Anyway, to cool off this thread...

Are there vids showing the new victory themes? I want to hear WFT's, Villager's, and LM's music specifically, and I heard Bowser and Rosalina got new ones?

Come to think of it, I don't think I've heard Mega Man's either.

And yes, Bowser has a rock guitar version of the Mario victory theme and Rosalina's the Mario Galaxy title screen.

Why is keeping the starter trio a silly theory? The basic elemental triangle there is thematic of Pokemon and there's still the precedent from Brawl of having each type of starter.
The starter trio made complete sense in Brawl because, you know, there was an actual trio -- all three characters were locked to the Pokémon Trainer. You could cycle between all three evolutionary stages and the evolutionary types. Perfect.

But now that transformations are gone, that synergy doesn't exist anymore. Charizard is completely independent from Greninja, and there's no immediate need for a grass type. Sakurai implied that Greninja was chosen because it looked cool/interesting (and I'm sure there was a push from TPCi) -- it being a water type starter was most likely coincidental.

Mega Man's is a remix of the Mega Man 2 title screen theme. I can't find it now as I'm at work, but that hour long video on Mario Party Legacy's channel has it.

Eh, it still exists in the sense that it'd be cool to see a fire, water, and grass character next to each other in the CSS, but not much else. I think a lot of people will wonder why a grass starter wasn't chosen if 2 fire or 2 water starters make the game. That said, we don't NEED a grass starter so long as no more starters are introduced.

Sceptile makes too much sense. Fire, water, grass. Rep from multiple generations that span the beggining, the middle, and the latest. Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire remakes are coming. Sceptile has a mega. The only thing that is suspect is Sakurai said himself they chose Greninja very early in X/Ys development. Could OR/AS have been revealed to Sakurai near that same time?
Talking about that article, he also stated they had an "open slot for a Pokémon", and they chose Greninja before his actual reveal to fill it.

Not to read too much into it, but they cut two Pokémon from Brawl, wouldn't that open up two slots? Mewtwo makes sense too, considering how much attention he got in X/Y (two megas, Pokémon Origins, an entire movie).

Huh, seems I stepped on some toes. Well take these as bandages then; Xenoblade-themed avatars in the combined hope of Smash representation, yay *confetti*

I tried to go with an obscured effect so that thier silhouettes were identifiable and some basic detail. But the modified filter I ran them through is a little antsy and worked better on some them others.
Anyway I'm no Neorice, but enjoy them anyway, whoever wants them.

Oh, I do have higher res one's if anyone wants to modify them, just send me a pm.

He wasn't explicitly, but the fact that we have two Wario characters as ATs - Ashley and Waluigi - all but confirms him.

Not only that, Waluigi and Ashley had Wario emblems, and only series with stages or characters have their own emblems.

That's based on the assumption that it couldn't possibly have more characters than in Brawl in the first place (and also that Mewtwo's returning).

UGH. I hate hate *hate* almost everything about that Smashboards leak (especially no RH rep but wavedashing/L-canceling/Melee air dodges are in, even on toggle). A lot of it sounds like pretty outlandish wish-fulfillment that couldn't possibly be real, but I'm getting that same uncomfortable feeling of dread I got when Sal's Brawl roster was originally leaked and eventually proven to be legit.

God, I hope this Smashboards guy is just a troll. Really need SDCC to come and go without a Bandana Dee/Meta Knight trailer, thanks.

That said, Giygas and Dragon Roost Island stages would be epic... but not worth getting all that other junk along with it. :(

Does he though?

Of course he does. What makes Mega Man any less deserving than Pac-Man and Sonic?

Even with them no longer being stuck together the synergy is still there to a certain degree because everyone knows the fire/water/grass dynamic of Pokemon and it would seem weirdly unbalanced for a fire and water starter to appear with grass being absent. Imagine if only Zelda or Ganondorf had been added to smash rather than both. It would feel strange having only two parts of the triforce represented and people would want the third one added to round it out. And I seriously doubt Sakurai's X & Y pick being a starter was pure coincidence.

