Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Here's an interesting workaround:

You don't see the Zapper. Instead, you see crosshairs. Kind of like Palutena's Auto-Reticle. :-)

This would also be truer to the game, where the player offscreen is shooting, and the dog simply reacts!

I think that would be perfect for DHD, but as an AT, not a character. He'd pop up in the background, and the crosshairs would roam the stage firing at people. After ever hit, DHD would do that stupid laugh (not perfectly true to the source, but I think it's close enough.)

I saw one called Ice Spiders on their years ago. Main character's name was Dash Dashial.

Oh man, I remember that one, too. There were a bunch of people trapped in a school bus on a mountain somewhere and the spiders were just pounding on the doors and shooting webs or something.

EDIT: found a clip of this masterpiece. Warning: blood, giant CG spiders, and really bad acting.

THE HELL WAS GOING ON LAST PAGE?!?

Was Scizor announced in a direct or something? If not, then what I saw quoted over and over is..... ugh

If anyone is cut, I'm suiting up Arnold-in-Commando-style and army-crawling through every vent at the Bandai-Namco building. I'll infiltrate their defenses and, while aiming a weapon at them that looks suspiciously like a potato but they don't want to take any chances, I'll force them to patch those characters back into the game. Then, I'll have a bare-chested brawl with Sakurai on a catwalk over a steaming vat of acid, before returning to my womenfolk and fellow countrymen here in Smash-GAF.

So, I assume you're already preparing for this since there's a pretty good chance Pokemon Trainer is cut?

Eh, if Squirtle and Ivysaur come back, I'll count that as Pokémon Trainer.

But if not...

Could you have at least have waited until they finished the game? :(

Yup that's it LOL. What a great night that was laughing at that movie lol.

Two things I noticed last night while looking through all the translated Famitsu scans again:

- I don't know if this has been widely discussed before, but it seems like the match after a Smash Run isn't always actually a fight! One of the screens in this week's single-player mode article shows a 4-player race up a hill, where you have to jump over obstacles and such and you still get the benefit of all your collected power-ups from the Smash Run... run. That's interesting...

- This might (and probably does) mean nothing, but in one of the other articles' introduction (I think the Little Mac/Rosalina & Luma one?), the text says something like "This game has over 30 characters!" It's of course a translation so the original context is probably lost, but hopefully they meant "so far" and not "in total," or we really could be looking at a situation where a ton of Brawl's roster has been cut. Not what I'm thinking at all, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Let's try to survive Weekend GAF.

1. Favorite characters you don't find fun to play as:
2. Favorite playstyles on characters you just find "meh":
3. Characters you already love with playstyles you enjoy:
4. Characters you grew to love in general because of their Smash inclusion:

1. Mario, Yoshi, Samus, Link, Wario, Olimar, Sonic
2. Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch, Falco, Wolf, Marth (sorry, they do nothing for me)
3. Peach, Donkey Kong, Bowser, King Dedede, Pikachu, Jigglypuff
4.. Sheik, Zelda, Captain Falcon, Kirby, Lucas, Diddy Kong, Pit, Ike, Zero Suit Samus (Many of these characters weren't on my immediate radar. Before Melee, I didn't know Zelda/Sheik was someone to root for and not just a cardboard cutout to save. Before Smash 64, Kirby was just a blip on my radar. I find Pit a great character now. And I never dreamed ZSS could happen since Zero Mission.)

1. Bowser, Falco, Link, Mewtwo, Ness, Samus, Snake, Sonic, Yoshi
2. Ike, Mario, Marth, Meta Knight, Peach, Sheik, Wolf, Zero Suit Samus
3. Fox, Diddy Kong, Jigglypuff, Kirby, Pikachu, Pit, Squirtle, Toon Link, Young Link, Zelda
4. Captain Falcon, Ice Climbers, Lucario, Lucas, Mr. Game & Watch

I just noticed that Geminosity even shopped Jenny's arms so the skin is blue like Ivysaur. Dat attention to detail. <3
Heh thankies. Pretty quick and dirty photoshop but I figured it needed at least that much... also that's a very special building in the background on fire :P

no, just a typical animal-related derail on NeoGAF

I know it's weekend gaf, but yuck. Who just lets the devil bite on their finger like that?

