Nintendo Downloads - July 2014

The "this week is weak" comments is slightly insulting to the devs who put out games that week and kinda implies further the stereotype of "Nintendo fans don't buy 3rd party games" stick. Esp in a week such as this with what seems like at least 2 good Wii U indie games and at least 1 good 3DS indie game from impressions.

In other words, don't be an asshole. :)

A few days ago, you could find Batman Arkham Origins on sale on the eshop for 20 bucks. Not sure if the price is still valid, and I'm really surprised that the sale wasn't announced anywhere (GAF included).

It is a permanent price drop. Oddly enough Arkham City is still a full $60 so go figure.

However the PSN sale is pretty sick. I mean Plus members get Origins for $8

Yeah what he said, seriously folks

It is unfair to see games go on sale for Wii U and then other consoles get a much cheaper price. There examples I can think of:

Cloudberry Kingdom got a 50% off or so sale on Wii U and then a week later was on sale cheaper on PS3.

Trine 2 has had many sales on Wii U but other systems have gotten better sales.

Batman is cheaper on PS4 right now even know the Wii U started cheaper due to the lack of online.

Indeed. Sure, there are games I want to see released that aren't, and there are games that are released that I'm not interested in. But, that's life, that happens.
There are, however, games that are released that I do enjoy, and so I focus on them and enjoy them.

It's not that we can't voice issues and displeasure with things - and certainly there are reasons to do so.
And, we can certainly talk about games that we want. Darn if I don't want Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy 6 to come out here, and for the Dragon Quest games to get put out as well.

And, of course, it's not anyone's job to "police" threads, the moderators do their thing already.
But, when week in and week out, we have people saying "No GameX, GameY, and GameZ, no CrossBuy, no Discounts, Nintendo is such a failure," and ignoring all the games that are released just gets really darn annoying.

On another note,

Just because we didn't get 1000 VC and a handjob from Iwata doesn't mean this week was bad at all.

I don't think that would make for a very good week for me.
Please understand.

I know you can see 3DS games on the Wii U eShop*. I think I had something new happen, after downloading Pokemon Link battle in the "people who downloaded this also downloaded box" there were two options NES Remix (and possibly balloon fight) both games had no icons, and hitting NES remix one gave an error message which I didn't note down, sorry.

I wonder what that was about? Maybe now it is using NNID purchases when working out games for the "people who downloaded this also downloaded box" and nobody put a check in to ensure you can't get Wii U eShop hits on a 3DS...

*-The Wii U eShop section on the 3DS eShop is just a selection of trailers.

Mega Man Battle Network is the European version and not the US version, btw. Not that it makes a difference (I know of), but it has the Ubisoft logo at the beginning.
Collectible download time*...shame there isn't a robust way to make backups (though they might just make update data that consists of the US ROM).

But seriously if they tested the US version and thought it would be the US version coming out does that mean they are using an untested European version? Almost suggests we could have got FIGS Golden Sun after all...(speculation is testing the game an additional 4 times was too much, Nintendo customer services were useless in giving me any sort of real answer)

It also calls into question how exactly these games are compiled and who provides the ROM etc.

*-To join fast explosions version of Star Fox 64 and other ones I forget.

This has been going on ever since NNID was implemented on 3DS. They're just not very careful with it, I guess.

It's weak because the releases should be balanced. Maybe throw in Zero Mission. And the sales have been disappointing.

I don't see it as disrespecting the devs. I'm not singling out individual games but this week's update as a whole.

It's like PSN updates. There's new releases all the time but if the sales are weak, it's disappointing.

By the way, is Blaster Master: Enemy Below (GBC) a remake/port/enhanced port of Blaster Master (NES), or are they entirely different games?

👏👏👏👏👏

Seriously, though, it kind of amazes me anyone who focuses on the negative like that has any fun at all. And they so often seem to only want to play specific old games they've likely played many times before to boot. We want to move forward, don't we?

This week is great?

Master Reboot, Wooden Sen'Sey are both great. Ufouria's an under appreciated gem and Super Toy Cars is pretty good too.

Just because we didn't get 1000 VC and a handjob from Iwata doesn't mean this week was bad at all.

You know the Nintendo weekly releases are bad when anything better than single VC releases are considered to be "handjobs."

Come on, I think everyone can agree that Nintendo can do better. A lot better. They're not going anywhere with this kind of system.

Here are some reviews from the PC and PS3 versions:

Here's an interview you might find interesting:

I haven't seen any reviews of the Wii U version yet.

I read some reviews already, it was the first thing I checked after the trailer, but it didn't really help. The reviews are on the low side but without seeming broken. It's unpolished as far as I understand, but I'm curious how much this impacts the enjoyment of the game. I'm not too picky when it comes to indie games and I enjoyed a lot of games that were categorized as not polished enough. I will probably buy it, but some impressions here would be nice.

Has anyone got Master Reboot? I like the look of it but would like to hear some impressions. All I've seen so far is this;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7mmW9D0T5w
I bought it today. My early impressions (2 hours) of the game are good from what I played. It is a horror, adventure game with a nice, peculiar art style and eerie sound track. There are a few sections in the beginning which didnt seem fun and only served to advance the story. There are a lot more rooms to visit so im sure it will improve.

Any week with Ufouria is a great week. Period.
Yeah.

Believe me guys, I'm very much waiting SPECIFICALLY for Metroid: Zero Mission so any week until then will not feel like it's catered to me.

