Destiny: Only one area per planet

While Bungie may have blurred the lines between their goals of Destiny the franchise and Destiny the game at times, anybody who was expecting more have their own expectations to blame.

What? I am to blame that Bungie promised me a game full of ambition and a galaxy to explore and I'm not getting that?

After playing the majority of the beta content, I am so sick of Old Russia (except for the gorgeous skybox). Really boring to explore by now and has a very little variety of enemies that constantly spawn.

I totally expected there to be 8-10 maps like that, to hear there is only 4 is incredibly disappointing. I'm going to be so sick of each area by the end of the game then... For a game that claimed to have an amazing open world to explore, I can only be incredibly underwhelmed. If they sell locations as DLC close to launch, I'm going to laugh my way into not caring about this franchise.

pls

That's where the beta fricking starts dude?

You cannot go back there in explore. Which shows you how they may be blocking things off dude.

It is so blatant that you should wonder what else may be blocked of in these early releases. IIRC they claim that this content is less than ten percent of the final game so I am just speculating that there might be more that we haven't had access to.

See Hellmouth

See Devil's Lair

Unlike Venus, Earth and Mars only have 1 strike symbol each.

Thats dosent mean more cant open up later in the game, im kinda wondering where the Playstation exlusive raid will be? im guessing it will not be part of the story so either it will open up just for playstation users or it will be in space on a ship or a station.

*Solar System, let's be fair. But I agree with you.

Just because they block it off after you've been there, doesn't really mean it should count a blocked off content imo.

If only Borderlands had some decent gunplay.
I really like Borderlands gunplay.

And personally, if the game even comes close to having the length of Borderlands, I'd be quite happy. A much grander scale would have been fantastic, but it still sounds like it could be a great, fairly lengthy game to play. As a fan of Borderlands, this game still looks right up my alley.

IIRC they said the strike is on Mars.

The scale of this game is bumming me out. It's like with SWTOR in that it's making me wonder where the huge budget went.

That's a shame - the guns feels fantastic in Destiny, but I just think the missions are boring and samey. Everything ends with a horde. The more I play, the more I realize this game is meant for people who like to be social =/

Wow im surprised at peoples reactions.

This game will still be GOTY.

Aye, this thread is full of people who were bitching in the beta thread that they didn't enjoy the game and now are validating their opinions. This news is genuinely disappointing, but if you spent some time at all in the sublevels of earth and parts with ?? monsters, you realize we haven't seen all of old Russia yet. A straight run through end to end is most likely going to be in excess of 15 hours if you include strikes and raids, which is on the long spectrum for most fps campaigns but short relative to RPGs.

Its not unbalanced at all. Dmg and stats are normalized except Iron Banner.

Whatever it is, it sucks for regular players just starting.

If they keep it as beginner unfriendly as it is, player count will plummet like that in any other PvP fps not named COD/BF.

And people don't believe me when I say this game will be a DLC nightmare. It's clear the grind will be very real and the content seems minimal at best.

It's not Halo so yeah about those supers. I love them. And it's not like they happen often enough to get a match in one direction.

It's super unbalanced. The auto rifles rip through players like no other weapon does and the Titan and Warlock supers guarantee kills due to the invincibility granted.

And you're totally wrong on supers. I easily get 3 - 5 every match (unless I have shit team mates and my team is getting decimated).

Edit: Misread your comment. But in response to it, players on a team that is doing well accumulate a lot of supers and those definitely turn the tide. I've had matches were I get killed by a super while defending a zone only to respawn and get killed by another super. Plus, the orbs of light granting meter make things worse.

(They should just remove the orbs from PvP.)

This makes it even worse for Xbox fans who don't get the exclusive Playstation strike for over a year due to the exclusivity. I mean if Earth and the Moon only have one each, that's potentially what, only 5-6 strikes total in the game?

And it will probably unlock for $1.99 after a year. Or you can get that and a cape for $2.99.

That's besides the point. You're basically trying to stretch the content that's going to be available to us now, when that should never happen in a game like Destiny. Since we're comparing the game to Borderlands a lot, I didn't have to make a second character there to feel satisfied with the length. Neither in any other game similar to Destiny.

If I'm leveling up all those characters in the same 5 planets then what's the point? PvP isn't my cup of tea either.

Then this game might not be your cup of tea
I'm not 'stretching' anything, I'm enjoying the game, not everyone's play style is the same

Some people like to rip through their gifts Xmas morning and then say 'that's it?!'

