US/CAN Club Nintendo Thread: New and improved. Read the OP.

You have to go into Wii Mode. I think you can view Wii games on the Gamepad but I'm not sure the buttons are usable for the actual game (Just acts like a TV?)

I think you're right. You'll need a Wiimote and I guess a Classic Controller to play

According to this FAQ page, you do need to have your Wii U linked.

Has anyone here gotten a code without having their Wii U yet? I don't want to waste a chance at a free game.

They mentioned to linked the CN account to WiiU for those people who are planning to buy a digital copy. Since you will get a physical copy, you don't necessarily needed to do that.

I sent Zing the Animal Crossing to a family member of his whom is visiting in a few weeks..so all is good! Stupid Club Nintendo not allowing people to ship to Canada is ridiculouz

Finally picked my Platinum reward. I went with Game & Wario (don't have a 3DS), only because that gets me $5 back through the DDP and I can pick up NES Remix for $10.

I'm going to bring my Wii U over to a buddy of mine's place (he can't get enough Wii U goodness, and Smash isn't even out yet), so we'll try out G&W there.

Can anyone please tell me:

The Paper Mario that's being offered on Club Nintendo right now is listed as being for Wii and Wii U. So if I got it for the Wii U, is that on the eShop and playable on the gamepad? I hope so but don't want to waste that many coins to find out.... It's the only PM I've never played
It's misleading. Anything they list as for both Wii and Wii U is actually just a Wii virtual console game.

A shame because I would totally give a Wii U native version a try.

Thanks. :)

(I'm still gonna need to pick up a Wii U before October though I guess. :/)

If you are talking about the Mario Kart 8 free game code, then you need a Wii U before September 30. You have to register MK8 on Club Nintendo before July 31, claim your free game code before August 31, and use said code on your Wii U before September 30 (you don't have to actually download the game at that time, just inputting the code on the eShop means the game is yours, you can cancel the download and restart whenever you feel like it.)

Have you not played it? It's such a good game. I know Wii mode is a bit of a hassle but it really is worth playing and at this point I am really skeptical that we'll get N64 VC natively on Wii U.

My concern is that Wii VC will not be available on Nintendo's next system. They have already stated future systems will be using the Wii U programming API. Unless they have a complete change of management style and actually update all the old Wii VC, it will be rendered useless.

Oh, yeah, good point. I hadn't thought of that. I hope their future VC support is more like their Wii VC and less like the Wii U VC which has been all around pretty disappointing in comparison.

When does Nintendo update items in the rewards section and I don't mean the games - would love to get a game case for my 3ds games.

Whenever they find some extra stuff in the basement to put on there. Based on the last few updates I suspect the basement is either empty or got flooded.

Between the disappointing platinum reward and the almost complete lack of physical items in the catalog, I expect there will be much lower participation for the rest of this year.

I as well think we're seeing the last ride of physical rewards. I vaguely remember reading or hearing about NoA cutting cost. The lack of appealing physical rewards must have to do with that. I'm willing to bet as membership got bigger Noa just didn't have the stock to keep up with demand. I think on their end NoA is trying to reach the same level of value of physical rewards but with something else, i.e. digital games. It would cost them less but still have the same attraction supposedly. Depending on the appeal, it's hit and miss. Not everyone's going to like the monthly selection.

However I would have loved to see other games like Doc Louis' Punch-Out, Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition, any of the ambassador titles, etc. Basically exclusives games that you can't get by normal means. Making these available for both Gold and Platinum members would have been awesome.

After taking sometime to reflect, from what I'm now considering a knee jerk reaction, the platinum game selection this year wasn't bad. We got Game and Wario, which isn't for everyone, we got Earth Bound, which a lot of people thought we would never get in Club Nintendo, SNES Remix, and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, which I wasn't expecting at all. If you already had those then you could have sold you Platinum reward for some easy cash.

Gold rewards were atrocious in my opinion however. I still think Noa dropped the ball with those. At the very least they could have let a $20 eshop redeemable code be a reward. I don't see most of the selection of games being appealing. Maybe it's a generational thing or my shortsightedness.

There could very well be less activity in CN after this. It's not surprising. People are disappointed and I get that.

Straight E-Shop credit would be fine with me. I get $5 Amazon credit every month or so for using Bing as my search engine. If I could get $5 eshop credit for X points and ~$30 for getting platinum that would be fine with me.

First TWO to quote gets a free club nintendo code. No idea what game it's from or if it's been used. When you get the code; please post to say the name of the game it was from [if it worked]. I now have over 8,000 club nintendo points and am tired of creating new accounts.

Quote :)

The code worked, and was for New Super Luigi U. Thank you!

It worked and it was a register code for Disney Magical World. Thanks!

The trouble with just giving us rewards we can more easily buy is it's only worthwhile to do the work of filling out all the surveys for people that can't at least get a minimum wage job, which means basically Club Nintendo will only be appealing to children and then Club Nintendo becomes more of an exploitation of child labour, lol.

I exited out of the tab that had the download code for Donkey Kong Country Returns and haven't received a confirmation e-mail (~20 minutes later). Is there any way I can find that code? :/

I think he hits the nail on the head. If you had enough points to be Platinum/Gold then you probably own most, if not all, of the free games.

I dunno. I hit platinum really quickly this year and still only had two of the platinum/gold games.

Seems like Nintendo would easily have the kind of data based on games registered to tell them what games were and weren't commonly registered to CN members who hit Platinum or Gold and make their selections based on that.

I hit Platinum really easy for the 2014 year and still have a lot of extra codes for the 2015 CN year. I owned like 1 of the games (Donkey Kong 3DS).

