Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

I think it's being released just not retail, digital like whole world.
The thing is retail version is PS3 and japan only but this doesn't mean PS3 retail version is the only version they will get.

I hope your right. PS4 needs more physical releases in Japan.

That being said Remaster Resident Evil 2! Don't think I'm triple dipping for the first one.

I'm sure this was talked about from Capcom Unity poster right?

Is this just a bad rumor/joke? Or can I get hype?

I appreciate that people love Dolphin but:

(a) the dolphin character models look much more out of place than in the original or in the re-master

(b) not everybody wants to play an emulator version of the game on a PC

This is an awesome move Capcom's making, and the initial screens looks good. I agree it'd be great if they went back and re-rendered, but aren't we making an assumption that much higher res renders exist? Anyways, I'm just stoked the games getting re-released in 16:9 and higher resolution. It's a masterpiece.

This is undeniably an improvement and a notable one as well.

Don't do this to us man :(
Its only going to end in tears.

I was super excited over this announcement, but then I read the details. Disappointing. A 'cheap' HD update like the RE4 one. That 'panning' thing to make the game 16:9 seems like it would be annoying as in the original 4:3 setting it was already annoying to sometimes fight zombies that were off screen. Now they're off-screen + in an invisible area of that screen? Huh.

It would be so amazing if they remade it in full 3D and could shoot in first-person (kinda like MGS3: Subsistence). Still keep the screens in their original composition (adjusted to 16:9) with no panning and then going into the shooting stance you have the option to see a 1st person view. That would be amazing, but a lot of work and obviously they're looking for the easiest way to get this 'remaster' to the public. Sigh, Capcom plz.

The game isnt really a shooter at all despite what the franchise has become. Its a big puzzle game thats meant to be finished in one sitting.

Also theres a mode where zombies are almost completely invisible too.

wut?

I'm only JUST hearing about this, but how are they handling the backgrounds?

Are they just upscaling the original SD backgrounds?

Did they somehow find the original CG assets and re-render them in HD?

To be honest, I don't think it looks that bad. However, I'm curious to see the scrolling camera in action, because as of now, I can only see it hiding enemies offscreen and making things harder than they should be.

I find it crazy that people are bashing this when people have been asking for it for a long time now. You can't win with the internet! I'm sure this will be better than playing it on dolphin at least too.

Would buy instantly...but... no wiiu version and my pc graphics card is laughable. So sad.

Sorry people but i watched the gifs and it is so sad that the diference between the ps version and gc version is vastly bigger than the difference between the gc version and this remaster. Still i would really love to have this in my wiiu library.

I don't know how is Capcom going to market this...is a DIFFICULT game, you have to LEARN how to play, you have to THINK how to solve it, and you have to REMEMBER a number of things during the game, not to mention the inclusion of the crimson heads.

Not really a game for most of the market they are releasing this. Maybe they will put a giant "NOT ON A NINTENDO SYSTEM ANYMORE, WE'ARE COOL NOW!!!" banner next to the title?

Also explains exactly why they did this so cheaply.

The funny thing is that this looks like shit on a big screen but would look good on a smaller screen. So, Wii U and Vita, the two systems it isn't on, are basically what this 'remaster' would look good on.

The original game already looks great on the gamepad, just needs the right aspect ratio:

Can't wait to remote play this on Vita now.

You're right - hacked together was too harsh, I just mean emulator based. Edited.

Yeah totally - if you thread search REmake, there's swaths of RTTPs where people are saying they'd love a current gen version. I actually didn't think the tech challenges were surmountable given you couldn't bump the resolution or change the aspect ratio. The fixes for that are awkward, but just glad to have it.

I want this, but I don't want a crappy version of it. Is that so wrong?

What wouldn't be a crappy version? Are you going to be unrealistic and expect them to completely redo the backgrounds when apparently they can't? I mean otherwise they probably would have.

Don't you want a cheap and lazy remaster of one of the best survival horror games? What and ungrateful dick you are, Capcpcom is asking money for this product and you want a certain threeshold in quality in return? HOW DARE YOU!!

I dont know about you but thinking that a year and a half into the generation and all Capcom will have to show is a port of a gamecube game and a Dead Rising game that they had to have another publisher help get out the door is kind of a total bummer.

Better then Square Enix I guess.

This is awesome. And so we're clear: there absolutely no reason for this game to be 60fps. Absolutely no reason. And the 16:9 thing... Well, I don't see what else they could do. I just remember the Myst guys expressing concern over how to recast their backgrounds in widescreen, too. It's discount.

If it comes out in 2015 I'm sure there will be some work done on it.

Calling it cheap and lazy the same day it's announced sounds rushed.

Backgrounds being FMVs that runs at 30fps sounds like a very valid reason to me.

upscaling + sharpening filter

Okay. That seems to be evident as I read through the thread a little bit. This is pretty much the best Capcom could do all things considered.

In all likelihood Capcom no longer has the original CG assets. If you wanted these backgrounds in true native 1080p, they'd probably have to remake EVERYTHING from scratch. At that point you're likely looking at a full $60 game, and I don't think enough people would pay that much for a 12 year-old game to justify a full remake.

A Resident Evil 2 remake absolutely would be a full $60 endeavor since it would be an entirely new game.

And they even offer people the option to play in the original 4:3 so I don't see why anyone would complain about cropped 16:9.

It's on PC. That's reason enough for 60fps.

So far a version with non-fucked shadows would be a good start. Those crushed blacks are absolutely horrendous and nothing to do with cheapness. It's amateur attempt at trying to make it look scarier at the expense of the destruction of perfectly good visuals

I guess you've never suffered the annoyance of a terrible Blu Ray transfer of an old film. That shit stinks everytime and can't be excused.

I thought it was pretty clear that I was being sarcastic.

Wait, the grenade launcher glitch was for REmake and not the original? I swore it was the original. Wait, did the original even have a grenade launcher? My brain is fried.

Didn't you know that many people consider games unplayable unless they're 60 fps?

I swear if this sells like shit because of nitpickers and such I will hate the internet forever. This is Capcom listening to it's fans and if it's fans don't buy this, they'll never have reason to listen again =/.

Yeah but they actually looked better than the original versions.

Did you actually play them? They were exact PS1 ports with no audio/visual differences. That cost 40 dollars.

Edit: Although RE3 might have smoothed the models out a bit because it was a port of the dreamcast version. Plus they added the feature to skip cutscenes, huzzah!

Its honestly in every Resident Evil with a freaking grenade launcher. Even 0.

The person who codes the Grenade Launcher must be like "hehehe I strike again" or something.

This is totally unnecessary. REmake still looks incredible on GC. I wish they would do the REmake treatment for RE2, RECV, and RE3 instead. Those are the games that need to be updated.
