Dan's relationship with his dad is quite a bit different from my own.

Clearly wrestling corrupted his food tastes.

So much of Mario Party was absolutely amazing.

It suffered a bit from "Kid who invites you over to play the game he's practiced every day for 4 years." But so many amazing moments.

Negative opinions incoming!

I think I'm about ready to drop the yearly subscription and just due a month every once in a while to get subscriber content. The last year was just lackluster, with Ryan and Dave gone, and now Vinny in New York. The Patrick stuff, which I've started to watch again occasionally (though I still have criticisms with the professionalism of his content's quality) is fine, but that's not locked behind the paywall. Honestly, the only stuff I would subscribe for is Vinny's content, which is locked under the subscriber stuff (anything not a Quick Look or Patrick seems to be). Heck, even the yearly member t-shirt was delayed by how long?

And, I know in this thread I'm in the minority, but I don't like Dan, and I don't understand the hire. Patrick made sense, and though I have criticized him in the past, it was always out of respect and hope that he'd bring new stuff to the site and push it forward in new and interesting ways (he mostly hasn't, and again I'll complain about his video/audio setup). With Dan, I don't understand it. I don't understand what he brings new to the site. I didn't finish last week's podcast and this week's took several days to complete.

I don't even like the community that much anymore. Everyone is so defensive and any sort of mild criticism seems to get knocked down. Then, the whole episode with people attacking anyone complaining about the hiring of Dan was just gross.

I don't know why I'm even bothering to post this. Maybe just to get advice/comments from people who only do a month sub every once in a while and value it? Does it work for you? I guess what I'll miss the most is the segregated RSS feeds (which always sucked because I'd have to reauthenticate them every few days anyway since they were password blocked). I use Hazel on the Mac, so I can still filter stuff after they've been downloaded.

Please welcome three new moderators to the forums

Hello everyone! We have three new moderators that will mostly be concentrating on the forums: @jadegl, @mooseymcman, and @finaldasa. They've all been members of the community for many years now, and if all goes well, you'll never have to interact with them as they go about their moderatorial duties. That doesn't mean you can't say hi to them in this here thread. So please do so!
Did you just post the announcement of some mods on the giantbomb forum on GAF?

between mario party and this patrick video my subscription is well worth my money

patrick post if youre okay

i want to make sure you havent died of embarrassment

I don't understand what he brings new to the site.

He brings an incredible amount of joy and enthusiasm to things that I haven't seen on GB in a long time. He made them all play Mario Party, and the 3 hour stream was hilarious.

I'm grateful for Dan if only because his sheer zeal knows no bounds. When the Mario Party Party was nearing hour three, and Brad/Jeff looked like they were one more minigame away from snapping and breaking some furniture, and Dan lands on a minigame only to say "oh boy! This one is fun, y'all are gonna like this one!" That's a kind of dynamic that, when played against someone like Jeff who at this point is ready to drown Mario in the first filthy toilet he finds, is just classic stuff.

If you haven't watched some of the videos Dan has been in (that space ship one with Drew in particular) and can't see why he's a perfect fit for the site, then yeah, I can't help you. But this is for me, with the combo of Dan and Brad taking over the podcast with Jeff being able to be more loose and crazy and Drew really getting more experienced at being in front of the camera with the Vinny/Alex/Patrick combo, to be another golden era of GB.

Dan is so damn enthusiastic. His crazy stories are the topping on the cake.

Can't wait for the next Mario Party where he can spam taunts.

Destiny/PSO/Guild Wars 1 are MMOs in that there are a lot of people in the main social hub, but once you leave the social hub it's no longer an MMO and is more like a cooperative RPG. There might be hundreds of people in the hub itself, but you're going into missions with only a few of your buddies. It's hard to describe it with a broad term because there's not a ton of games like it. It's why usually people just compare it to PSO since that's the most well known game with that structure. The zones are instanced missions that you're going into to complete a task. Think if WoW or an equivalent MMO was only a main city and then a bunch of instanced dungeons. It'd be hard to call that an MMO because you're not running around the open world with lots of other people. Granted i've not played Destiny so i can't comment how close it is to that, but it seems to mostly share that structure.

