Nintendo Downloads - July 2014

I received a review copy for my site, and I'm digging the game so far. Time trials are absolutely way too easy, but the races are a lot of fun against the AI. Sadly, no online play, which stinks because that would have been awesome. So would sharing custom-made tracks. I've yet to try my hand at making one yet, so I can't go into how much detail there is, but as soon as I do, I'll dish.

The one thing that I don't care for is how small and narrow the text is. It's very hard to read if you don't have a huge TV.

Thanks! How are the controls? Some people seem iffy on them.

They're serviceable to me. Drifting (which is basically only used to store up boost energy rather than to speed around curves) is a little iffy, but I never have felt completely out of control of my vehicle. It also depends on which vehicle you're controlling, as each has different stats. Obviously a vehicle with better handling drives better than one without.

I'll post my review here when it's finished if that's okay. I don't want to come across as shamelessly self promoting myself.

Self-promoting? Not at all. You're being very helpful here, in fact. :) Looking forward to your review.

expanded version of the battle mini-game in Kirby Triple Deluxe

probably haven't heard about it 'cause I don't think it's been announced for release outside Japan yet?

Anyone knows exactly HOW expanded ?

Also ... does it have "backwards compatibility" with Kirby Triple Deluxe's Kirby Fighters ?

Would make way easier to have 4 player without download play

Kirby Fighters Z is a Smash Bros.-like fighting game that pits Kirbys against each other using different abilities. Players can choose between 12 abilities, two more than the mini-game in Triple Deluxe. However, the two new ones, Bell and Beetle, are only usable if StreetPass for Triple Deluxe is activated.

It will add five new stages, a team battle mode, and an expanded single-player mode complete with boss battles. Beating the single-player mode will unlock hats for Kirby and can even unlock Shadow Kirby as a playable character.

It is unfair to see games go on sale for Wii U and then other consoles get a much cheaper price. There examples I can think of:

Cloudberry Kingdom got a 50% off or so sale on Wii U and then a week later was on sale cheaper on PS3.

Trine 2 has had many sales on Wii U but other systems have gotten better sales.

Cloudberry Kingdom, which was originally only a Wii U release, also launched with a discount on PS3.

I'm a little frustrated that these companies do discounts on Steam or PS3 so early and so much cheaper than on Wii U, and I'm kind of annoyed that games like Guacamelee and Stick it to the Man launch for free same day on other consoles. It doesn't mean anything to me personally, but if these indies are taking a big bucket of money for these things, they better not turn around and say "Well my game sold poorly on Wii U." Of course it did. You can't undermine the release on the system and expect people to pay more to play it there.

I agree, I recently purchased a Wii U and PSN plus spoiled me, I chuckle at the eshop store pricing and sales.

Seems like these games are releasing next week?

Frederic: Resurrection of Music
X-Type
IQ Test

Has anyone heard of the first one before? Seems to have pretty good production values at the very least.

Steam leads me to believe it's touch-compatible and a rhythm game, which is criminally underserved on the platform right now, so right on.

It also says it's $6 regularly and on sale right now for $2, so hopefully the price on Wii U is somewhere in that ballpark in light of the discussion earlier. At under $5 I'd bite for sure.

Seems like I dodged a bullet. The screenshots + memories of Micro Mashines-likes = deceiving combination, it seems.

The foundation is there for something truly great. It's just the physics and collision issues bugged me.

Regardless, this is an impressive game in the sense that it was made by three people essentially.

I got a code for Siesta Fiesta, so I'm going to dive into that soon.

I know we have a buy sell thread, but I have a 32gb sandisk ultra SD card that I'm looking for $10 eShop credit for. Will ship via usps. Figured most people here would be interested

Everyone should buy X-Type+ out of principle alone. It's really fun and it's Miiverse integration puts other devs to shame, with the inclusion of the video upload feature.

Just a heads up for people with Siesta Fiesta: There's a bug that (sometimes?) causes your scores to be overwritten with the score you originally had on the level if you replay it a few times. So don't bother going back to try for gold medals until it gets fixed.

What is this X-Type+ you speak of...and is it on 3DS?

Looks to be a shooter with procedurally generated levels. On Wii U. One of 2 shooters on EU Wii U shop next week. The other is a horizontal shooter. Ice cream something or other. Bombing bastards also coming to EU next week plus some not so good looking racer.

Wooden Sen'Sey has a lot of charm and I would love play it was not the fact that double jump is so tricky to pull off.

Instead of it being B down on the stick then Y, it should have been B+Y.

Make jumps very frustrating.

I recommend playing with a Wiimote. Controls very smoothly that way, including for the double jump.

Is the Squids game still crossbuy if buy the 3DS game from the eShop ? Game looks quite nice, might get it now i sorted out my NNiD problems. How does it look on WiiU in HD ?

I guess so, because I don't understand what you're getting at. Obviously, you're talking about the account system issue, but what, do you boycott any Nintendo digital thing due to that or what?

Forget it. Just a bit salty my Wii VC purchases don't carry over into the main Wii U OS.

Any eShop recommendations? Preferably stuff I can't get on my PS3/Vita. Only have Toki Tori 2+ and Shovel Knight

In Europe, it should be. First, buy 3DS game, and you can download Wii U version free.

Unepic. You can buy it on Steam, but Off-tv is delicious.