That said, good games are good games. A bad week this is not. I played Ufouria when it was released as an import game on Wii Virtual Console and it's very much worthy of a playthrough if you like Metroidvania games at all. Since it's an import it's quite an original experience in its feel and it sort of brings you back to the days when you'd blindly go into NES games and discover all your old favorites.

Highly recommended. For $5 it beats the heck out of a lot of the other NES titles on the Wii U VC.

Complaining about complaining is just as disruptive as complaining.
I'm not complaining about complaining. I'm rejecting the complaint itself, it's simply wrong. Particularly in terms if Virtual Console, Ufouria and Blaster Master are both really good games. It's one of the best VC weeks in awhile really.

Ufouria isn't on the Europe VC right? Seems a bit weird to be out in the NA eShop only (considering it's an import), but maybe it'll come later.

So, Siesta Fiesta is a really fun Breakout-type game. The soundtrack is very charming (in a Rayman sort of way) and getting Gold medals is rather challenging. I just finished the first world and only got Silver on every level. The physics feel good and the different worlds (with different backgrounds, music, etc.) provide some variety. The boss pinatas are a neat touch.

Definitely recommended for fans of the genre. Edit: nm, no discount.

Siesta Fiesta has a really annoying issue that I can't believe made it into the final product. Hitting the ball with the side of the paddle gives you a "Super Rebound", and a large icon pops up on the lower part of the top screen informing you of this feat. The icon completely covers up everything happening on that part of the screen, including your paddle and the ball if that's where they're located. This can make it impossible to avoid losing your ball. WTF were they thinking?

So you're complaining about complaining about complaining?

Ow, my head.

Thanks for the impressions, I'll probably grab it.

What's the discount? I don't see a mention of it on the eShop.

The 3DS doesn't seem to make it obvious when things are discounted, so it's not entirely clear to me. But I don't see a banner for it.

Have other 3DS games had launch discounts, or just Wii U games?

The only game that comes to mind is the 3DS version of Edge. But Two Tribes had the shuttering thing before that time was up, and said discount price continued for a while. I guess at some point it went up, because in some previous month the eShop update listing said it got a permanent price drop to the launch price.

There's a permanent discounts section on the bottom row of icons along with best sellers, apps, VC, etc.

Do they still give you a discount on the WIi U version of a game if you already own the Wii version, or was that a limited time thing?

I forgot about that. If it's like the Wii U though, it actually misses some out like the discounts. (e.g. you can't see discounts for owning other games like Pushmo and NES Remix).

Has anyone played Super Toy Cars? $7.99 sounds like a legit price to me, and I like the look ... So, any feedback would be appreciated. I'd check the Steam reviews, but I'm at work.

Reviews on Steam are all over the place so I held off. Still very much interested in GAF impressions, though. Seems like nobody's picked it up so far.

It feels like good EU 3DS sales are quite rare. Had it for three months and it was mostly obscure stuff I didn't really want, save for a few actually good deals. Even the E3 sale didn't happen in Europe for some reason and I was hoping for cheap Ocarina of Time. Oh well. At least I'm having a better experience with the Wii U so far, what with that Earthbound sale and the MK8 promotion.

I admit that I'm probably spoiled by the Steam sales, but the PSN seems to be much better in that regard too.

I've heard from some indies that released their games there that they never got a cent of profit.. The AU market is kinda small compared to US/Europe. So there is that issue too.

$900?! I've heard like $500... $900 makes that so much worse. As a very small time indie, that is a LOT of money. The big buys can afford to write that off, but I can't. I need to wait for money from other regions before I can try Europe (with with PEGI/USK can cost around $1000 inc bank fees.). I will eventually release my Wii U game in AU, though if it is truly $900 or more (ESRB in US is free), it might be a while. Who knows what kind of bank fee Ill get for AU transfer.

Those rating agencies REALLY need to get with the damn program and start being free. ESRB is now free for downloadable only games. Which helps out a lot of us in NA

Hmm, I guess not knowing what the margins/costs etc are like makes it all new to me in terms of what it costs to get them out here.

I'm going to contact Nintendo I reckon and ask why they dont help out for D/L exclusives. Assuming they dont.

Agreed. Some gamers just piss me off with how little regard they have for the hard work devs put into the games that are actually worth looking into.

I received a review copy for my site, and I'm digging the game so far. Time trials are absolutely way too easy, but the races are a lot of fun against the AI. Sadly, no online play, which stinks because that would have been awesome. So would sharing custom-made tracks. I've yet to try my hand at making one yet, so I can't go into how much detail there is, but as soon as I do, I'll dish.

The one thing that I don't care for is how small and narrow the text is. It's very hard to read if you don't have a huge TV.

edit:

What the fuck is Kirby Fighters, and why haven't I heard about it?!

It was a game within Kirby: Triple Deluxe where you fight against other Kirbys with different powers like Sword, Fire and such. Sort of Smash Bros. like. This is a standalone version, but like the Triple Deluxe version, there's no online play still, and just a few more stages. I'm not sure if that's the extent of new additions.

Wooden Sen'Sey has a lot of charm and I would love play it was not the fact that double jump is so tricky to pull off.

Instead of it being B down on the stick then Y, it should have been B+Y.

Make jumps very frustrating.

Crap, my 3DS 32gb memory stick is almost full. Gotta find a 128gb one with a nice price soon, this year still have many things left for me to buy.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad that, when I upgraded from the 16GB card I bought when the system came out, that I went for a 64GB card, since I have more than 32GB already.
Hopefully by the time I need more space, 128GB prices have fallen a bit
or 256GB >.>
