EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

Sounds interesting but why wouldn't they release this for all platforms ?

I'm currently installing bf4 but when I try to install madden or FIFA, nothing happens. Do I have to wait for bf to completely install first?

Has this been announced to be some sort of contract like the wwe network, or can you just cancel whenever you want?

Pretty sure you can just go on Xbox.com commerce and cancel whenever if you're on the month to month for $5. Ala gold memberships.

Im honestly shocked you guys think EA will actually give you "value" for your subscription. Keep running gaming into the ground guys. Make sure you all give Dungeon Keeper 5 stars on the way out.

Lol this is joke right? You're referencing a funny post before my time perhaps?

That MS/EA partnership. Really shows how deeply invested these two companies are with each other.

$5 to try 4 full games for a month (we don't know the exact duration for games yet, right?) is definitely a steal. The 10% discount on all(?) digital content and the early access to new releases are just icing on the cake. I don't like subscription services in general but I think this one's pretty good at that price and the value you're getting.
Still not subscribing though as I don't play EA games (aside from FIFA) in general and I don't have an XB1

Just signed up £19.99 for the year , downloading BF4 atm , full games 10% dicounts ,pretty damn good for the price of a pizza meal deal

I just read in an article that the four games already in access seem to be staying. EA says they won't remove games they add to the vault. Any truth to that?

great news is that you can pay 5$ and rent the games for a month. whats not to like? if 5$ is too much for a month of games you don't want to buy anyways, then idk what is a good deal. maybe 2$

$5 is great value, I meant if they don't rotate the titles frequently enough, it's going to look like it's not worth it.

Am I the only one terrified by this 'gaming as a service' model the industry seems to be inevitably headed to? It's already scary enough "owning" games digitally (I use the term owning very loosely), but now offering games as a subscription service that can go away once you stop paying is even more disturbing. It's fine at the moment since we can still buy these games physically, but what happens once the physical option goes away? At that point I'll probably either stop playing games entirely or only play retro.

Do you have a link to that article?

I can't see them removing games, not anytime soon anyway or they'll just have a bunch of pissed off gamers and they will be back to square one.

Isn't EA saying it the best proof you could ever get? No one would know the terms of the program any better then the program's creator.

I expect the next game yo be Need for speed.
When does PvZ come out for PS4? I predict that's when PvZ gets put into the vault.

I don't feel like EA has a large enough catalog for this to make sense. Most people that want the games provided already have them. You would have to buy pretty much every EA game a year for the 10% discount to make you your money back, and then you'd already have all of the games that would ever show up with free access. This service really only seems to make sense if you play a lot of EA games, including their sports games, or really want a few days of early access to their games.

Looks like you totally skipped the free games part. FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Battlefield 4 and Peggle 2. There are free games right now once you sign up. And more will be added later.

Code received on the message didn't work when I hit redeem code on the console. Entered it on the computer and it works fine. Downloading Peggle 2 now. In all honesty it was really easy. Just sign up, pay and it pulls all your info down.

Not really, especially if folks buy DLC or really do care about playing old games they passed up.

Only looking at my personal situation, i've seen on Amazon (UK) that I can trade my copy of Fifa 14 in to them for £2.50 more than an entire years worth of the subscription... so that makes it immediately worth it to me (not that I'm trading it yet) but still

Fifa 14 and BF4 will last me until some of the trials come in, seems like decent value so far