I like to open a gift and play with it before moving on to the next one

Borderlands is cool the first 2 weeks before people dupe and 'trade' all the legendary items, thus making the online broken with a bunch of people running around in God mode. Plus no pvp in borderlands

What? I am to blame that Bungie promised me a game full of ambition and a galaxy to explore and I'm not getting that?

Yeah, I don't get the reasoning on why we should "expect" them to deliver a half-assed game just because of the franchise they're trying to build. (especially after saying things like "WE HAVE TO EARN A SEQUEL.")

I would love to see tons of content. The one area per planet doesn't sound all that great but I've logged around 20 hours of game time in a restricted beta with two characters. I can see myself getting 60 - 80 hours easy out of three characters and the PVP in the full game. Throw the gear grind in there and the fact the combat/skills are fun to use and it might end up being more. That would be worth my money right there.

There is only one 'raid' though. I wish Bungie would let us free roam with a full fireteam.

You know what? I think I may wait until game of the year edition, or a we need sales edition. This game isn't that great, and sounds like none of the content will be more exciting than mmo quest design.

There is no invincibility on the warlock and titan supers. At least not on Warlock as I've been killed a plenty before fully casting my super.

Auto rifles are dangerous but scout rifles kill too. I am a beast with the shotgun.

Yep one area per planet does feel like it'll be way to small. Especially based on how damn short those missions were. Earth feels like the most lost potential though, Russia, Russia or Russia take your pick.

The starting gun is actually pretty decent for the Crucible, and the game doesn't let you play PVP until you reach a certain level (mostly so you have your super and double jumping). I don't feel like I have any other ability in the beta that's helping me out. It's mostly my OP assault rifle. :P

But of course, every multiplayer game is unfriendly to newbies.

Good thing this isn't a MMO then

And yet I keep seeing even the press still calling it an MMO >_<

Not only could it be the most popular console MMO yet, it could well be the one that turns the tide.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-21-five-talking-points-from-the-weekends-destiny-beta

Many people have downplayed comparisons between Destiny and MMOs, but it seriously can be compared without it being derogatory.

http://www.vg247.com/2014/06/13/destiny-ps4-alpha-is-it-the-first-real-console-mmo-2/2/

There is nothing "Massive" about Destiny, which would make it an MO... in this content that means it's like any other FPS these days =/

Who said there was only 'one' raid?

Did vanilla WoW even ship with a Raid or was naxrammas patched in later on.

What your talking in raids and raids in this game aren't comparable. These are 6 man supposedly so they're really just dungeons or a dungeon. Not really mmo type raids.

I want Destiny X Warframe, with No Mans Sky stuff for end game content.

And, anyone else extremely disappointed the moon had the same physics as the earth, wtf bungie? I mean, if it was 5 planets, and each had their own physics you had to learn, then that would be a great amount of content.

It would also be cool if the sounds were different, eg no sound on the moon from weapons etc, martian sound based on actual emulation of how that atmosphere would transmit sound waves, etc.

It's a fantasy space opera so it draws more from Star Wars than from Gravity.

As long as they keep content kicking with DLC/Raids, I will be ok with this.

It's curing my WoW itch, but if it fails to live up to it I might just have to get back on the crack... and I don't want that.

It looks like we get:

Earth: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 1 Strike (Devils Lair)
Moon: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 1 Strike (The Summoning Pits)
Mars: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 1 Strike (Cerberus Vae III)
Venus: Explore, 5-10 Story Missions, 2 Strikes (Winters Run, Nexus), 1 Raid (Vault of Glass)
The Reef: rumored to be a Hub like the tower with the Queen of the Reef Faction, recurring bounties

10-12 Crucible Maps including teasers of upcoming locations such as Mercury or Jupiter

Source: destinypedia and my imagination

What about the vault you can glitch into from Old Russia? It was something like Sephitaph Vault.

Does these 'hollow promises' really matter when the game is generally pure fun and addicting as hell? I know everyone has their own tastes but this isn't a game breaker for me.

Believe.

A strike would be a dungeon, a Raid is 6 people, multiple check points, multiple bosses, multiple stages

They don't label it an MMO because of people like yourself who expect it to be identical to what you can play on a PC

That's still a dungeon. Most mmo's I've played have dungeons like that what your describing. Raids are generally different. Gw1, gw2, Tera, Vindictus, WoW. you name it.

Yeah youre right. A lot of this place just looks for reasons to bitch about something these days. Anything. SMH. So mindnumbing but i guess I really cant be surprised.
