US/CAN Club Nintendo Thread: New and improved. Read the OP.

So I selected DKCR3D as my gift... only to realize I don't have enough space on my 3DS to hold it.

The game that I have that takes up the most space is the digital version of Animal Crossing. This leads to my question: if I were to delete Animal Crossing, would it delete my town as well? I tried to back up the save and it tells me I can't. I haven't played Animal Crossing in a long time so deleting the game itself isn't a big deal. However, I'd like to keep my town just in case I do play it again.
I'm not sure on the save. However, why not just get a larger SD card and do a transfer - you'll be able to keep AC (and save file) and have plenty of new space for future games.

Yes, you will lose your town. You cannot backup saves for several games (Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and others).

Just buy a bigger SD card, copy the contents of your existing card to the new, blank card using a PC.

I thought Nintendo added a backup utility for digital game saves last year sometime. I forget where it was though.

You should back up your entire SD card to your computer before you delete it. Then you will for sure have the file for the game on there somewhere, which you can probably identify by the file size later. Plus, it doesn't hurt to keep backups of your SD just in case it totally fails.

Am I the only one still getting this

I think he hits the nail on the head. If you had enough points to be Platinum/Gold then you probably own most, if not all, of the free games.

Obviously if you spend a few hundred dollars on Nintendo, 3DS, and Wii U products a year, you own EVERY SINGLE Wii U & 3DS GAME ALREADY!!!!

I got a few hundred more coins than the minimum to get Platinum and I only owned Earthbound & NES Remix already.

They did, and it is accessible directly in the 3DS data management. However, certain games are not permitted to use the backup, probably to deter cheating by making duplicate save files of online games. Animal Crossing is one of these games.

I easily hit Platinum every year and still had five games on that list that I didn't own, including both of the valuable ones. It can be hit or miss though.

Exactly. This years rewards were the best ever. Do people seriously want an OST? I've had mine and they are just in the closet. Absolutely useless. I think the best approach would be to give platinum users two choices; gold one, with one of those choices being eshop credit to be used toward whatever they'd like.

I rip every soundtrack I get from my games and stick it on iTunes, so I definitely put mine to use. The eShop credit thing would be nice though. I do have some games from there that I would still like to get. Last I checked, EU has the option of getting credit for their stars.

Sometimes when Curler replies in this thread I think of the fact that Clipper created it and wonder if I'm living in a Toy Story-esque world where giant sentient hair implements have learned to type.

Yep, AC and Poke:X/Y are a few of the very very small selection (they might be the only ones) you can't backup the save with digital version, sans moving to your PC or a different SD card.

Yeah! and press the triangle button at the bottom of your bottom screen when highlighting a game you wish to backup.

I don't care if they want to do digital rewards, just please let us know in the future. We have never received a digital reward before, so it was jarring more than anything.

In the future they should just let people know what the reward is to make up their minds as to whether or not to pursue a Platinum or Gold reward.

Then you'd be guaranteeing the absoulte cheapest reward they could come up with every year (e.g. digital-only rewards). Otherwise, a big reward would cost them disproportionately more as more people would go for it, unless you did something heretical like say "only the first 1500 CN members to reach Platinum get the Platinum reward this year." They probably budget for the CN rewards each year, and if there's a lot of people that make it, the per reward available cost goes down. If not may people make it, then the per reward available cost goes up. Announcing beforehand would not help anyone.

I was thinking of that. Would you just have to do a copy and paste from the current SD card to the new one?

Is there anything special you need to do to back it up on a computer or do I just plug in the SD card and copy it over?

It's strange. I was thinking it might have to do with the fact I had the cartridge and, during some promotion, I bought it digitally so I'd always have it on the cart. I remember doing something to the save file so it would work. Thought it had something to do with that.

Thanks for the link! I still have the default card inside and would definitely want to upgrade at some point. I assume all Street Pass data and all Mii Plaza info would be transferred too? That's the big thing I'm afraid to lose!

I've gone from 2 to 4 to 16 to 32 to 64 just with straight copy to pc, pc to new card and have lost nothing. The only hitch was formatting the 64 card to FAT 32.

Good to know! I just have too much Street Pass data that I'm paranoid on losing. But there is a number of DD-only titles that I definitely want to pick up in the future, so 2GB definitely won't be enough.

Keep an eye out for Amazon gold box deals and best buy deal of the days. I got my 64gb card for thirty bucks from best buy on Sunday.

There's really no need to shit on the preferences of others simply because they don't match your own. Some people like collectibles and OSTs. There's nothing wrong with wanting that, especially since it has become somewhat of a standard over the last reward years.

Is there a specific SD card you need to look for when upgrading or any will be fine?

Most will be fine but remember that it must be formatted in FAT32. The one I bought was a Samsung microSD with an adapter but other brands are also good. Just do your research and watch out for scammers on eBay and such.

I got Wario, but it was mostly to earn enough points in the DDP program to redeem $5 credit on the eShop

I will play it anyway seems like a fun game, even better because it was free! :D
I think he means the error page on CN with Wario shaking a coin bag...

I got Game & Wario too for the same reason.

Remix 1 is better than Remix 2.

Remix 1 is the best format to play several of its featured games. A lot of those games aren't worth more than an hour of dicking around on their own IMO, but having a challenge and achievement structure built around them adds a lot of appeal and replay value for the more arcadey, score- and time-based games that make up most of its content. Going for 100% forces you to learn some nuance and tricks in these games that you might have forgotten or never knew about in the first place, and after doing so, I think you'll feel like you've gotten the full experience out of several of those games even without having access to the full games themselves. You just have to be able to put yourself in a 1985 mindset and accept that most of these games are built around much more limited and rigid controls, among other things.

Remix 2 often felt like little more than a tutorial for its games. I'd rather just play the individual games.

This sums up how I feel about both games to a T. The Remix 2 actual remixes are at least more fun than the regular levels in that game, though, which as SFF says are more tutorials/important moments in the games and less arcade-y minigames as they were in the original game (in which the games featured better lent themselves to that type of gameplay anyway).

Yeah, I do think the actual "remix" stages were a little better in the sequel, so I guess it wins out in terms of original content, but that's only, I don't know, one fourth of the total package? I can't remember exactly.

Barely a fourth probably, yeah, and the most time-consuming to unlock.

Anyone want my Platinum reward? I was gonna download one today since I've never played any of them but if I'm being honest with myself, I know I'm not going to play any of them. I don't like NES games and the others aren't my type. I'd rather give the code to a GAFer and know that they'll at least play and have fun. So if you aren't a Platinum or there's a game you wanna get from that list, I'll PM you the code.

I'd love Earthbound, though I'd hate to take it from someone that wasn't Plat. (I used my plat for NES Remix).

e: nm, already beaten

I thought you wanted a PM, not a quote. :(

Oh well.
