Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Heard through the grapevine that Smash 3DS cannot afford to not make it in 2014, and that Smash Wii U could be delayed into 2015 depending upon how much Sakurai and company decide to change the characters around based upon feedback from all these demoes.

Double edged sword I see...If it means more balance/fun/glory, so be it.

From the BN employee I spoke to, all signs point to yes.
Possibly
.
Oh my.

Patches exist for a reason! But I do understand why devs would rather get the game complete without resorting to patches.

Waiting 4 Smash

ROFL!
Heaven help us if there is a delay. I can see Smashboards now. I could see the Wii U version being delayed.

Okay, now let me preface this by saying that I think overworking employees is no small issue and I think that caution should be exercised for the health of everyone on the dev team with regards to crunch time development.

But if I were on the Smash 4 Team, I'd probably treat the whole development period like a giant goddamn sleepover. Being in a building with a bunch of talented devs and Sakurai himself, I'd probably just sleep in my cubicle, bring food to eat and stuff. I mean, I know in romanticizing it, but it sounds kinda fun.

Again, workers being stretched to and beyond their limits is bad. But if it's a good and friendly environment like I imagine this one is then I bet it'd be kinda fun in the way that persevering through a demanding situation forges bonds.

That'd odd, I would think that the Wii U version is the one that can't afford the delay. It's gonna have an awful holiday season if it only has Captain Toad's Treasure Trackers, Bayonetta 2, Sonic Boom, and Hyrule Warriors.

No way is SSBWiiU not making Holiday 2014--this is not just the launch of Smash Bros., this is also the launch of the entire Amiibo line. Amiibo is not going to launch without a major release to support it. A delay into 2015 is not happening.

Have they heard of patches
Actually, that's the funny part of what I heard: apparently there is a plan in place for patches and other DLC (which include characters). Have a feeling Sakurai just wants to take the extra time to fix up the Wii U version more if he has the chance. Hopefully not at risk of pushing back the game further (I doubt it though).

Whose to say Amiibos can't be delayed? A delay is quite possible.

There can't be a 2015 delay, there must not, I have waited too long for this.

interesting...

There is nothing in this area to see or do bar office buildings. We only really have one convenience store around here (Lawsons) and a dept store that's ok but anyway yes, you may be romanticising it slightly ;)

Actually, I'm only complaining if the delay is announced after I import a 3DS. I don't mind the hype living a bit longer and being able to play the 3DS version, Halo MC Collection, and ORAS for a bit longer.
Althought if both it and GTA V next-gen are delayed and end up near each other, that'd be a bummer.

Welp now this thread is gonna be over by tomorrow.

Yeah haha I meant like just hang out in the office building with other staff. Which I know isn't a thing that happens but still. Mad respect for anyone who works hard on game development.

I have like 5 games I want coming out around the time Smash3ds launches...so a delay would be ideal for my wallet but fuck that I want it noooow

On one hand it'd be nice for the lag to get balanced out and would hopefully cool down some of the flamewars over how the game played at SSB4 if there's more obvious adherence to competitive-feedback than there was for Brawl.

On the other hand patches are a thing that exist and I thought Smash being out before 2014 ends on the Wii U would be a bigger priority.

I want to believe this so badly, but why should we trust you?

I'm not really buying it? Smash is the biggest release that Nintendo's got and it missing the holiday would be pretty disastrous from a launch standpoint. Any chance of a second wind for the WiiU would pretty much catapult away. :lol

Besides, Sakurai's made a big deal about 3DS literally being the same game as WiiU. I strongly doubt that Sakurai is going to pump out the 3DS version and then add a bunch of balance revisions to the WiiU version and disrupt that.

also no offense but there's literally no reason to accept anything you're getting off 'the grapevine' as true

Until this game is actually in our hands, anything is possible. Even a delay.

Anything is technically possible, but Nintendo is banking very hard on Amiibos this holiday season, and I have a feeling the investors put greater emphasis on the big holiday release than they do on individual character balance. Without Smash and Amiibo, Nintendo has jack for the holiday season.

They have
Captain Toad
, that will be enough : )

Hey guys~

This is kinda not news but I thought I should say anyway.

I work near Bandai Namco in Tokyo and was just chatting with a guy working on Tekken 7.

Talking about Smash he said the whole team is on 'fire' and working insane hours. He said that there was talk of the 3DS version being delayed.

I explained this was really unlikely but he stood by his claim.

So there you go.

Well they will just have 10 amiibos available for the initial Holiday 2014 release and the 3DS device to use amiibos is not coming out until 2015.

Delaying Smash so more amiibos will be available for the Wii U audience and 3DS players can buy them is understandable if they need more time for the game.

Well, if they delay it, I won't feel guilty for letting Bayonetta 1+2 sit on my hard drive for half a year without playing them.

But my money is on no delay.

I heard from a reputable source that the game is delayed to 2015 because they added too much muscle mass to Star Wolf and Falco, breaking the engine completely.
