Only if we leave out the process with which the AS is acquired in TLA. In TLA, you need to cleanse your Chakra points, which at no real point we see Wan doing. I mean, I suppose he could have done if offscreen, but we can't assume that. The other course is to assume Wan just had none of the problems of illusions that plague essentially all of humanity, which is definitely not true. No, what made the AS what it is in LoK is Harmonic Convergence shananigans, and we all know the mechanics of it are so intricate that not even the writers know wtf it does.

The only way there isn't a disconnect is if at some point before Aang's time, the mechanics of the AS were changed to require a spiritual cleansing before the AS could be controlled, and sometime afterwards were changed again so that it could work with how Korra acquired them.

Well, to be fair, Aang never really did either. At least not in full. And none of that prevents the same being true for Raava and Korra. One could intuit - or the show could explicitly state - that the Avatar being in control of his or her mindset and spirituality would strengthen their bond to Raava, therefore increasing the attunement to the past lives. That makes enough sense to go on and doesn't disrespect either series' contribution to the lore.

But to simply state that's not how the AS works is corny. AS was always inconsistent in its presentation but the concept of being powered by your past lives was a cool part of the lore, and its disappointing that bit is being completely dumped just to treat the Avatar State as "super saiyan mode."

No, Aang did, it's just seemingly contradictory. Long story short, he did give up love....for love. It's a complicated concept, and I am pretty sure I gave my take on it not too long ago in this thread, but the context of the events happening makes no sense if he didn't.

Here's the scenerio: Aang and Katara are surrounded and about to lose. Realization of this dawns on Aang, and he looks sorrowfully at Katara. "I'm sorry, Katara." At which point he turns around, erects a crystal shield around him, and proceeds to enter the avatar state.

If he does no officially give up his love for Katara there, his last words before entering the avatar state saying "Sorry Katara" make no sense. I can't think of any other conclusion than the obvious: He completed the 8th and final step and gave up his earthly attachment of love for Katara. Now, my interpretation of this is that he gave up his the earthly attachment of his love, but not the love itself. He still loves Katara, but not as a personal mate or for beauty or any earthly matters: he loves her because he loves her. There is no earthly reason compelling him to love her, he just does. This can actually be extrapolated to say he loves the entire world in the same way he loves her, which is a kind of love only the avatar would be capable of anyway, but that's a different discussion point.

So yeah, Aang went the whole 8 chakras.

And while yours could be a possible explanation, 1. it's still not the explanation TLA gave, which is that it is the lives of the past avatars that compound within a single person that makes them as powerful as they are, so it's still a retcon no matter how you dice it and 2. at this point, you're writing for the show, which is as good as showing the show can't stand on it's own.

Suyin is bad and working with truth guy and Zaheer. Theres no way her and Lins story was resolved in episode 6 so easily. She purposely wanted to be questioned so people wont suspect her anymore.

We need to know why they want Korra though. Its been 8 great episodes but we still have no idea why the baddies want to grab Korra.

Also, needs more Zuko and Toph.

Would make sense that she waited until her daughter was out of the city to try and take Korra.

Yep. I also feel like the bad guys "failing" was also part of the plan. Like you mean to tell me Zahir couldnt do that smoke fake out to escape earlier when they had Korra with them? I dunno.

This also sets up Lins revenge on her sister. She can finally deliver justice to Su after all these years by putting her in prison.

A random metal bender stopped him. He's the real MVP.

Ok. That episode was on of the best in the season.

Excellent almost from start to finish.

Edit: Lol. I just noticed that randomly in the big fight one of the metal bender dudes firebended.

I like the theory that Su is into some illegal activities, but isn't involved with Zaheer. She just wants her advisor dude, so he doesn't mess up her activities.

no, because i believed in Goddessami's Light from day 1

Too bad Mako dumped her, and then Asami will eventually take him back. I'm losing more and more respect for Asami as each season goes on. Fuckin writers. :( Outside of Tenzin, she was my favorite character from Book 1.

What are they doing.

