As much as I love Marvel, I do wish it was all of the main publishers under one subscription. I'll try this out though.

I want DC to have a subscription. Only way I'll ever read any of their weeklies

(To be fair, I don't pick up anything Marvel either. I just rely on the sub and don't mind getting comics late)

I've had this for years and is one of my favorite investments despite the multiple price bumps, some under the radar things that haven't been mentioned

Iredeemable Ant-Man by Kirkland- The premise of this book is just a super hero is a complete and utter dick, great fun at the start but i think it kind of limps to the finish line, still worth checking out for a fun read. Great if you're looking for something a little off the wall.

Madrox Mini-series and X-Factor Volume 3 by David- Peter David takes some street-level mutants and forms a detective agency out of them, in the process turning Multiple Man into one of the best Marvel characters around. This series is also a great slow burn, plot threads will hang around in the background for years before being fully resolved, and by the end a complete, whole story is told from front to back, which is difficult to do in comics these days. Also features one of the most heartbreaking moments I've ever read in a Marvel comic. heavily recommended for fans of street-level detective stuff.

Fantastic Four by Waid- I think this is the "editor's choice" right now and for good reason, Waid took the characters in an interesting and dark direction and the "Unthinkable" arc is a great story that really preys on the weaknesses of the Fantastic Four, plus it features Doom being great, which you really can't go wrong with. If you want to read a good Fantastic Four series but have no idea where to start, this is the arc right here.

Ghost Rider by Aaron- this is what Ghost Rider should be, just plain over the top vengeaful fun, Aaron really understands that a flaming skull riding a motorcycle doesn't need to have a ton of dialogue or even make much sense. Recommended for B-horror movie fans.

X-Statix by Milligan- superheroes acting like reality stars while dropping like flies in a super fun x-series, very out there for Marvel but pretty damn cool. Great little satirical story, good for humor.

My personal favorite pick goes to the Exiles series. Essentially boils down to a bunch of nobodies going to alternate realities to "fix them," so essentially a big long series of "what if's" with recurring characters that can die at any moment, good stuff for the first 20-30 issues before falling pretty heavily off course, but the start is great! If you're a little more versed in Marvel lore, there are a ton of in-jokes in this and it revisits a lot of cool classic moments with interesting twists.

Most, if not all of the Marvel NOW series are perfect for everyone that's new to comics and wants to read some of the current stuff. Most have a fancy #1 issue, so you can read without worrying much about years of backstory.

Daredevil by Mark Waid
Superior Spider-Man
All New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men by Bendis
Thor: God of Thunder by Jason Aaron
Fantastic Four and FF by Matt Fraction
Captain Marvel by DeConnick
Avengers and New Avengers by Hickman, which both lead right into Infinity.

There's also other series you guys might enjoy like Captain America by Rick Remender and Iron Man by Gillen, but they tend to be hit or miss runs, so I don't recommended for someone just starting out.

Have fun!

I'm betting the post you're thinking of was recommending you read the 2008 series by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, rather than the Bendis version which started last year. However, I recommend you just start with column one in the OP, because all the characters from GotG are basically the cast of the huge epic storyline shown in that graphic, and the point at which they actually decide to form a team and call it that is well into the story.

Just start with Thanos 1-12 and follow the list from there. You'll enjoy every minute.

Awesome, lunch breaking coming up, will start there. Thanks!

I just decided to start with Civil War.

Everyone needs to get off the website because its being shitty right now and I can't read anything.

I've been playing around with the service and I'm honestly surprised that the quality is as good as it is. I'm probably going to keep my sub so that I can read comics in between classes.

I'd like a discount on the yearly subscription. A while back they were giving you a Ultron figure if you subscribed.

For Punisher, Ennis' MAX run is the best one and a must read as you said. In addition, Greg Rucka's run was another great one that took place in the main universe.

