Pep isn't mad about the result, he is mad about the fouls and ref performance. I may be biased but seriously, the MLS All-Star players were way too aggressive for a simple friendly. People could have gotten hurt and that isn't the point of any of this. Some of those challenges were extremely questionable and the ref decisions were disappointing most of the time because they let a lot of things slide just because of the flow of the game, which I don't agree with.

That isn't to say that I like Pep at all, or his strategy for this game, or his attitude. It also isn't to say that the All-Stars didn't put in a good showing, I was impressed by the MLS players. That said mid-season form vs pre-season (including the majority of starters that haven't trained since the World Cup ended). It was also sort of our weaker side at the start. I would say that the home team had a lot more going for them in this match-up.

Speaking of not liking Pep. Ughhhh. I get why he likes possession football, but we didn't even hold it that much and we were completely open to attack the entire game. We played the whole game in our half, or at least it felt like it, which is disgusting. Where is the chance creation? You can't go for just the unmissable goals, Guardiola, it doesn't work like that. Also, on staying in our own half, what the hell was with our defense? They ran all over us in midfield at times, and they were going through us and passing long over and over again and we did nothing like that's fine. No the hell it isn't. Possession football is ok if 1) you have the ball, 2) you are attacking, and 3) you can actually fucking press and defend. I love Bayern but that was some of the worst defending I have seen in my life at times. And our passing was also atrocious. I know it is a friendly and all but I have some low expectations based on our obvious faults right now.

I really hope he proves me wrong.

Edit 2: There we go, added my last bit.

Schweinsteiger once broke his collar bone and missed 3 months on a challenge like that. Pep ' s right to be pissed.

He can't help being a dick though.

I agree, it was pre-season friendly/exhibition match featuring a jet lagged team trying to sell shirts in the US and maybe get some fitness. Some of these MLS idiots were behaving like it was a cup final or a derby.

I think if there was something on the line, the team would have put far more work into it. Most of the players looked lazy, you could tell they considered it a friendly. All credit to the MLS players though, they came in wanting to showcase their skills and progress and did a pretty solid job overall, minus my earlier complaints.

Also, of all the bad commentating, there was that one point at the end when Schweinsteiger was hit and Pep/Stark got on the ref and Porter's case that I thought was interesting. They were saying that it seemed like Pep and Porter had discussed some of the terms for this game about fair play, given by how Porter would apologize for his team members and raise up his arms while he slid back. I think that going in it was supposed to be a good friendly scrimmage sort of game and the reason Pep was getting so frustrated and livid by the end was because his players were at a big risk because the All Star team were playing like it was the cup final against their rival. I understand him in that case, but he still should have shaken the guys hand.

Yeah, seriously I didn't blame him for being miffed. But while there was a risk with the MLS reckless play happily no serious damage was done.

That's honestly a terrible window.

If It was Moyes going after Verm and De Jong United fans would be livid.

Not really. Maybe if De Jong was our only midfield signing. I've been in support of this signing from day one. He had a great season with Milan, has played for LVG, and would be cheap. He's better than Cleverly, Anderfat, etc... and can break up attacks better than any of our midfielders. He is the kind of squad player we need. Players like Cleverley, Anderson, and Fellaini add nothing to the team, both in quality and style. De Jong should be bought regardless of United's intention (that should clearly still be there after Woodward opened his mouth) to buy a star midfielder like Vidal or not.

As for Vermalean I still don't want him as I want a defender who I know will be class, but he's a better signing under LVG than Moyes because of the purpose he fills on the team. What's the point of Vermalean under Moyes if he doesn't have his cbs playing it out from the back?

Schweinsteiger literally got off the plane at noon and had to play a "competitive" match at 6pm.

Bananas if you think it's okay to just going in on a challenge like that.

Because Moyes would know fuck all to do with them.

Verm, nobody here is that excited about. But De Jong is better than what we got right now. And he will adapt to 352 very quickly which is a plus.

aw, poor baby. When does the season start? A week, two weeks? If your players cant handle one competitive game against some Americans and aging europeans then they should give it up.

Playing a tough, competitive game is what most, non bitchy coaches want pre season.
Also, if he wasnt ready to play, Pep shouldn't play him.

Pep has to be the most grating coach in world football next to Mourinho.

Just never liked De Jong and never will.

I agree he would be better than Clev, Fellaini and Anderson but I want quality in CM and CB not minor upgrades.

Sounds like it's Pep's problem if he is playing Schweinsteiger before he is fully fit.

If he doesn't play the big German stars people would've criticized him for not giving paying fans who shelled out $200 tickets a fair shake.

The shit? Pray tell which manager wants tough competitive pre-season games after a World Cup year. I bet Prandelli was all like, "I wanted a tough tune up game before the World Cup" right after Montolivo broke his leg.

Doubt Schweinsteiger plays much in the Super Cup anyway. Team doctor's asked for 3 months off for him specifically.

He's not just a minor upgrade on those shit players. He was great for City in his last season there and City letting him go was a mistake at the time. He had a great season for Milan, one of the only players that wasn't shit.

He should be bought regardless to strengthen the overall squad. It's dead weight like Cleverley, Anderson, and Fellaini that should be sold. His signing should have nothing to do with the Vidal transfer.

An ideal transfer window should be:
De Jong
Herrera
Star midfield signing
Shaw
Reliable CB

Sounds like Bayern need to toughen up, I kid I kid :p

Great game all around.

We played a great game against an amazing team. The win is big for the league and huge for American footy in general.

We are a rough league no doubt.

MLS players spend almost EVERY week hoping on planes and travling all across America. Its not easy flying to LA, then back home, then to Montreal, then to Dallas, then home, then to Chicago etc......

Not to mention the weather...Have fun flying 5,000 miles in 2 weeks and going from playing in the rain of Seattle to 110 degree heat of Dallas...from the blistering summer days in Southern California, to the freezing winds and snow of Colorado as the seasons change..
The travel wear and tear, the weather and climate changes almost every week....
These guys are warriors!

Agreed.

Some of these MLS players were playing a fucking game, and made a challenge or two that while fierce, weren't inherently dangerous. They didn't get away with it either, as they both got carded. Maybe Bayern shouldn't have taken the game so lightly. It's a competition.

If City gets Falcao, who would even challenge them for the league title?

I thought whoever owned City would eventually attempt to profit.

I stand by the idea that while you can play with less physicality, there's really no such thing as a friendly.
A game where you are interested in match fitness and training then. Results don't really matter, the fact half the teams get changed at half time clearly shows this.

Regardless of this fact, there's still no reason to snub the coach of the opposing team the way Pep did. Completely classless. Occasionally poor challenges happen, and like I said, neither one of those challenges were especially poor. He fucking WAGGED HIS FINGER in the direction of Porter.

Like, fuck everything about that. I haven't watched the post game press conference yet, but I've heard that when Pep was asked how Caleb Porter performed as coach he claimed he didn't know who he even was. WTF?

My childhood hearing doctor was arrested this morning for being accused of using hidden equipment to spy on women at a private hospital. Also has been accused of making indecent images of children....Jesus Christ.