I have so many surveys on my to-do list that I don't even worry about hitting platinum this year. I'm already gold. I also have games to register for the 2015-2016 Club Nintendo year.

I expect physical rewards to never return again... unless it's an Amiibo.

So I selected DKCR3D as my gift... only to realize I don't have enough space on my 3DS to hold it.

The game that I have that takes up the most space is the digital version of Animal Crossing. This leads to my question: if I were to delete Animal Crossing, would it delete my town as well? I tried to back up the save and it tells me I can't. I haven't played Animal Crossing in a long time so deleting the game itself isn't a big deal. However, I'd like to keep my town just in case I do play it again.

I totally disagree. I did not own most of them and I hit Plat easily every year and have a ton of codes saved up to boot. People exaggerate how hard it is to plat every year. It's actually quite easy if you purchase the hardware when it comes out and a few games every year and do your surveys. If you hit Plat or get close early on then don't register anything else until the new year starts and then you can shift the points to the next year.

Now, if you primarily play games on other platforms and only rarely buy the occasional game for your Nintendo, then I would say it is probably more difficult but then again I don't think CN is set up to reward people like you.

Well, I buy a lot of Nintendo games. I was a 3DS Ambassador, so that took out a few of the games. I also buy 99% of the core Nintendo games at release. I hit Platinum easily and have tons of points to spare, but on the list of free games the only one I didn't already own through other means was Dillon's Rolling Western. I was kinda hoping for a soundtrack or something similar to that. They could have even gotten around the whole "having to ship something physical" by offering a digital download soundtrack.

I guess it depends
I didn't own most of the games they were offering, between the stellar 3DS line-up and Wii U I'm still on a slight backlog with redeeming games so its from previous years as well as freebies from Kart and the likes

I partly agree. I already had DKCR on Wii (though considering I didn't have the 3DS version & wouldn't mind replaying w/o motion controls, that was my choice), I have 4 of the NES titles offered thanks to the 3DS Ambassador (Metroid, Ice Climbers, Super Mario Bros, & Zelda 2), I got the 3D Classics version of Kid Icarus for pre-ordering Uprising, I had Game & Wario previously, I already have Earthbound & NES Remix, I have the physical version of Wario Land 2 (but I would have downloaded it if I didn't), and I got SML2: 6 Golden Coins on 3DS as well. So that's 11 games/versions that I already own in some form or another out of the 16 games possible.

However, I'm probably more of an exception since I've hit Platinum every year now and I will admit at least for the Platinum selection, it's a bit varied, since I didn't own 1/2 of the games offered in one way or another. & considering how there's a ton of games from Nintendo, select 3rd party, &/or digital that give you coins, there's the very high change that you don't own all, if not most, of the games they offered.

I guess I was special/unlucky then. I ran into the same "issue" with the Mario Kart 8 offer and actually traded in one of the physical games towards MK8 so I could then get it back for free.

I apologize if this has been answered before, but my brother bought MK8 digitally but didn't have his CN account linked. Is there an easy way to rectify this, or is calling Nintendo the only answer?

Call them, There's only one trigger that lets Club Nintendo you bought something, once you buy/redeem a code the program has no way to know you bought it (which sucks), at least not for promotions afaik.

Well I can't agree with that at all. I only had 3 of those games. Bought NES Remix, Metroid was free, and Dillion was a ClubNintendo reward. People just upset that they don't get something to collect dust.

Exactly. This years rewards were the best ever. Do people seriously want an OST? I've had mine and they are just in the closet. Absolutely useless. I think the best approach would be to give platinum users two choices; gold one, with one of those choices being eshop credit to be used toward whatever they'd like.

I could argue that a digital game, once I complete it &/or get bored with it, it'll just collect digital dust in one of my folders. Though I wish they'd do what's described below.

To each their own. I keep about 7 or 8 gaming-related OSTs in the car for when I drive around, most of which were either from LEs or pre-order bonuses (& that's only about half of what I own). Though I do agree with your idea. They should do it like they did last year, where you had the option of a digital game or the physical reward. Or heck, do it like the first year where it was a game that was actually exclusive. Club Nintendo JPN already does this with their normal rewards, and it's a mix of both digital and physical copies. That way, people would still get the feeling they're getting something special/exclusive. I think the mixture of digital games & physical rewards was the best solution since it made the most amount of people happy, even if the actual prizes/games might not have pleased everyone.

I was totally and utterly satisfied with the Platinum rewards this year. I detest statues (though the Yoshi plush looked adorable).

Never would have bought Game & Wario unless it was sub 10 bucks, so now I get it for free. It's not like anyone is forcing you to register your games, and if you bought games you didn't actually want to rack up points to win a mystery prize, then it's your own fault.

I owned most of them, but I went ahead and grabbed game and wario as well. Kind of left unimpressed, simply given that Club Nintendo NA doesn't have access to the stuff that other parts of the planet get. Still though, I will likely get more enjoyment out of this than a pack of cards.

The only reason I'm disappointed with the Elite reward selections is because I already owned all of the ones I would have wanted. I never really had any interest in Game & Wario after how disappointed I was with Smooth Moves, but the DDP points made it worth it.

To be honest, I was just as disappointed with the free game w/ Mario Kart 8 promotion they're running. Of course my irritation with that was in regards to the breadth of choices Europe got compared to what the US got. I would have loved to been able to get Monster Hunter or Sonic Lost World for free. Instead, I sold a Pikmin 3 download to someone for like 18 bucks or something. I'd rather have gotten a game I wanted.
