are Tess and Ellie the best representation of "women" in videogames yet? who else?

....granted Ellie is 14, she's still a more mature woman than young girl in TLoU. I haven't finished TLoU...so I'll include Marlene for all those saying she's a "better" character than Tess. (edit 4)

What do you think? Are female gamers content with the representation?

we know a lot of "bad" examples and stereotypical male-oriented ones....

what are other worthy examples of female characters?

edit 3:
In other words: Who are your favorite female characters?

no...

I mean characters who are actually respectable, good role models, not silly fodder for the typical male gamer...not "your favorite female character"

characters todays women can enjoy and look up to.

personally, I don't think lara croft (remake) is that great, but i'm sure she is peoples' favorite

edit 5: the people getting mad about me saying "best"...take a chill pill. I ask for more suggestions too. "best" doesn't necessarily have to mean "only one". I guess I should I have said "some of the best" to appease all. In my recent memory, Naughty Dog made some of the best female characters to date with this game. obviously i haven't played every game out there... I want to know who you think are great representations and satisfy your opinions. man people are critical down to the tee.

edit1: wrong topic >_>
edit2: thanks for moving it without me asking mods!

The Boss.

Strong, commanding voice. Has very specific philosophies and morality. Was one of the greatest soldiers of the 20th century, cited as one of the main reasons why the Allies won WW2.

Even though shes a solider she has femininity, but shes very masculine as well. She never demands respect, she earned it.

in b4 people who never played the game

also i sure hope people don't confuse "mature" or "best presentation" with gruffs who never smile.

The Boss is the best.
Samus, before ZSS and ignoring the dumb fanservice rewards for beating the games quickly.

-Man I need to finally get on playing Kotor 2

I feel like there have been plenty of games with the badass woman archetype and young girl that needs to be protected archetype.

A really prominent theme in the MGS franchise is that women involved with war or combat usually suffer just as much as any man does. There aren't any gimmicky deaths really, women are treated like anyone else on the battlefield.

I don't understand why people post images without saying who the person is. As if everyone has played every game in existence. Anyway, I would say The Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3 is a good example of a strong female character. Too bad we couldn't play as her.

Outside of the fourth one (and even then, they're special forces as opposed to regular mooks), pretty much every woman you kill is a major character who dies a dramatic death. It has great female characters, but I'm not really seeing how it lines up with your point.

You know why they are great? Because they're female characters that aren't defined by their sex or sexual orientation. Imagine that. What a fucking revelation. It just shows how immature this industry is when most devs are incapable of doing something like that.

One of the better examples out of Japan, no doubt.

Emily from Deadly Premontion
Loved her character. I thought Emily was handled very well. One of the better romances in games.

(ending spoiler)
...which is why I'm heartbroken how they ended the game. ;_;

I though Snow from The Wolf Among Us was fairly well personified. I haven't gotten into season 2 of TWD, but I thought season 1 had some great character development for it's female characters as well

But yeah, clearly Ellie set a new bar for AAA games.

Geez what is going on here.

First, why is representation of women something we should rank, such that there is a "best"? Why not "great examples of women characters in video games"? Representation of women is not a subject for list wars.

Second, why is "women" in quotation marks? All this seems to do is suggest you don't mean women literally, but rather as a euphemism.