Except with Destiny you can't even have as many people in the social hub as Guild Wars 1 or PSO. Its limited to 16 people.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The moves GB made in the last couple of months have been great. Even their new video producer seemed to have hit the ground running. GBeast taking off the way it has warms my heart as well. I subscribe to this Golden Era proclamation.

Dan is probably what would happen if you throw the other GB crew in a blender and somehow create a living being.

Best possible hire

Dan is the best hire simply because he gives Jeff a good QL partner.

I love Brad and Drew, but they just don't have the same kind of chemistry with Jeff that Vinny and Ryan did.

Jeff IS the site, so he needed someone to bounce off of.

Another for the pro-Dan camp: he watched all three Lord of the Rings movies and read half of Fellowship even though he didn't like the series, just to give them a fair shake. Meanwhile Jeff adds "They're all just... dragons... and swords, and... blech."

He's not exceptionally different from any of the other crew, but he's upbeat and fits in immediately and is already bringing new content ideas to the site. Jason is already running livestreams like a pro. Vinny's doing hilarious low-budget nonsense with Alex in a weird dark room like it was late 2008. Patrick has the opportunity to do more of what he really wants to do. Drew is still a living titan. Things are pretty cool.

Dan's a straight shooter from the Heartland.

We're almost all been bitching about a lack of enthusiasm and being jaded. Dan's the total opposite and I love the fact he's dragging the others kicking and screaming into doing stuff he's excited about - even if they're playing it up for the cameras, it's great.

Weird Twitter trolling about soccer aside, Dan is the cure.

I agree with all the Dan positivity. I think he's a fantastic addition to the site.

Dan will be in a majority of the content on the site. If you want to avoid all the content he's in you could probably easily subscribe for a month now and then and watch/download the other content. You'll be mostly limited to GB east content and Patrick's content, most GB west premium content will likely have Dan in it. You should be able to easily download all the premium east/chicago content within the month time frame you subscribe.

Yeah, same here. I was pretty bummed out with the site's content recently but since GBeast got up and running and Dan/Jason joined things have been great. I'm not ready call this another Golden Era, but I'm pretty much just a few VinnyVania episodes short of doing so.

Regarding Dan being part of the crew now, from what I have seen and heard of him so far, he's an excellent hire. He brings the jovial nature that I feel Vinny is always giving off whenever he's part of some content, and his almost child-like understanding and naivete is the perfect contrast to someone like Jeff, who I see people constantly complain about being ''too jaded about games''. And besides, Dan tries to act like a straight-man but he is quite possibly one of the goofiest motherfuckers I have ever witnessed (in a good way, of course), I swear to god that man is half a step away from being the next Sacha Baron Cohen persona.

I'll throw my vote in with everyone else who has said they've LOVED the content that's been put out over the last 2-3 weeks, it's been mostly fantastic.

I've really enjoyed all of the actual video game related content Dan has been a part of so far on the site.

It's just anytime he talks about his life in relation to anything outside of video games or wrestling that I start feeling weird and distinctly sad.

I really don't think Dan is dumb. He just lacks knowledge but able to retain it. Being dumb is being told/taught something but not able to access it when needed. He wrote a book, can carry a conversation and has WAY too much wrestling knowledge.

He is just apparently really sheltered. It's weird as hell, but also hilarious.

Exactly how I feel. I love the enthusiasm Dan brings to the site.

Not gonna lie, I find Dan all the more fascinating the more I find out about what he isn't aware of. And I don't think he's dumb, as others have said, he just somehow made it this far in life living as sheltered as he has.

I'm pretty sure Dan is an exceptionally upbeat caveman, freshly thawed from the Minnesota wild. That's the only explanation for his general ignorance but unbridled enthusiasm.

Didn't one of Dan's books have a quote from his ex-girlfriend about how clueless he was? Lol

I think he's awesome
