"As for existing past broadcasts, beginning three weeks from today, we will begin removing them from Twitch servers. If you would like to keep your past broadcasts, we encourage you to begin exporting or making highlights of your best moments so that they’re saved for posterity."

Damn.. There's probably still a good chunk of old GB stuff that's only available as a twitch archive. Hopefully someone saves it/puts it up on youtube. Would be a real shame to lose that stuff for good.

He's not dumb, just ignorant/inexperienced with certain things in life.

Everyone is an idiot when it comes to something. Everyone.

I don't care how smart you think you are, there are entire subjects in the world that people devote their entire lives to that you are completely unaware of.

As a dumb example, Stephen Hawking is widely regarded as a genius, but I bet he doesn't know a damn thing about running and defending the pick-and-roll. Still, there are basketball coaches who are paid millions of dollars to teach it to other millionaires.

You would think that with the buyout that wouldn't much of an issue.

What buyout? There's no buyouts *waves hands in front of your eyes*

Seriously tho, the bigger they get the more out of control the VOD stuff is getting. Imagine the storage space they need for all that stuff.

They probably just want to move everything to youtube, which is fine as the twitch player sucks. YT needs to get 60fps working, though.

Yeah, the gravy train had to end at some point. I just mourn all the GB content that's going to be lost as a result.

Sounds like VODs will finally be available through the Twitch app on IOS and Android at some point. They should make a simple export to Youtube function for channel owners so they can maintain a public facing VOD library with minimal hassle. They could make it something that requires manually clicking a button to do the export per past broadcast which I think would be enough to prevent simply shifting storage concerns from one site to another.

Somebody should start downloading Giantbomb Twitch streams en masse.

I wonder if they have a plan on Giantbomb to export that or if they'll just say "well, fuck it, we have most of that stuff anyway".

Sad indeed.

Guessing it'll be the Fuck It option.

Was the end of year streams ever archived on the site? Someone in the Twitch topic pointed out that we already lost one when Justin.TV abruptly closed.

I don't care enough (and I also lost my huge media HD recently), but if there's a place with twitch-only videos somewhere on the GiantBomb forums, somebody should archive those.

The end of the last bombcast was like a real life Homer's Enemy.

Dan's stories and the reactions are incredible.

I'm really glad that John Drake shows up at Bombcast, he's really fun to listen to and has great chemistry with the bombcrews.

I suppose that 'no podcast while working at Sony' rule is just a rule self-imposed by Shane Bettenhausen. He should really show up at Bombcast.

Of course it's bullshit Shane made up. I mean Adam showed up on shows as well and so did Gio.

Holy moly the Hasbro Game Channel quick look will be fun in September.

Finally I can get all of Hasbro's terrible board games in one place!

Shane is perfect match with Jeff when it comes to video games. They both have encyclopaedic knowledge of retro games, the taste wildly differs though.

The video version of any of their E3 live streams/interviews isn't on the main site either (expect 2014). They used ustream for the ones in 2010 and someone have already uploaded all the 2013 streams to youtube, but it doesn't look like the full streams for either 2011 or 2012 are up on youtube.

I'm down for creating a GB Unarchived youtube channel if some more people were willing to contribute. My upload speed sucks so I couldn't do the super long vids, but I'm willing to set it up if there's interest (and a list of unarchived stuff).

Hopefully they'll just archive it on site.

Someone copy all the Twitch archives, then play them on your TV, then record them onto VHS tapes, then hoard those VHS tapes in a musky basement.

I'm glad there's a big Simpsons fan at GB now. I learned about a lot of things fro that show, too, like how Americans call glandular fever "mono".

But Dan is also the first person I have ever heard pronounce gesture with a hard G. I hope that was a joke, but I couldn't tell.

I'll be happy to contribute for this.

That would be coo and also much more convenient to have all the videos in one place. I'd be happy to contribute.

Downloading a video, merging it and uploading somewhere is trivial (for people with bandwidth and hard drive space). I would do upwards of 50 videos if I was given a list.

Compiling said list is the hard part.

And so begins the fall of twitch. Archives are 99% off the content I consume, a huge loss for broadcasters, many are losing the archive of their show that kept people coming back to binge watch etc.

I assume draconian takedown notices and content restrictions similar to those on YT are coming as the next step. Can't wait to be unable to watch my favourite streamers because Google and GEMA don't see eye to eye.

Sad.

Well, I will always approve any song about Panchi. Now I just need to wait till the songs are available for purchase on iTunes.

I hope there does eventually become a legal way to get that album because the only way to get it was to join her fan club. Which I would have done, but you need to have a JP mailing address. There's less than 500 copies out there. You know, legally.