Haven't read much Venom, but Rick Remender's run was really good. I find Flash Thompson to be a way better character than Eddie Brock in all levels.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been on the fence about trying this for a while. I'm not the biggest superhero fan out there, does Marvel have anything that isn't prototypical superhero to check out. Maybe a dumb question but I'm new to comics and have only read Preacher, Y the Last Man, Walking Dead etc.

Thanks, OP. I didn't even know something like this existed.

I've never really been into comics, but I have been wanting to get Superior Spider-Man.

I subbed a month ago, and literally the only comic I wanted to read on impulse (Wolverine 75, the last part of the Fatal Attraction event, where Wolverine gets his metal ripped out by Magneto) wasn't up. Still angry.

If I want to read some modern X-men stuff, what should I read? I've already read most of the obvious stuff (Astonishing X-men, Messiah Complex, House of M, ect)

Depends what you mean by modern. X-men (Vol. 2), starting from the Grant Morrison run is pretty amazing, and is what really ushered in the current era of the X-men, stuff like Emma/Scott got it start there, along with several characters that are still around today. The issues you are looking for are 114-154.

After that, New X-men 20-messian complex. Great young X-men book, tragic, but fun.

Also I would recommend X-23: Innocence Lost and X-23: Target X.

Another great X run is Madrox mini + X-factor. All written by Peter A. David. Amazing stuff, and one of the best unsung series around.

That should get you started.

Even if you do that, should you read them at different rates so they connect at the multi-series events?

You don't really have to. All of the event tie-ins give you a good summary what you need to know from the event itself, and tie-ins from two different books never have anything to do with each other.

Basically you just can just read whatever you want at whatever pace you want, and you won't miss out on anything or suffer because of it. Some people like to read events, and their tie-ins together as a whole though, so that's an option as well.

I wouldn't worry much about events unless you're reading Avengers or X-Men. Most of the character books tend to shy away from them, and if they crossover, it's only an issue or two at most. The stories also tend to be self-contained so you can still enjoy them even if you're not reading the main event.

I just reupped for a year a few days before this promo but I'm fine with it, since it's such a great value. So many comics to read for the price and the 6 month delay on new comics is very reasonable.
Read through Hawkeye again and currently plugging through War of Kings Guardians of the Galaxy.
The iPad version got way better the last couple of updates too. Last year it was a piece of poop, now it's decent.

If DC did something similar I would sign up for that too.

The oldest stuff is Captain America's first book from 1941. Which was actually published by Timely Comics, 20 years before Marvel even existed. It has a few things like that from the 40's, and then everything from when Marvel really started in the early 60's.

HOLY WOW =O

Tempting even if only to see if Night Nurse is as bad as it looks hehehe

The site is rejecting both my cards with address errors. I added one to my profile because it said "address doesn't match card on file", and now I can't even remove that, it just gives me a blank page with a form error. Why is the site so shitty

AGGGGGGGGGGH

I was ordering and didn't notice you still had to enter the promo code after subbing THROUGH the promo link. What the fuck. There goes $9 I didn't want to spend.

I'm dumb and should have read closely but I was in an excited hurry.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Thanks for not acknowledging Moon Knight existed prior to 2006, Marvel. Gah.

Ah well, it was only a dollar. Still really want to read some classic Moon Knight, though. ;_;

So I've got a Kindle and after purchasing this it seems like...there is no Marvel Unlimited app for Kindle. What the hell? Anyone think its worth it to get an iPad or some other kind of tablet for the main reason of reading comics on? Or is that foolishness? And if it is not foolish...any recs on what to get?

Yeah, it got me too. No confirmation screen either, it just takes the money immediately.

It tells you on the page that the op links to that you have to enter the promo code on the order page.

Do you need any specific programs or extensions to read the comics on a browser, or can you just sign into the website and read? I'm asking because I'd be reading a lot a work and I wouldn't want to have to download the program/extension on the several different computers I used throughout the work week.
