I started rewatching the Bioforge videos and I'm already falling over laughing. I'm going to have to bump up my recommendation of it to near the top.

If you've come for the fork, you'll be severely disappointed.

So I just became a subscriber, and I know on the OP there is a 'What to watch when you become premium' section, but more specifically, what are the standout single videos you would recommend to someone new to this?

Phantasmagoria
Bioforge (Starts on UPF, continued with Backflips 'n Bioforge)
Ripper
Part 1 of Daggerfall

Man, that Matrix Online finale. That was some real fuckin' seat-of-your-pants livestreaming back then. Like 90 minutes of shirtless Dave, Daft Punk remixes, and Lady Gaga preceding a 240p stream with busted colors.

I REALLLLY need to stop watching WoW videos........fuck...... I don't want to re-install it.... FUUUUCCKKKKKKK

I resubbed a day after the first WoW video. It's glorious. 5 of my friends have resubbed as a result.

... We're doomed.

edit: Wow I'm surprised Dan levelled up a decent bit.

What resolution are they playing in? This UI is so huge

I imagine 720p like all the console stuff they capture. He should resize the UI tho.

I cannot fault Dan for everything, but man, Brad's old-ass facts about WoW were really perplexing. They absolutely need Rorie on every video, maybe just for fixing that damn UI (scaling in back the fuck down, disabling the enemy hp boxes etc).

But it's frustrating because i, for some weird reason, would like Dan to see what's really good and fascinating in WoW.

There's a limit though, I really like that they're switching people out, albeit unintentionally I guess? But yeah, if you go too deep too fast, you can mess it up. He's already enjoying the experience, having someone direct or correct him might ruin it.

i dont know why youd throw someone into a moba like that

of course he didnt know what he was doing

heres a microwave, its broken and you only have 30 mins to fix it

no you dont get any instructions or lessons

I think he mentioned he had played a few games of League already, this wasn't his first match.

On the other side, that would probably lead to Rorie leading Dan way too much. We all saw how people reacted to Ian doing that in the Souls videos...

I just bought Divinity: OS to prevent myself from subbing to WoW.

The problem is, Brad's old-ass (or just straight up wrong) info makes Dan's experience actually worse than it should be. I think the game's own tutorial tooltip system (which is really comprehensive) would've been the best way to learn the game - though I realize that wouldn't make for interesting video content. And it could've been too much for Dan's patience :P

I played through the Dota 2 tutorial stuff, and then played 2 actual games and was basically shamed out of trying to play anymore.

To their credit, my teammates were surprisingly polite while they were telling me I was the reason we lost.

Obviously knowing how to "play" the game only accounts for about .5% of playing the game. Surely Dan did about as well as expected for someone with about 3 games under their belt.

You're going to be bad, but...not like that. They did have a point in that he was repeatedly doing the same thing. He ran to his death like ten times before even attempting something different. It's one thing to die a lot, but the way he was dying really looked no different from somebody who was intentionally trying to make his team lose. If you die because you don't know the characters or who has early strengths (or how to take advantage of them) you probably will lose. But usually that's because the other guy gets confident and starts making aggressive plays and killing you, not because you ran at him over and over again expecting somehow to win as he got stronger.

I think the main issue he had was he was stuck in the viewpoint of it being an RTS where you only control one unit. This means he wouldn't realize the consequences of giving a kill to another person, or the approach you need to have in the game itself. That's what the guys commenting were mostly talking about, he was not in the right mindset to adapt. If another unit gets a kill in an RTS it won't become much more powerful, so you can just try again to kill it. He took that stance in League and as a result didn't realize that every kill he gave up to the enemy just made that enemy stronger, and his attempts to fight again just made the situation worse.

It is hard to explain why WoW is so great, especially in a video like that....where Dan went into a dungeon and basically contributed nothing...

Yeah, it really is quite an intangible feeling... At the time, it was easily one of the most expansive games I'd ever played and the ability to interact with so many people in this world was incredible. Now, it's a combination of nostalgia and socializing with your friends, which is a major part of the game, once you're all raided or PvP'd out, really. Without a solid guild or a group of friends, WoW is extremely lonely.

Yeah he definitely had a lot of misunderstandings about the game because he assumed it was like an RTS. The time he said he didn't understand why you'd "waste" 8 seconds teleporting back to base when you can just die and get there anyway was proof enough of that. It would have been better all around if they gave him brief tips. Even if it was only during his death timer, they could have given him some general direction and made everything a lot better for everybody involved.

I play with my brother and some friends we have in common. One of my favourite things is still to just go out questing and exploring on my own.

Wow still looks like the least appealing game ever to me.

It's a bad game. It gets its hooks in you for things completely unrelated to the gameplay.

Basically the part in the video where Dan finishes the dungeon and seems confused that he doesn't get something - that's WoW. It's a game about hitting a button and getting a pellet. You don't play the game to play it, you play it to get the pellet, because the actual game in there is fucking terrible.

As easy as it is to laugh at Dan's challenges in the real world, I really respect the guy's enthusiasm for games and how candid he is about his shortcomings. I think he's a good addition to the crew. Welcome duder.

I definitely can understand that. At least for me it was good times with friends on "Raid Night". I just lost interest in the game mainly because it just got stale. \

Oh and PUGs! Fuck PUGs.

That's harsh, man.

I knew Dan was going mess up his first dungeon run, we all do the first time we get into an MMO, but man he really did do absolutley nothing lol. Shame that they missed the final battle. Brad would have liked the whole Van Cleef storyline as him and Jeff have mentioned numerous times that is their favourite dungeon.

Of course it does. They both rely on the exact same basic psychology to manipulate people.
I'm really not seeing the similarities. WoW operates on standard RPG conventions where you complete quests and kill bad guys to power up your character.

I think Van Cleef only shows up on heroic.
