SDCC2014 | Nintendo Challenge: Live @ SDCC & Smash 3DS Tournament

Did you see the Smash Tournament stream during E3? You know, the one where they showcased the game using pro players and announcers and the like?

Why post in that tone? That was only one single tournament, not to mention under settings that don't showcase the actual game mechanics well. I'm talking on a more frequent basis, like weekly streams or regular progress reports. That E3 Smash tournament where a couple pro players played for the first time doesn't really show anything. If they want to instill confidence that this game can be played at high levels and have long legs, then they should more effective with how gameplay is shown, encompassing everything from game settings to who the person showing it off is.

I also find it bizarre how Nintendo speaks to its fanbase as if we haven't been playing their games for decades.

I'm almost certain that it's unfinished. This build is really old and some of the items don't work properly - the Fairy apparently doesn't do anything at all, for instance.

I'd be really surprised if in the final version you can't mash out of the Beetle's grasp like if you were grabbed by a player.

I hope so. I rarely play with items on anyway but that one just seems crazy.

Give up, Sah. People will hate the game regardless of what you tell them.

It's just frustrating to see this mass hatred and disappointment at some very random lag issue.

I played the game four hours ago, with 4 players for a total of 1.5 hours.

It had not a single issue but one random stutter.

But yes, I'll give up now.

Please listen to me dammit! :(

It's NOT the game! I played it earlier and it was faultless.

This stream is going to damage the 3DS games publicity. Also, the display is dull compared to real life.

Ah well. At least I know how it plays in real life.

Well, I can't believe that either is true till I play the game and see it with my own eyes.

I'm quoting this because I'm sick of seeing people ignore it.

Hey GAF. I'm here in the Nintendo Lounge. Not in the tournament though.

Btw, 3DS ver seems to have major slowdowns when there's too much action on screen.

Wii U version is beign played with GCN controllers. Perfectly smooth so far.

Hit me up if you have any questions!?

I don't even want the 3DS game, but you're right in that this absolutely the first time we've heard of major lag issues with the 3DS game.

All other reports have been that it's technically flawless, vibrantly colorful, and smooth as butter.

I wanted to ask how does the game feel in a original 3ds? Is it too small?. I haven't been able to look through the thread sorry.

really? you want this game that isnt even out yet to played weekly?

haha holy shit

That DK Final Smash should pretty much prove the lag is the game's prob, not by the guy being bad at the rhythm game but by how the FS music was uninterrupted through all that, ending way earlier while DK was still banging drums with the SFX being on sync.

That's a safe guess as to when it was completed (based on the content included and such), but is that confirmed anywhere?

It's just a few little things, like megaman having no expression on his face during his final smash in the E3 version whereas he actually scowls in the smash direct and the fact that Samus' Zero laser looks a lot better in the smash direct than the E3 demo (visually speaking).

E: Though I'm guessing that's not what you mean by 'confirmed'

if it makes you feel any better I'm near confident that it's due to interference

but I'd almost bet money online play will look like that in the final game

I believes ya! They wouldn't showcase the game if it had that kind of performance issue. Are you still in the tourney?

SuperSah, the only Smash Bros. 3DS player in the future.

Believe me, I share your frustration, but I have given up on debating about Smash 3DS already. It is becoming some sort of Brawl 2 (in terms of popularity among the community), but you know what? I will still play and enjoy the hell out of it, like I did (and still do) with Brawl.

If the online sucks, it will likely in both versions, though.

With his weight, and new found speed and reach (plus dat Bowser Bomb).

Bowser will easily dominate FFAs.

So GOOOD!

Yeah, you better give up. It's no point to defend the game because people already made up their minds about it. If they want to skip 3DS then fine with me. I'm going to pick up the game and enjoy it with friends who actually picked up the games.

oiutzI1

Inteliheath asked so this is what I look like. I'm giving the knee of justice. Hopefully it loads.

Edit: I can't do squat from my phone.

On an OG 3DS, what I own, I thought it was still a good size. Honestly, nothing is hard to see. Even when the camera is zoomed out to like 100%, it felt very, very nice and was very visible.

The higher density screen helps a lot.

I have a detailed impressions I wrote up earlier I can link people to if they wish.

I've heard some people saying the framerate dipped/little laggy. Nothing this bad though.

Less people playing means less lag. ;)
I'm super pumped for portable Smash!

Don't worry sah, there are still some of us on your side who understand. While you can't convert everyone, take solace in the fact that some of us are already w/ you.

hahahahahahahahahah you clearly have no idea about other games that do this like a year before its released which builds confidence in its fanbase and lets the fans feel more involved in the game development process

hahahahahah holy shit

Ha.
