How would that even work? Let's just say someone makes a random fake leak that says

"These are the final newcomers to be confirmed for the new Smash games A B C D E F G and here are the remaining veterans to be revealed H I J K L M N" and it's 100% made up

Now I someone who actually has legit info make leak that will eventually end up being legit that goes

"The rest of the characters to be revealed are A B C D E and the remaining veterans to be shown are H I J K L also M & N have been cut"

My real leak is very close to the fake leak you made to try and weed out real/fake leaks

Honestly this rumor that smash mods are making fake leaks to tell the difference between real and fake leaks is a worse rumor/leak then half the rumor/leaks out there for Smash 4.

If it is true then the Smash Board mods are even dumber then I thought, and I didn't think much of them to begin with.

I don't find the Dr. Mario part of the rumor hard to believe. If Sakurai was keen to pad the roster with Lucina, I could see him doing something similar for Nintendo's best-selling franchise by bringing back Dr. Mario. It's a low-effort addition with series precedent that could also be an opportunity to better distinguish the character with a few more tweaks.

That would work, except that people piggyback off the successful leaks (by which I mean basically just Gematsu) and not Joe Average's Exciting New Leak of the Day.

There are about a dozen other clones more likely to pad the roster than Dr. Mario.

Also, lack of new Donkey Kong reps is criminal.

Oh, I don't disagree with that.

I just don't like him from any other perspective. He makes Evil Cole look inspired. If he's more fun to play than regular Mario, you should make regular Mario play like that and then cut that idiotic variation.

Why not bring back Pichu as well then? Or Roy, it's not like Sakurai is afraid of doing a clone of a clone we got Wolf in Brawl

Seriously though Dr Mario would be such a strange character to bring back from Melee, especially over Mewtwo. If you're going to pad out Smash 4's roster with a clone of Melee you're going to bring back Mewtwo and just straight up make him a Lucario clone, wouldn't that be the ultimate irony

Well, we already have, what, 38, 39 characters confirmed? So I don't think they're skimping on the roster. However, I do think we should brace ourselves for more cuts than just the three that everyone seems to be expecting: Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake. Given all the newcomers we have, and the fact that Sakurai announced early on that not everyone from Brawl would make it this time, we should be ready for more cuts - at the very least, Lucas and Wolf.

Not saying it's definitely going to happen, but we would do well to prepare ourselves for it so we're not too disappointed if it actually does.

We have 36 if you count the Mii Fighters as one character, or 38 if you count them as three (as Sakurai does). And yeah, I agree - I too am starting to think there will be more cuts than just Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Snake. But when did Sakurai come right out and say not everyone from Brawl would be back? All I recall him saying is that he theoretically wants to bring everyone back so as not to disappoint anyone, but that they are facing difficulties doing that with certain characters (Ice Climbers?) because of the 3DS's hardware limitations. I don't ever remember him confirming anything about Brawl characters either way.

Very nice. For what it's worth, while I don't really care for Dr. Mario or the Koopa Crew, I would be 100% happy with this roster.

I'm already pretty damn satisfied, though, and even if we found out the characters we have right now are it, I'd be mostly very happy. I think the bare minimum I need at this point to be 100% happy are Ness, the Ice Climbers, Jigglypuff, and the Chorus Kids... but of course I want as many other characters as possible so less people are disappointed/more people are happy.

Smashboards was going wild for it because the mod team said they looked into it and were vouching for it.

Koopa Crew, btw, is said to be the Koopa Clown Car. You choose one of the Koopalings to pilot it, but the hit-boxes are the car and remain the same.

Seen in the last three NSMB games, if I recall correctly.

The mods are backing him up because he correctly prdicted several alternate color palettes before they were even shown at E3.

Which anyone in their right mind would understand probably came from the guy playing the E3 Smash demo as opposed to having access to the full game, but why use firm logic?
 
All this discussion about leaks we all know are bullshit is kind of annoying to be honest. Can we get a newcomer/veteran reveal already. It's been nearly a month and its clear we are all super antsy :/

Also, even though I didn't like playing as Snake I do hope he comes back. A very unique addition to the roster and I'm hoping company politics doesn't result in him getting the axe.

I was under the impression it was a fair bit before, and that the mods did follow-up beyond that? At any rate, I'm just presenting Smashboards + Gematsu. If nothing else, it has me excited to see the real final character select screen. :-)

If I recall correctly, though, wasn't it revealed that they were vouching for it because the leaker presented them with shots of Bowser with a new custom palette, uploaded prior to E3? If that's the case the leak really doesn't have a leg to stand on in my opinion.

The "bandana dee at SDCC" also got some steam because a guy pm'd a mod saying "it's not Chrom that'll be shown but Lucina" before Lucina was confirmed, and that got blown the fuck out. A mod confirming something that only he/she saw in a PM means jack.

you can actually see (what i'm 90% sure to be) a koopa clown car trophy on the verrrry far right of the trophy collection portion of the e3 trailer, just for a split second (on mobile so i can't post a screen)

i dunno if this makes the whole koopa clown car character thing any more plausible or implausible but it's there