The Devil's Machine with Giygas in tow is still an awful idea for a Mother stage (assuming it is the only stage).

And as much as I'd love me some Bandana Dee and Mewtwo, I'd really hate missing out on a RH character at this point.

It doesn't at all seem unbalanced to me, honestly. I'm not expecting a grass starter, and it isn't going to feel weird without one.

Link and Zelda/Sheik were going to be the only Zelda characters in Melee until Ganondorf's last minute inclusion as a clone. He wasn't planned, and he was the last character added to the game.

yo i'd take one of these with snake on it

And mascot Pokemon means a Pokemon that appears frequently in the anime, games, merchandise, and any other form of promotion for Pokemon. The main 3 Pokemon are Pikachu, Charizard, and Lucario.

Uhhh, I don't think so. Lucario's a predominant product placement pokemon and he's the mascot for 4th gen but I wouldn't put him on the level of Pikachu and other cute Pokemon that appeal to the kids and girl groups.

He's in brawl and is still a predominant product placement pokemon that's well loved so he's in Smash 4 ... but there are other more whored out Pokemon that aren't in smash as Characters (like Eevee).

As for the leak ... I hate to say it (as a Blaziken lover) but it makes sense. Char is fire and is like the 2nd of 3rd most loved Pokemon in history- Ninja frog is water and reps the latest gen- Tree raptor is grass and reps the 3rd gen that got cheated out of a rep in Brawl duo to time AND it's the latest games to be revealed. We had em all (the starter types) with PT in brawl ... we can have em all without PT.

The Devil's Machine with Giygas in tow is still an awful idea for a Mother stage (assuming it is the only stage).
It also doesn't really represent Mother as a whole, it's supposed to be about weird towns and discovering things like a kid, the Giygas stage would just make it seem creepy and not at all like Mother

Why the hell would you hate a toggle option that plenty of people are asking for? I mean I even think that rumor is just bogus but hating even having the option of that stuff? That's just stupid

Exactly, which is why I just cannot see Sakurai intentionally picking the stage. You're also effectively cutting off a large library of Mother music since most songs wouldn't fit the atmosphere and tone.

The people who want wavedashing to return are a lot smaller in the grand scheme of things. A small percentage of people who will actually buy and play smash 4. It may even turn some people off to ever trying to play competitively (like me). If I need to master wavedashing to play for glory with relative success, I don't want to play for glory. I'm probably not alone in this. This is melee-enthusiast wish-fulfillment. That's a lot of work for sakurai and team to have to try to balance the game for 2 different set of mechanics. Not worth it from a cost-benefit-analysis. You're making a very few people happy, probably just as many unhappy, and you give yourself a lot of work to do to please a small amount of people.

To be fair: most of us would have thought a Final Destination option for most every stage would have been ludicrous had we heard about it prior to the Direct.

That caters to what some people consider 'hardcore' smash. College dorm levels of competitive smash bros. I think that number is greater than FGC level of smash players.

If it's an option chances are it won't be in the "for glory" mode. And anyone who says wavedashing is important was never actually tried to play competitively. You only need it if you elect to use a select few characters and even then it's often highly situational.

It's an option too so just turn it off. Heck tripping was objectively bad and didn't even have an off switch but that didn't stop anyone. And yeah it's total melee fan yank and that's why I think it's bogus

I think that leak is fake as hell so I'm not going to bother discussing it.

In regards to Sceptile specifically as a character? I don't know I guess the potential is there? I think Serperior would make a far more interesting grass Pokemon with snake-like movement and also has the benefit of being a Pokemon that didn't exist back when Brawl came out. (Where's my Black & White stage Sakurai? ;_;)

Don't think another Pokemon newcomer is happening regardless when Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Ivysaur, and Squirtle are all still contenders for the roster.
