I don't know why people are so hostile to Lucina being a Marth clone.
Because she represents everything about their favorite character not getting in and people are easily confused about how game development works.

I feel like they're doing this. Will all this sudden referencing of him across the board from Nintendo, I feel like Nintendo is going to have something up its sleeve for a future Direct.Looking at the image again on my computer makes it sting even more, I wouldn't even say I was a huge Takamaru fan. But seeing him next to Link like that it just feels like he should be playable. I haven't felt like this since seeing Isaac in Brawl (and probably Smash 4...), I wasn't really upset when Little Mac was AT'd in Brawl as that design looked pretty ehh, his new redesign from the reboot though looks really good.
Please someone reboot/revive Takamaru and make him become relevant for the next Smash games, he's far too cool of a character/design to continue to be unused.
Depending on who "everyone else" is I might be mad about that.So you'd rather no one be allowed to enjoy that assist trophy if they're not a playable character?
A lot of you guys are being real divas about this. Game development has limited resources, Takamaru was a lower priorty than everyone else. It's that simple.

Samurott? It's because Smash is getting another samurai as a fighter. But with Samurai Goroh and Takamaru confirmed as assists I'll let you try to work out which other Nintendo samurai it could be
To me, it is contradictory. Sakurai split up the "split" characters to make things more clear about their role in the roster and for gameplay reasons probably. But then he keeps clones in? Why wouldn't you just have every character be as completely unique as possible, given his first line of thought?

I have been waiting for Link to have his sword beam since like forever, even if it turns out to be a shitty projectile, but being able to shoot those, aw man... *pew pew pew*
Curious to see where this goes. I'll fill this out.
I haven't gone through every post since Takamaru's AT reveal but people are still angry about this? :/
The idea of Takamaru being able to reflect projectiles just by swinging his sword sounds very appealing. I bet it would end up tied to a special move though.
Wii Fit Trainer is such an ingenious character design that I take issue (But anyone who isn't in was lower priority than Wii Fit Trainer and Lucario, so I'm kinda mad by default lol.

People being disappointed or upset with the fact their characters not making in the game is very understanding because they really want to see them as playable character or at least maining them.
That's why I have very low expectation when it come down to fighting games contents because you can't afford get your hype and expectation too high or you would find yourself in terrible shitty place when it went wrong in your mind. Like we have seen some people reacted here.
This show is so, so underrated.Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng

Chrom - Quick and straight to the point: named, shown and role specified (through gameplay) in the video.
Takamaru - Quick and straight to the point: named, shown, and role specified in PotD (many thought he would be playable).
Ridley
Not named.
Not shown (we only saw his shadow and a tail (if slowed down the clip/stop).
Role wasn't specified, his was basically called a boss character without being directly referenced, implied to be doing something on Pyrosphere.
Teasing via a PotD, shadow in the direct, trophy quiz in the direct.
Loads of Pyrosphere pictures and many clips of footage of Pyrosphere that lack Ridley.
No Pyrosphere presence at E3 or in demos, and Sakurai didn't mention Ridley.

Welp time to see what Sakurai posted today. Im sure it just another silly filler picture.

So I'm now wondering, if DLC will be offered, does the character being an assist trophy mean they won't be available to be playable?
I can see them bringing back older characters in a "Classics DLC" with Melee or Brawl characters that didn't make it in.
That's what made me go back a bit and think it might just be a special move.Being able to reflect projectiles with any old standard attack would be a bit much, wouldn't it? He would become godly in items matches if his every move was a reflector .
Yeah, it reminds me very much of that type of thing. I can't help but imagine Marth-style sword arcs, but with shine properties (minus the reflection lag).I doubt it'd be tied to a special move, it'd likely be to his attack (most likely), tilt, or smash.
Just as Link has his little thing, where he can block projectiles just by standing still.![]()
Disappointment I can understand but pointing at Lucina being a clone and saying Takamaru would be better...trying to wrap personal reasoning around Sakurai character selection logic seems like a bad idea. He can say whatever he wants about unique characters but in the end, he decides what goes in based on whatever preference he has.
I know that if Lucina wasn't announced or was shown as an AT, I'd have been disappointed but I wouldn't go out of my way to blame Sakurai or some other character for "taking slots".
Phosphora was originally shown as a regular trophy, and then months later she popped up in a screen with Palutena implying that she's an Assist Trophy. That's far from quick and straight to the point. It also took a while for Sakurai to clarify the Yellow Devil and Zelda's Phantom. We still haven't seen Zoroark in-game (it appears at the beginning of Greninja's trailer), and we don't know if the Boss Galaga is a regular item or Assist Trophy.Phosphora - Quick and straight to the point: named, shown in a PotD, role later revealed in another PoTD/screenshot.
This show is so, so underrated.
The battle theme during this scene is worthy of a Zelda videogame. The orchestrated Dungeon/Ganon's theme is great too!

