I decided to make another prediction roster because I realized that I included the Gematsu characters for some reason.

I just want to say that I still think we will get Ridley and a Zelda newcomer. The four trophy pictures from the direct mean something. Previously, I thought the new Zelda rep would be Demise, because he was the only good candidate. With Hyrule Warriors, though, I think Impa also has a good chance. Possibly better than Demise since Sakurai wants go buff the female count.

I agree 100%. I personally think Ghirahim has a good chance too, but I'd be ecstatic if any of the three make it into the game (Impa, Demise, or Ghirahim). A reveal trailer announcing any of those, combined with Ganondorf, would be pretty hype.
I'm exaggerating just how boring his design is a little bit, but another humanoid - especially one as bland as shulk - doesn't exactly get me excited about his inclusion and it's the one thing I'm hoping the gematsu leak is wrong about after chrom.
I'd rather they just made the monado an item and xenoblade getting a stage, because that's all people seem to care about getting in the game - the monado and some xenoblade music.

I'd say Impa and Classic Ganon are probably the two best bets for a Zelda newcomer.
An ultra greatsword wielding impa is one of the only humanoid sword wielders I wouldn't be disappointed with.
75% of the reason is because that would practically mean Ridley is confirmed, but still.

I really doubt those trophies mean anything. The only characters revealed since that lead people to believe its true were already expected in the first place. With Ridley a stage hazard, there's not really a better Metroid character to add. While we could get Toon Zelda or something, I don't think it's terribly likely.
If it meant getting Anthony Higgs though, I'd be down.
Also, remember that there was that one random leak that people almost took seriously for a second because the user predicted that we'd get Lucina instead of Chrom, so he had to know something? Even this picture thought we might get Lucina instead, it's not exactly a baffling thing lol

If the trophies do mean anything, we're getting Ridley and a Skyward Sword character.
I don't see why 2 trophies being directly related to 2 revealed characters would mean 1 of the others would be hinting at a character from a completely different game.
And I also don't think they'd be using Ridley's theme to hint at Anthony if this was all the case.
Also Ridley has never been stated to not be playable yet, unlike every other potential character that's even so much as been mentioned.

She would actually be absurd. She's probably my favorite character to control after Shulk. Took a while to get used to her, but I could see her moveset working

Don't see why, if one off characters from a long standing Nintendo franchise like Robin and Lucina can get in I don't see why a skyward sword character would be such a big deal.
Also when has a character ever been shown in game and not had the potd or whatever mention that the person isn't playable (unless it's obvious via the screenshot)?

Don't get me wrong, I don't expect either of them, but it was never explicit. And I don't expect Ridley either. You're really setting yourself up for disappointment, dude. :C

Yea, I never get the hate for clones if you treat them as nothing more than bonus characters.
Pros
- Easy way to pad the roster and add characters people might want to play
- Add subtle playstyle differences that allow a player to pick what kind of playstyle they want
- More single player content in adding some more characters to beat Classic mode with and adding some additional length to All Star Mode
Cons

Lucina didn't take Ridley or K Rool's spot or anything like that. She, just like Toon Link, Falco, Pichu, Roy, etc before her are just extra characters to have fun with because the devs had enough time to add them, but not enough to make them entirely unique. The choice is either have them or don't have them, there's no "if we get Lucina we don't get x" and I think people need to understand that better.

And I'm already disappointed with the roster, if Ridley's in, it makes it better, if he's not, I'm just as disappointed as before, so why not have a bit of hope.

Back in the Smash Direct there was footage of pyrosphere with ridley's shadow, hinting that he's a stage hazard ala yellow devil. However since he wasn't actually shown (and Sakurai is a cold motherfucker) some of us are holding out.

Dark Pit hasn't actually been shown in game yet.
Yellow devil was obviously not playable from the first footage saw of him and was deconfirmed not long after.
I can't remember what happened with Dark emperor but wasn't his first potd where he was in the background, I mean it was pretty obvious he wasn't playable.
And I don't remember what happened with starfy either, are you sure it didn't say he was an assist in the potd?
None of these characters had the amount of beating around the bush we've had with Ridley.
You covered most of the bases, but "Sutherland is too expensive" or "Konami won't let them re-use the Brawl voice clips" comes up often enough as well.
I really think the Ridley situation is being so heavily overcomplicated just because people want him that bad. And I mean, I get it, but it feels like genuine delusion if you look at Ridley's big flapping pteradactyl shadow introduced as a stage boss and think he's going to be more than a stage boss.
Believe me, I'd love to be wrong, but it just feels insane to still push for him so heavily and deny what's there just because we didn't see him in full. Gotta keep SOME secrets, even if they're underwhelming secrets like "what Ridley looks like in our video game."
Also I honestly don't get how he's been "beating around the bush" with Ridley. It was a single mention of him as a stage boss, he showed us a hole Ridley made in the Pyrosphere stage and said "Ridley made this hole," that's really been it.

Showing a trophy of someone who could have been a newcomer = deconfirmed, but showing a shadow of a character and saying "There are other boss characters" = up in the air? You could have said the same about Yellow Devil for months. He was just as obviously a boss as Ridley is, the difference is nobody wants to play as Yellow Devil.
Just saw this post. Couldn't they use your idea with this interface? Just bring up the menu over the portrait when they select the button at the top of the screen.

I wouldn't really worry about anyone except Snake, Ivysaur and Squirtle. Other than that, Wolf and Lucas maybe, but I don't really think so. It doesn't seem like cutting unique characters is taken lightly, so Wolf is probably safe, and Lucas is a semi-clone so his work is less than other characters, making him pretty safe too.
Characters like ROB and Ice Climbers people are a little too trigger happy to say are cut or should be cut. Both will return.
We can't trust anything until a reveal or release then.
I think Snake still has a chance though.
Kojima is also a cold motherfucker like Sakurai, so he'd keep it quiet.

It might be better if you just went into Smash 3DS/Wii U hype with a thought of snake being disconfirmed. So it would be less pains for all Snake supporters, and the hype would went off the chart if y'all get the confirmation. We only have 42 days to go.

Fire Emblem is more comparable to something like Final Fantasy where the cast changes with each iteration rather than reusing characters like in Legend of Zelda or Breath of Fire.

I wonder if the voice acting stuff for Snake is a bigger issue than we believe. That's a lot more work and a lot more of a cost for a character that's only sort of related to Nintendo history.
Especially if they add more codecs, that stuff will get expensive. And if they bring Shadow Moses Island back, they'll need to remake those codecs as well.

It's definitely getting to that point. At least I have the FE characters and my fall back donkey kong. Though snake always has a special place being my favorite game character and the character that got me actually good enough at smash to play with friends.
There's a difference between showing exactly what a character looks like in the game and showing a shadow with an ambiguous comment, followed by a year of nothing other than more ambiguous teases about a metroid enemy showing up and scale not mattering in smash bros which is one of the most popular arguments against Ridley.
Also yeah, nobody wanted to play as yellow devil, but it's well known that Ridley is one of the most wanted characters in the game, all the other characters who could be playable and are also highly requested have been shown in full and disconfirmed.
He is handling Ridley different from every other fan-favourite character so far, whether that means something or not is up in the air, but I want to believe that he wouldn't do all this teasing for a stage boss as he's said in the past that he doesn't like pulling that shit.
The alternative is that he actually believes Ridley being a stage boss is a worthy pay-off for all this avoidance of the nature of Ridley's inclusion and that what he said about not wanting needless speculation was all a lie, in which case sakurai is literally a dick.
