Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

So if a leak comes before Japanese release, how close would it appear?

I also wonder how long it'll take for people in the know to unlock all the characters.

Sal and other leakers being elusive is just common sense, why risk having your source found out?

This other leaker is basically just short of giving his source's comple information.

NO leaker does that.

All of this random Sceptile support/defense will be looked back on with embarrassment after the release of the game. It's the new Geno.

Agreed. Leaking stuff is serious business that goes beyond just getting fired. Even if the guy is showing the emails and stuff against the leakers will, I doubt any real leaker would keep in contact at that point because they'd basically been betrayed. Hell, if they did they'd probably only use fake info in order to try and discredit their own leak

The authentic Brawl leaks were in October, so we're past that point.

Well I don't recall when we got the whole roster, but one of the main leakers, the dude who revealed Dragoon to be in the game and later the whole roster, started in October.

I think it took Brawl under 12 hours for characters, then a little more for stages.

This time, though, I'll be covering at launch and, as those who follow me know, I'm ruthless when it comes to covering games.

I'll not let you down, SmashGAF.

Yes, one of the most BA starters, what's your point?

It's a Pokémon that's popularity isn't anywhere near the level of Blaziken or even Swampert. Thinking it has a shot for the sole purpose of filling in a grass niche outside of Pokémon Trainer is a rather large stretch, IMO

R/S/E is my favorite series of Pokémon games but I've never once thought it had a plausible shot at a playable rep outside of maybe Blaziken and despite the resurgence with OR/SA I don't even think that's likely. I'd wager Gen III and V will just be Pokeball summons.

It isn't random. Some people like Sceptile just like other Pokemon and want it to be in Smash (I hate it personally lol).

I don't see how it is comparable to Geno since it is a popular well known Pokemon.

I guess if you want to put it that way, then the Zoroark support/defense can be viewed like that as well.

I feel the Zoroark support actually made sense on the grounds that it was a promoted Pokémon.

But if the Greninja trailer is any indication, it's just a Pokeball summon.

I agree that it's extremely suspicious at first glance (especially the toggles; I thought that was dumb as hell) but upon reading more, I feel like there may be more than meets the eye here. Quick recap of the important details (so far):
  • His source is employee who was fired a while ago but is still in contact with some people. Some of his information is current (from contacts), while some may be outdated (from his own experience before being fired).
  • Miahstorm has been constantly replying to people's questions all throughout the thread, and has shown screencaps of the supposed emails he's received. Nowhere near as elusive as Sal is/was.
  • CREDIBILITY: He said in a private message to a mod that Chrom definitely isn't in the game a few days before the Robin reveal. This is pretty bold if fake as Gematsu was still holy at the time. Similarly, he also said that Lucina would be a Marth costume with mask and no-mask varieties. We know that this isn't true now, but it was true at some point in development, and it's pretty specific for a guess. These are the biggest things in his favour right now. EDIT: He also said that Rayman was originally considered but not in the game. This was before the big trophy mindfuck happened. So there's that.
  • He said that Bandanna Dee and Meta Knight would be revealed soon, and then later stated more firmly that they'd be revealed at SDCC. This is what's going to make or break the leak.

1. He haven't say anything about Robin but just Lucina.
2. Rayman rumor have been around, way before this guy. We have reliable leaker here that said that Ubisoft asked Nintendo if they want to include Rayman in Smash 4. From what I remember, they said no.
3. even I believe that it's fake, but early expiration date is very good to see if he's wrong or not.

It was a promoted Pokemon that failed to gain much traction. They tried to mimic the success they got with Lucario using a similar method as well. They pretty much stopped promoting it once they realized it wasn't going to be popular.

Sceptile appeared in the anime as Ash's starter in the Hoenn region, and with the ORAS coming out soon, I wouldn't be surprised if it appears in the anime again eventually.

Considering the launch is with Smash Bros, this must mean Smash Bros is launching quite a bit before "Holiday 2014" unless the Amiibos launch before the game does.

Weird, it says the amiibos have a Holiday 2014 release date with 10 being available at launch but I count 14 different figures in the pic.

With more being planned during 2015, it looks like there won't be amiibos for all the smash characters during the holidays which is surprising to me.

I recognize this, but it was still promoted at the time Smash 4 was announced so the support was understandable.

This I didn't know, so admittedly that's a point in its favor. But it's still not Blaziken.

But that's good for the collectors. Say there's 50 characters (Note: I just pulled a random number. Don't assume it's knowledge), each with a figure.

~$10 per figure. That's $500 on collecting them all.

But collectors like us are why Nintendo will soar in the next FY :p

Don't want to flood the market.

I will own every Amiibo and I will polish and clean them every day and I will play with them and have a Smash Bros. reality show in my room.

Also I will play Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U occasionally.

It's random in that there's nothing particularly notable about Sceptile that would warrant the attention it's been getting outside of the "starter trio" nonsense. Sceptile was not regularly brought up before Greninja's reveal, and even with OR/AS coming out, it still wouldn't feel like an organic character choice (to me, obviously). Lucario is the most popular D/P Pokémon, and Greninja is the most popular X/Y Pokémon. I get their inclusions. Sceptile is not the most popular R/S Pokémon -- it's not even the most popular R/S starter -- and so I don't see why it would be chosen as the sole representative of an entire generation.

Megaman, Sonic, and Pac-man amiibo would be cool to display beside Mario, Link, DK and Samus. That would be my primary amiibo targets for now...and Kirby of course :)

Finally got to making an avatar based on my (pipe)dream character for Smash.

Also, started working on a mockup for the screensavers with the renders. I've got a rough one here.

While I agree that Blaziken is the best Gen III starter, I would not be excited about another Fire starter being in Smash, especially when Pokemon had such a diverse cast to choose from and there are many types that would be fun besides Fire.

No, this is nothing compared to Geno.

Geno was a third-party owned secondary character from a SNES RPG treated as some huge thing. There were letters, petitions, the whole nine yards. Geno supporters were entirely convinced he was a shoe-in. The entire schbang was like a cult.

Sceptile is a starter Pokemon from a recent game (RS remakes).

That leaks sounds like the wet dream of a smashboards user with way too much time on their hands. They really really believe Sakurai is designing a game just for them? Toggeable wave-dashing/L-cancelling?

I'll eat my hat if half of it comes true except for the veterans coming back (because I really want Ness and Lucas back).

Joke's on you, I don't own a hat
