Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I don't really like that it contributes to Global Smash Power, not if that's the only online ranking system.

Global Smash Power only measures stuff done in single player. Matchmaking for multiplayer online will be handled separately (and probably invisibly). This information was in the April Direct.

Wasn't that an alien in Star Wars?

That's weird...

We got 2 new stages, 1 new Assist Trophy, and 1 new mode this week. Sakurai REALLY didn't want to reveal a character to steal the week's thunder.

But it's time. Bring them character reveals!

but he's a nintendo rep!
Yeah, but he probably just knows information about the demo he's showing off. Throughout the video, he's saying really basic stuff about how the controller's are vibrating and really rudimentary stuff, which is his job but also sounds like he's not too high on the insider info totem pole. Who knows, though. I also feel like there's no way Sakurai would ruin a character reveal with a trophy.

I'd really like Rayman. I have pretty limited experience with his games but I at least grew up with a familiarity of the character and I think he has some of the best moveset potential of any possible newcomer.

I love his character, but I wouldn't want him as I think we're getting a little 3rd party heavy. If he gets confirmed I won't complain, but Smash Bros. is a celebration of Nintendo's history. While 3rd party properties are certainly a part of that, putting too many could really take away from the Nintendo focus.

I love Rayman, and respect projects like Zombi U

however

Ubisoft increasingly gives me that slimy feeling I get from Jersey Shore or Keeping Up with the Kardashians, if that makes sense

This will be the only you time you hear about something NIntendo related and "too many third parties"

Cool. Nice to see an explanation for one of the modes teased in that direct.

Also lol at people talking about Angry Birds as if that game is at all original.

Man, Nintendo seems to be terrible at selecting Metroid Prime soundtracks, and I'm not just talking about Smash. Trilogy's soundtrack gallery has "gems" like Dark Temple while missing obvious choices like Torvus Bog.

from Canada
And if there's one thing we all know, it's that you can't trust Canadians. Turn your back for just one sec and they'll club you with a hockey stick, carry your body downriver by running on logs, pour gravy and curds all over you, and then ground your bones into powder... which will then be snorted by the mayor of Toronto.

At least they'll apologize afterwards.

They do have the most courteous news anchors
Glad we're on the same page. ;)

The Paper Mario stage better be on the Wii U version. Also, I hope for a Maoi Doo Wop Stage on the Wii U. Even if Maoi Doo Wop is from a handheld game.
I thought the idea was grasping for straws at first, but he really has always mentioned system exclusivity on all stage announcements except for this one. Even the N's Castle one was specified as for 3DS, so here's hoping. I also wouldn't mind it being something new, like Glitzville or Rogueport.

It's what made the genre mainstream and it seems like an obvious inspiration for this mode.

If you saw this:

Would you call it an Oreo knockoff or a Hydrox knockoff? No need to be embarrassed for them being influenced by one of the best selling games of all time.

I'd rather have a different Paper Mario stage, and by that I mean

mother

fudgin'

ROGUEPORT
Yep, I would like something like Rogueport. Using a Sticker Star stage for the 3DS made sense because that was the only handheld Paper Mario game, but for the Wii U you have a ton of choices and I want to see those utilized.

He's so fucking selfish.

...wut.

This thread is embarrassing at times.

The 3DS game is pretty much here, what do you guys expect, only Wii U shots and countless veterans? Also, the salt of the PM stage being 3DS is hilarious, nobody ever complained that a Wii U stage should be on 3DS, get over it, there's a slim chance it'll be there too.

And yes, this mode does seem a bit on the lame side, but more content the better.

SuperSah, I think the joke flew right over your head

Oh, I was totally joking! Haha, sorry, I forget text doesn't come of as sarcastic as it does in my head.

He was being sarcastic, Sah.

EDIT: lol all three of us were right on that.

Nintendo and too many third parties in a good context..... lol
:(

In all seriousness though Rayman in the lineup makes a lot more sense than someone like Snake. Rayman games appear or have appeared on Nintendo consoles with some regularity and both Nintendo and Ubisoft benefit from it as opposed to what is essentially free advertising for Konami and the MGS series by having Snake appear but not a single one of his recent games on the console and no a bad port of MGS3 hardly fits the bill as a recent game.

Today's screenshot is a lot more interesting than some of this weeks past ones that's for sure.

I hate Rayman and would probably barf if he got confirmed for this game.

Rougeport would be so fucking good. Honestly, anything from TTYD would make for a good stage. Even though I wont be buying the 3ds version, I do hope there is a Meteos stage since thats one of teh best DS games and Sakurai worked on it.

I know that. The "wut" was just aimed at Oric.

The rest is general as the salt is strong these days.

You're totally right about this thread being embarrassing sometimes. I especially love the complaints about the Paper Mario stage being only for 3DS because 1) the Wii U may well have a different Paper Mario stage, and 2) half the people who upset about it being exclusive were bitching because "the grassland is so boring!" and "they based it off the worst Paper Mario game!" Then the TTYD section was shown and they did a complete 180.

People are just determined to find something to complain about.

Rogueport would be perfect: not only does it best represent TTYD, you could have Robbos and Piantas brawling on the stage, either in the background or as a stage hazard
but it would be a walk-off so it would be #BANNED

I agree he makes more sense than Snake, but I never really thought Snake made much sense (and, before anyone jumps on this comment, I totally don't mind him being in it and hope for the sake of his fans he returns). Smash is different things to different people, but for me it's a game that celebrates all things Nintendo. And sometimes, third party characters help do that. Pac-Man is a great representation of the arcade era in general, has been intertwined with Nintendo often, and probably the only character to challenge Mario in fame. Mega Man was huge on the NES and was the biggest alternative in side scrolling to Mario at the time. Sonic's history as a rival turned friend makes him an obvious choice, as well as a 90's kid dream; it's still weird for me to see them together.

I feel like 3 third party characters is the perfect amount and the three we have are really the best you could ask for. Snake is a huge, iconic character, but most of that isn't from his time on a Nintendo console. And while there are some characters I'd personally like to see in Smash (Simon Belmont / Geno), for representing Nintendo's history as a whole, I think they've nailed their guest character selection.

I know that. The "wut" was just aimed at Oric.

Totally agree with you there. Wii U is going to be my game of choice, but I hate the lack of love the 3DS version seems to get in its shadow. And people here are also get so angry over reveals when Sakurai doesn't even need to show us anything.

Out of curiosity, who are you going to use if Snake doesn't come back?

I will buy it, and enjoy it to a certain extent. Then the lignering feeling that this will never be the the end-all Smash Bros that I wanted it to be and it had the potential to be will kick in, and I will be in an eternally long struggle between two Smash Bros games until the next one comes out. And at that point I won't be as invested in the series anyway, especially if he's cut from this one.

Basically, my hype will dip significantly. Little Mac can only heal so many wounds.

Oh man, reading this really bummed me out. I'm rootin' for you buddy!
