Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Just a little reminder:

We still have a week and a half to go until voting stops, but make sure you cast your vote before then if you want to be heard. Here's my post from last time to make sure everybody is on the same page.:

Quite a few of you have already partaken in the questionnaire to decide NeoGAF's favorite Smash character; only three days in and I've already received over 130 responses! I really wasn't expecting such a wave of responses, and as a result I'm going to implement a few changes to the voting process.

With everyone only voting for one veteran character, there's been a lot of "clumping" of characters with the same amount of votes (meaning, there's multiple characters with 7 votes, multiple with 4, etc.); this would lead to a pretty boring countdown to have constant 4-way ties being announced. It also seems a little lame for people to only show their support for a single character, as most people have at least a few favorites they like to jump between. Therefore, I'm going to let everyone choose their top 3 favorite characters to vote for.

How this will work is in the new questionnaire I have linked below, it now asks who your first, second, and third favored characters are. Depending on which rank you give the characters you choose, they'll get a different amount of votes. For 1st, the character will get 3 votes. 2nd will get 2 votes, and obviously 3rd will get 1. If you don't have 3 characters you want to vote for, feel free to leave some of the questions blank. Hopefully this will help make a more accurate and interesting final results list. Most wanted newcomer is still limited to 1 choice.

Now, if you've already participated in the previous questionnaire and you don't participate in this one, your vote will still be counted. If you really only care about one character, don't worry about doing anything as I'll keep tallies from the previous poll. If you have already voted and want to add 2nd and 3rd characters to your choices, come vote in this one; there's a choice in the first question labeled "I've already told you!" that will let me know you've already voted. I will still double check all responses to make sure no one is double voting. In addition to that, please PM when you've voted. Going forward, I'm going to require you to PM me to let me know you really did vote and someone isn't just putting your username in the questionnaire. A little silly to think someone would do that one a for-fun poll like this, but this is the internet...

So, all that to say, I think this will end up creating a more exciting countdown as we approach the Japanese 3DS release date. The last day to vote will be August 16. Starting the next night, I'll start revealing the winners (20th-1st) every POTD. This will mean 1st place is revealed on the last POTD before the Japanese launch. Hopefully, this will add to the hype leading to launch (as if we need any more) and help determine who is the most popular character in the SmashGAF community.

Looking forward to seeing all of your choices! Everything so far has already been very interesting and surprising.

Yeah, I too was lost on the title until I saw this screenshot.

What Mario Party is this from? I'm kind of surprised, because modern Nintendo titles are generally very well-localized and not Engrishy like that.
I think someone said it's from Mario Party 4. I'm a journalist by trade, so the Engrish bothers me as a professional grammar Nazi (although I reserve the right to make hasty typos online).

EDIT: Ah, ninja'd while typing this

speaking of Mario Party, we're never getting the old style back are we....

Supposedly they confirmed at e3 some of the boards in the new MP for WiiU will be in the classic style

What do you mean by "old style"? I haven't kept up with the series.

Mario Party 1-8 all had the basic concept of mini game every turn to get coins, move around the board to get more coins, attempt to get to the randomly placed star and buy with 20 coins , most stars wins

Mario Party 9 replaced this with a streamlined system where everyone shared the same space moving together on a linear path, coins and stars were dropped and replaced by mini stars and mini games now only happen on certain spaces or at the half way/end of the board. It kills a lot of the replayability and means you play way less mini games then you did in past MP and the mini games are supposed to be the meat of the game.

Mario Party Island Tour for the 3ds was basically wii party mario edition with each board having unique rules and objectives, Only they made the boards super short because its a portable system and every board is almost completely luck based.

Old style gameplay where you just have Stars and Coin with the Stars moving around the board. The newer games kept introducing gimmicks like completely linear boards with fixed Star locations and other shit. The worst of it was when Mario Party 9 opted for a new system where all the characters moved together in a car.

oh jesus christ this sounds horrible

Two thoughts on Samus here;

- Reading the scan log on Snake to find out the best and most efficient way to eliminate him. (probably super missile to the face.)

OR

- Waiting for authorization from the guy who's been dead for years now to do anything...

Ahaha, this is too good. I love that Rush is randomly tied up there as well.

Oh, neat! Who do you write for?

But yeah, I hear you. I'm a copy editor by trade and part-time "game journalist" (whatever that even means anymore) on the side, so stupidly bad spelling and grammar in games (and most anything else besides Internet forums, really) annoys the shit out of me. I feel your pain. :P

Mario Party 4.

I played a lot of it back in the day. Those Koopa kids were so weird...

;_;

I wanna say Mario Party 4?

I think it's 4. Mario Party 1 & 2 were the only ones I got really into.

Ah, okay. Thanks. I never really liked 4... I mostly got into 1, 3, and 6.