A bee landed on my shoulder while I was at work today and I punched the shit out of my self.

Beedrill Fainted.

Wait how did all this Duck Hunt Dog discussion start up over the last few days anyway, was it some random leaks?
On Smashboards, there's a rumor the mods are backing, in part because the one who started it correctly leaked mock-ups of character colors that weren't confirmed until E3. This person says the remaining newcomers include Duck Hunt Dog, Koopa Crew (your choice of Bowser Jr. or one of the Koopalings, piloting the Koopa Clown Car, which is the fighter and thus one set of hit-boxes/animations), and Dark Pit, in addition to what's left of the Gematsu leak.

This ought to be interesting to think about:

2. Favorite playstyles on characters you just find "meh":
3. Characters you already love with playstyles you enjoy:
4. Characters you grew to love in general because of their Smash inclusion:

1. Yoshi, Meta Knight, King Dedede
Like some of the others who have responded, I have a bit of trouble with Yoshi and his weird double jumping. I also don't really like the feel of his normals. I hope that the Yoshi posture revamp makes his moves feel more substantial.
Meta Knight's mostly-made-up-for-this-game-even-though-he-has-a-full-moveset-in-Kirby attacks bug me and I just can't enjoy playing as him that much. I'm also not a big fan of how his multiple-hit attacks feel.
I really wanted to love King Dedede but everything about him feels clumsy... maybe rightfully so? I don't know how much it bothers everyone else, but it seems like the power of his hammer is only really apparent in his smash attacks. Those attacks where the head spins, in contrast, just seem so flimsy. I also didn't like how laggy and unsatisfying his projectile was and I hope the new Gordo-only attack fixes this.

2. R.O.B., Ike, Snake
I wasn't excited about R.O.B.'s inclusion when the final roster came to light, but after playing as him I warmed up. That gyro projectile is ridiculously satisfying to hit with, and I like the laser charging as well. All I'd change is his side special (to something not awful) and his aerials, since his non-neutral aerials are telegraphed to the point of ridiculousness.
I never heard of Ike before Brawl but he's a blast to play as because he's a heavy character whose attacks actually feel satisfying to land. It feels like there's a huge amount of power in his blade, which is fitting, and even though he's slow as molasses I can't help but pick him on occasion just for the sheer fun of it.
I knew about Snake before Brawl but never really had a soft spot for the character, but I love Snake in Brawl for his projectiles, especially that grenade that can be used to anger everyone to maximum effect in FFAs.

3. Lucario
I can only really answer "Lucario" to this one. I love the Pokémon and I enjoy his moveset and powering-up gimmick. I'm very much looking forward to his gimmick buffs and playing as Mega Lucario!

4. Zelda
All I have to say about her moves is "Din's Fire." Oh, and that sweetspotted aerial I can never hit with. I've never been a big Zelda fan but I've given Zelda more attention since playing as her in Smash and I've grown to really like the character.

The combination of "muh retro spot" not being filled + disconfirmation of Takamaru, Sable and other "prime" retro candidates + reasoning that Duck Hunt was pretty much the only other series prolific enough during that era of Nintendo with nothing to show for it in Smash.

Edit: Also what Neiteio said.

Lol the Bamco building.

Speaking of which, I just remembered that there's a Konami building over here.

Forgot to mention, the Smashboards rumor also had Dr. Mario as a Lucina-style clone, in addition to Dark Pit

Oh yeah, I recognized it from the start of the April Direct, haha. Great detail!

This was confirmed from the very beginning, wasn't it? I seem to remember when Sakurai was fist showing off Smash Run, he was saying things like "be careful when collecting powerups, because you never know what sort of event will happen." I think they were just restricted to FFA battles in the demo.

Either way, I think that's really cool. It's the next best thing to Kirby's Air Ride 2 or a port of the original on 3DS (samurai PLS)

Well, we already have, what, 38, 39 characters confirmed? So I don't think they're skimping on the roster. However, I do think we should brace ourselves for more cuts than just the three that everyone seems to be expecting: Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake. Given all the newcomers we have, and the fact that Sakurai announced early on that not everyone from Brawl would make it this time, we should be ready for more cuts - at the very least, Lucas and Wolf.