Hmm well that's certainly interesting

You see how close those two sat together in this episode? Soon.

Yeah - you don't offhandedly mention someone is wandering around the world and not have them wander into the show. I'm hopeful on Toph, who knows where Zuko went.

Lol what?

It wouldn't be far fetched however to imagine they have guards of all types of benders just so that their forces aren't easy to predict how to figt against.

If that were the case wouldn't he not be wearing the metal armor? Seems like he would be at a huge disadvantage wearing it.

He even has the wire coil things on his belt.

I can just picture him struggling to put on the metal bending armour on while the earth-benders bend it straight on

Fire Bender: *tries to put on suit* Fuck...fuck...

Metal Bender: *Instantly metal bends it on* Hey Billy you need he-

Fire Bender: No I got it! ...fuck....fuck....

I was hoping these guys would be very competent considering theyre the guardians of the "Most Secure City In The World" unlike what became of the White Lotus morons.

Team Avatar catch up with Zaheer and the gang and are losing badly. Just when Combustion woman is about to blow Korras head up, Zuko appears on his dragon from the sky with Toph sitting behind him and come to Team Avatars rescue.

Really liked the episode. I also like how they introduce new kinds of bending all the time, now you got a combustion bender and a lava bender. They're probably sub bending powers but it's still cool nonetheless.

It sucks that Asami has got the short end of the stick ever since season 1, but her arc in season 1 was one of the truly great things of the season

Along with Lin just totally wrecking those airships

I wish they did something like this in show. I miss the random minor character one off gags...

korra: what do those guys want anyway
zuko: there's no time to explain
korra: but it's the end of episode 14!

Let's get in full Shyamalan mode, since he wasn't really Shyamalan while making the movie. He isn't a bad director, he is a bad director that throws in twists like they're detergent.

Zaheer was the true avatar all along and the White Lotus stole his powers to transfer it to Korra, because Katara needed power in her political game. Noticed how every bigger evildoer so far was a waterbender? Everything was put in order by Katara to open the gates between north- and southpol and put her son, the last airbender at the time, in the important role of mentoring the new avatar, who is a young waterbender, influenced by Katara. She is of course allied with her true love Zuko, which is why the security at P'Li's prison was so lax and why they could take it so easy. Amon, the civil war, Varrick and Zaheer. All just pawns in Zutara's palms.

it's almost too easy.

Guys Korra has ALWAYS been boring. Seriously. I like the series but the main character has always been a drag.

1st season I rooted for Amon. Second season I rooted for everyone but Korra. Now this season Zahir n gang look to be good fun. I don't even think Korra has a goal. She just exists.

She doesn't have a clear goal like Aang, which is why she is not an interesting character and useless most of the time.

Wait huh. What has Asami done wrong?

By being a dead weight character and not being Korra love interest.

Oh, that Korra... always getting into trouble. And if you're one of the millions who enjoys her adventures -or should I say misadventures- it's time to show your support.
Sure, Nickelodeon makes a fortune from Spongebob - but it's still not enough. Not nearly enough! So if you don't want to see elaborate animated programming disappear from existance please, subscribe to Hulu now.

Korra has a clear goal of finding airbenders and recruiting them. Really, it's just an excuse to traipse around the world. Now her goal is to track down Zaheer and his squad.

Not as sexy as saving the world from firebenders tyranny, but she's not exactly aimless.

Think about this guys.

We are half way into Book 3, and close to Book 4...and Mako and Asami are the OTP.

Jokes aside assuming that they don't break up at the end of the season, Bolin and what's her face might be the only couple with little drama at the end of the show. Like Sokka with Suki.

On second thought, maybe we should've had the series be web-only since the beginning, that way we could've had 30-minute episodes. Could've gone a long way to flesh out plots and characters way more. It's the one complaint I have throughout the whole series, that even though Season 3 has been great I still can't shake the feeling I'm being rushed through the plot points.

I think the only reason they let Asami hang out with them is (1) she has a car, (2) has an airship, and (3) has lots of money. No one truly likes Asami.
