I had no idea that Miyamoto came up with the idea of Pokemon starters. Hell, I hardly had any idea he contributed to Pokemon at all.

Someone should just compile a list of neat Miyamoto factoids because I find them super interesting.
Miyamoto swallows live cobras for breakfast.

Where was this?
[My favorite story of the latter is an apocryphal one in which he dropped in on Creatures Inc. during the development of Pokemon and casually let slip that players should have to choose one of three starter monsters, the other two of which they'd never be able to get on their own -- a design element that would instantly give the franchise its viral appeal.]

No idea of the veracity of this claim.
Maybe he got confused one morning, and that's why Snake isn't in Smash anymore.
Ice cold.

I want a list of small things Miyamoto has done against a list of things Iwata has done, they're both brilliant.

So that's where he gets all these toxic philosophies from.

As crazy as that interview sounds, that description of Samus's character is perfect.

God I hope we get back to that. Prime Samus could not have been defined any better in those games.

Retro must either be doing MP4 to resolve that cliffhanger or DKCR3 to bring the series back full-circle with the kremlings.

Either one will be great, both would be amazing for the WiiU.

Yeah, we need a DKCR3 if only because of some of those concept designs in TF. I don't know if we need one right now though.

Yeah, she was pretty much perfect then. I always thought of her as like a space Brienne from Game of Thrones.

Yeah, I think the (unfortunate) initial reaction to Tropical Freeze means DKCR should probably be put on the backburner for now and let MP4 take center stage.

But it would be criminal to not have a third DKCR game to mirror the original trilogy, hoping we see MP4 next E3 and then DKCR3 2-2.5 years after that releases, depends on how many staff Retro has.

A twist: they've been contracted for Castlevania. Considering their experience on the DKC and Metroid series, it's a perfect fit.

If DKCR3 and MP4 weren't so heavily requested (more the latter, though) I'd love a Retro castlevania, but the other two come first.

What if K. Rool was responsible DKCR 1 and 2 the WHOLE TIME!? Lurking behind the shadows, the genius mastermind!

I would actually love that even if some would think it was some annoying copout.

I'd love DKCR3 to take place immediately after TF... like, the opening cutscene to DKCR3 started with the end of TF, with K. Rool and the Kremlings waiting in the wings to take over DK Island but couldn't due to their cold blood and the fact that the snowmads froze the island - complete with DK64 style cutscenes.

God damn I want the Kremlings back.

I remember reading Miyamoto came up with tapping the Z button just as you leave a jump in Excitebike 64 for that extra boost in height.

And yet Sakamoto went through the process of approving that scenario.

...Other M still eludes me to this day.

Actually, I think Extra Credits had a really good episode on it. Sakamoto might have actually had the right idea with samus, it's just that all of it translated poorly when it went into creating the game. It was handled by three different entities (Sakamoto, Tecmo, and the CG team) and telling the story through internal monologues was probably the worst way to tell the story he wanted to tell.

I mean, there's still a ton of inexcusable stuff, but it's worth mentioning that stuff gets lost in translation all the time.

Aren't there like a million articles about the making of the game that say that Sakamoto had painstaking control over every aspect, especially the cutscenes? I got the impression that everything was exactly as he imagined it to be.

I remember an interview where Sakamoto was responsible for all of the writing, but basically passed it off to the CG production agency, who was a third party to even Tecmo.

At the end of the day, Sakamoto signed off and approved everything that showed up in the final game, so most of the blame rests on his shoulders.

I'm sure at some point, even if he was unhappy w/ it, he couldn't scrap, cancel, or delay the game, so he might have just said 'screw it,' and released it as is. That or he had no clue.

That's neat. Any idea which ones?

We don't know which ones, at least as far as I know, with the exception of Lugia (which makes his connection to the Kanto birds make even more sense). The generation 1 index numbers correspond to various gen 2 pokemon when transferred to Gold/Silver/Crystal, but the index shuffling between generation 1 and 2 makes the connection between the two iffy.

An interview with one of the lead programmers (It may have been Shigeki Morimoto) confirmed that there were indeed 190 to start off with.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he did that with cutscenes a few times too, because they didn't fit his vision.

I remember that there was an interview with Retro Studios about working with NCL on the Prime games, and they had mentioned that they wanted to start one of the games with Samus hunting down a bounty. But when the NCL (presumably Sakamoto, although it wasn't stated) office heard about the idea, they said that Samus wouldn't really hunt down bounties, she's more of a superhero.

But then in the manga that Sakamoto apparently oversaw, it starts with her cashing in a bounty. So either Retro was making stuff up or the idea of "what samus is" is incredibly inconsistent.

Nintendo needs like, 50 times more developers than it currently has, there's practically too much you can do with all the IPs they have.

They definitely need new dev studios, they're sitting on a lot of money and aren't able to churn out as many games as they should be. Most first party would be ok because of 3rd party, but even capcom is denying them REmake when they were the original system to have it. The problem is that having that many studios costs money over time, so if they're not fully utilized or they end up making bad games, they are a money sink :/

To be fair, the idea of a noble bounty hunter always struck me as weird and a bit creepy given the history of bounty hunters in the United States capturing people who escaped from slavery. Doesn't stop me from enjoying things like Metroid or For a Few Dollars More, but still weird.

WOOOOOOO!!! I´m going to try Smash Bros next week!!! Nintendo will have demo here in an event. I´m glad I bought tickets because they are sold out!!!

er, bounty hunting in general is exciting. The bounty hunters that go after bad people are considered more heroic, the ones that go after the heroes/innocents are considered villainous and the chases those provide make for engaging stories/concepts. The basic notion of chasing after someone who's on the run isn't considered inherently positive by most.

She seems more like a mercenary than anything else.