Not saying it's definitely going to happen, but we would do well to prepare ourselves for it so we're not too disappointed if it actually does.

Yeah, it was random leak. Rumor is that Smashboard moderators are trying to make fake leaks in order to tell difference between legit or fake rumors.
Wait, so now we have to consider rumors about the rumors trying to weed out rumors? What if the rumor about the rumors weeding out the rumors is just a rumor to weed out rumors trying to weed out rumors? Huh? What if it's that?

If we get Tropical Freeze music in Smash then it would be incredible.

Sadly, the game is probably way too recent for that. I'll take DKC2 then.
Tropical Freeze has my favorite soundtrack of any game this year.
You should check out the Tengami soundtrack for more David Wise goodness.

For what it's worth, I came up with a hypothetical roster that reconciles the Smashboards rumor and the Gematsu rumor. Weiner Whistle then did a mockup. Here's what it looks like:

I don't think that particular move has precedence in the source material. Kind of like how Captain Falcon never performs a Falcon Punch in F-Zero. Or Wii Fit Trainer firing energy balls, lol.
True true

There are three game modes in Duck Hunt. The first is one duck at a time and the second is two at a time.

The third has you shooting at clay pigeons, those discs the dog is throwing in the picture.
Clay pidgeons, used to practice shooting accuracy.

Gawd, it's been too long

Oh wow, so the discs are the clay pigeons in Duck Hunt? Nice!

Yeah, even though it's a mockup, it gets me excited for when we finally have the full character select screen on our TV, and we can take a Miiverse pic and look back on all of the fervent speculation :-)

god so much Mario reps they almost take up an entire row.

Indeed. Plus I just like that roster a whole lot. Ness and Lucas back, Shulk as a newcomer, and all the awesome newcomers we have so far. That, plus I've always dreamed of finally being able to beat up the Duck Hunt Dog so I hope he's true too.

The lack of Metroid reps is just pathetic. If Dark Pit gets in before someone like Dark Samus I will quit this series.

is it weird that I really want Duck Hunt Dog

and not just for the reason of beating the shit out of him
I'd love Duck Hunt Dog. And Koopa Crew. We need more colorful animal-based newcomers.

So many of the newcomers so far are human or human-like: Villager (male/female), Wii Fit Trainer (male/female), Mega Man, Rosalina, Little Mac, Mii Brawler, Mii Swordfighter, Mii Gunner, Palutena, Lucina, Robin (male/female)... and if confirmed, Shulk.

1- That was confirmed a long time ago, even in the smash bros direct we saw footage of "climb the tower" as a possibility at the end of a smash run. It's actually one of my bigger concerns for the mode. In Kirby's air ride everyone started out in a generic red mage car that could do everything but was great at nothing. The game would give you a hint as to what kind of challenge you'd get and that could cause you to jump into a car you may not like very much because it's good for the challenge. In Smash Run you pick your character before the match even begins, so if you pick someone like Bowser and you get a challenge like Climb the tower you were boned from the very beginning.

2- No we're not going to see a mass exodus of cut characters, that's just like people who read to much into the "until now" statement in regards to Ness being cut because Lucas was confirmed.

For what it's worth, I came up with a hypothetical roster that reconciles the Smashboards rumor and the Gematsu rumor. Weiner Whistle then did a mockup. Here's what it looks like:

Except that you can't combine the rumors like that, especially when the smashboards rumor says certain characters are cut that you didn't cut. You basically just took Brawls roster minus Snake and Pokemon Trainer, added the confirmed newcomers, then added the newcomers from both leaks despite the fact one of them flat out says "Ice Climbers, Lucas, and Wolf are gone"

Someone here compiled a list of rumors from Smashboards, from different people, vouching for the DHD/KCC rumor, but saying what they saw had X character, or Y character, or Z character. It was theorized here that if there's any truth to some or all of them, different people may be seeing different builds that deliberately omit parts of the roster, perhaps to control leaks. So if you add them all up, you get something like what I posted.

But yes, I fully acknowledge it could be false. It's just an attempt to see what it'd look like if reconciled.