Lucina is probably a special case because the whole point of her character in her own game is that she looks and fights like Marth while pretending to be him for a third of the game. She's also a fairly popular character worldwide so it probably didn't take much effort to make her a clone of him with slightly different properties. If Lucina had not been popular, or if her fighting style wasn't a copy of Marth's, she would have either not been in the game at all or been the fe newcomer instead of Robin.
Yes there is a possibility that Lucina could/will be the first in a line of clones in an effort to beef up the final roster count the same way they did for Melee, but the fact Lucina was included in the special cg for Robin and her reveal trailer leads me to believe that she has been planned for awhile as a cg trailer like that takes time.
It has its moments.

My thoughts exactly.
I mean, I can't think of any other franchise in Nintendo's stable that's had the consistent "build up" to a feasible franchise reboot. Starting from Takamaru and his game being referenced in Sengoku Musou/Samurai Warriors 3 to now finally being an AT in Smash.
Either Nintendo is just waiting for the right time to reveal a new game...or they're doing a nice bit of shopping around, hoping that some 3rd party dev takes the bait and wants to extend the offer to make a new game for them.
I remember that Lucina was explicitly stated to be an alt costume for Marth before she evolved into a clone. I think it has less to do with her popularity (although that probably helped significantly) and more with how simple it was to make her into a character.
I thought that was a rumor that was proven fake once gaffers got a hold of the famtisu and translated it themselves
The false part was a character being cut that allowed Lucina to be included. Lucina being a former costume of Marth's is correct.I thought that was a rumor that was proven fake once gaffers got a hold of the famtisu and translated it themselves

That original reasoning makes no sense. Splitting Zelda and Sheik (for example) into different characters doesn't add any significant variety to the roster, because they were already different characters with different movesets and properties already. It makes more sense to believe that splitting characters was due to limitations than anything else.

Yeah but from a usability perspective...it makes sense not to have 2 characters in one. All I'm saying is that it seemed like Sakurai was going with a very clean design for the roster as a result of the split of the "joint" characters, and then suddenly he muddles the mixture by making a clone that is similar to her counterpart again. I don't know, we'll see. I feel like we are still limited on our knowledge of Lucina.
Wii Fit Trainer is such an ingenious character design that I take issue () with anyone who thinks she's a poor inclusion.not really
How did nobody think to turn these poses into offensive attacks?
I'd even say that Wii Fit Trainer is one of the most organic characters in the Smash Bros. series as far as readily adapting the source material goes. She's a perfect fit.

His unpredictableness is one of the reasons why we love himThe rules of smash development seem to be "Whatever Sakurai damn well pleases." If any of the assist trophy miiverse messages have seemed regretful, then maybe that's a sign of somebody he'd go out of his way to elevate if given the chance.
I'll agree, I think the final list of characters to be on disc/cart was finished very early on.I don't really approved those actions because we don't really know what's going on with behind the scene.
To be honest, I have a gut feeling that they completed characters pretty early so they would have extra time to work on adding more characters/clones so Lucina could be one of most lucky characters to become deprecate character rather than being alt.
Implementing option 3 would be crazy (not sure in a good or bad way lol), I think option 1 seems more likely.I think one of the following will happen
1- Picking a dlc character prevents his or her assist trophy/pokeball from showing
2- Dlc will only be picked from characters that aren't assist trophies/pokeball, this doesn't seem as likely though as who the hell would be left?
3- Every character in the cast can show up as an assist trophy if someone isn't playing as them, which would kind of time into my first suggestion and make it not a problem
4- if a dlc character is an assist/pokeball, then if you buy them they are pulled from the games potential AT and replaced with a replacement ala if Ashley ends up as DLC then her devil minion replaces her as an assist trophy
We needed something like this to boost our spirits after today.![]()
pls forgive me
I'm just gonna go in expecting DLC to be announced down the line after release, probably after the Wii U version is out as well.I'm not entirely sure that we would have dlc characters for Smash. I think those leaks are pretty much wrong about dlc characters. Unless we notice something missing in trophy collection, then I fear the speculations might go out of control.
I can't really see assist trophies or stage hazard characters becoming playable characters later on as DLC characters because they would look weird to have both at once.
I would support cut characters dlc if we got any cut characters.
