command design of Plastic Fox. No fur filters for me.

But any ol' series can have a desert or water level. Star Fox lets us have battles on massive space crafts in space, which no other series except maybe Metroid could offer and that would be a strange Metroid stage considering only a tiny bit of any game takes place in open space.

My problem with the current Star Fox stages is that they all feel too same-y. I looked at the pic and thought it was a retro stage until I read the caption and saw that it was based on Assault. Other series have stage diversity, why not Star Fox?

As for your F-Zero comparison, yes I'd love to see a stage that wasn't based on a "tradional" track. Why not have something like the canyon race against Samurai Goroh from GX as a stage, or a stage that was a track from the SNES version done with sprites?

It's new, Smash 64 had this one,

And this is Melee's,

In hoping it is almost identical to the melee one, otherwise hopefully that one will make it in. It's my favourite map by far.

Heck no, this is Assault, so it's 10 times better!

Fox better have an Assault alt costume.

Assault is the best StarFox.

You aren't alone. Assault was my favorite starfox also, oh man the memories. Seeing that pic has me wanting to go back and play it damit.

What's wrong with saying Assault is the best? Not like it has much competition.

I love the Star Fox series but his opinion is being overblown. Love the new stage and pic btw. Gorgeous shot.

The majority of star fox fans (on gaf at least) are vehemently opposed to any notion of fox getting out of his ship at any point.

I fear that all the people in the Smash thread who said it would be like the Venom stage are right. I hope Sakurai at least clarifies soon so I'm not in a state of brokenhearted limbo. :P

No-friggin-way is it gonna be akin to Venom. Sakurai has to know that the vertical Great Fox is a beloved stage in the Smash series, if they include one Star Fox level in this game it's going to be that.

Ouch but, yes. I loved Command with its 20 or so endings and decent online multiplayer for the time.

Hey, I really enjoyed Star Fox Command too! It was a bit repetitive with some of the mission types (shoot the missile and fly into the mother ship especially), but the stylus flying controls worked surprisingly well, the Advance Wars style battle maps were a cool idea, and the branching story was pretty cool.

SF64 is still my absolute favorite, although, I really liked the SNES game even though I sucked at it, Adventure, and Assualt.

I am completely open to them taking Star Fox other places besides the on-rail route. Assualt is flawed, but the concept definitely isn't.

I'll be the first one to admit, it was very repetitive but I didn't mind it, stylus planning stages and flight seemed natural to me.

Assault would have been a pretty good budget-priced title if they had cut the on-foot missions. The Arwing stuff is really good and rivals SF64. The MP is obviously better too. And the designs are rather nice.

But even with the on-foot missions it's still better than the steaming heaps of garbage that were Adventures and Command. Good lord, the hell were they thinking.

I enjoyed command aswell, however not picking up the game in 2 years will leave you in trouble, the difficulty from level 1 goes up more the more endings and campaigns you unlock so when I came back to it I was essentially starting off in hard mode and lost interest

Do any competitive players know the reason behind Corneria being banned in Melee? Is it because of the Arwings or because you can camp the section in the right half of the stage? Just curious what would permit the new Great Fox to be tourney legal if it's a new stage.

I really liked the turn-based strategy elements. I thought that was a unique twist to the franchise that still fit. The controls worked too. The missions were repetitive though, and I didn't like that you could clear them by just killing 2 enemies.

They seem to have reduced the thruster flare on the back. I don't see why that'd be done if it were a Venom-style stage.

The Arwings shoot lasers. Those can't be turned off, as far as I know. Are there any stages that have environmental damage that aren't banned?

C'mon now. C'mon.

I like Assault for what it was (the soundtrack was amazing) but the voices and sound effects felt like they lacked punch/impact, and thats just not right in a Star Fox game.

I love the look of the stage, but I'm disappointed to be fighting on top of the Great Fox again. I think Lylat Cruise is the perfect format for a Star Fox stage.

What if they made a spiritual successor to big blue where every platform is assault-styled ships, every ship, from StarFox Command?

Q-Games must really love that mission type, I remember something like that popped up a few times in X-Scape too
