Legend of Korra Book 3: Change |OT| SCHEDULEBENDING

What if Korra dies in the end?

She's had no scenes in the show, nor any impact, since the opening episode. In fact the Gaang outside of Zuko this season haven't had an active role in the show's current timeline. Having her die because "look you remember her from ATLA?" would be a cheap away to get an emotional reaction out of die hard fans, and also cheapens the characters this season because you'd be basically saying "we can't use our current characters to get a reaction out of you"

If anybody should die for our emotional response, it should be Mako.

edit: LAWL dat reading comprehension

This is my big, bold prediction for Book 3: Korra joins the dark side (Red Lotus).

There are 3 more episodes of the season. How are we going to have enough time to see our heroes overcome the Red Lotus? Tenzin and the Air Nation need more time to develop, the Earth Kingdom has been hugely transformed overnight, and there's much more to do.

The lower class of the Earth Kingdom having more freedom is going to be seen as a good thing for the very beginning, and Korra might naively buy into the Red Lotus's plans when she sees that the Earth Kingdom (at least temporarily) seems better without their terrible Queen.

Korra being trained by the Red Lotus, learning hilariously overpowered bending, and finally going through a redemption arc thanks to friends and family that want to turn her back would be a really good string of stories for the final Book. Korra will get to learn about true balance and come to her own conclusions on morality.

you're probably thinking of Katara

Korra joining the Red Lotus would IMO feel like the ending of Book 2 with Aang being killed, and coming back in Book 3. It was a pretty dark ending going into the final run of episodes.

Tonraq, Zuko and Lin. Look at all those nice world leaders you have conveniently gathered here. Shame if something were to happen to them.

It's funny how early on people were wondering how they could top the spiritual embodiment of all darkness in the universe as a villain when it comes to threat level.

Now the question is, how will they top the only character who was able to actually kill someone on screen?

Tarrlok already did.

If this season ends in a nicely wrapped package, villain gang wise, I can see Red Lotus being the focal point next season still.

Korra should kill Zaheer. Aang was a pacifist, so it made sense. Past Avatar's have used killed and used violence. Korra is from the water tribe, and is aggressive as hell. There is no reason she should be against killing someone, especially when they are someone that won't stop.

That said, it all depends on where they go with the Red Lotus. I still don't trust Zaheer (and think there is more to him then what we know). But seeing moments like Bolin bonding with them, makes you think they aren't so bad (especially considering, they haven't actually killed anyone so far. Well, unless some of the White Lotus guards died when being thrown off ledges).

Yeah well, Aang probably killed a bunch of people in Book 1's finale when he was the Water spirit. Psh, so much for his pacifism.

Probably also killed lots of soldiers in The Northern Air Temple, probably took some lives in The Avatar State episode, etc.

Aang's pacifism is sorta over-exaggerated. His problem in the finale was with basically committing a murder, rather than causing an unpreventable death by way of self-defense/uncontrolled avatar state.

Shame that didn't apply to that buzzard wasp.

Book 4's villain will be Amon. The explosion melted the entirety of his face, but because the portals are open, Koh showed up and merged with him and he goes around taking off his mask to kill people by staling their faces, which means no airholes.

This raises an interesting point. Does everyone just accept that Amon is gone? There were no witnesses - as far as anyone knows, two terrifyingly powerful waterbenders are still on the loose.

I think the fact that the anti bender movement died off as fast as it did after his defeat made people expect the whole thing went under.

Such an awful job at ending that arc. There should have still been small pockets of resistances show in the first few episodes of season 2 just as a last "dying breath" of the movement.

If its any sort of consolation the Platinum Legend of Korra game has some Equalists attacking the Air Temple Island and korra
Its supposed to be set between Book 2 and 3

In cartoons, characters are fairly resilient to damage. In the finale, a bunch of fire nation soldiers fall out of the airship atleast a hundred feet into the air and into the ocean, several, if not all, of them being in armor. These men should either be dead or drowning, but they're just floating and making friendly quips. This is a general thing though. You do not get hit from a rock, even a small one, going at high velocity and are okay from it. A single hit from any earth bender should leave bones broken.

This makes death hard to determine. Realistically, yeah, Aang had murdered several dozen men already, and in light of that, Ozai's fight would not be different. Even if Aang didn't want to murder the guy, Ozai's aggression would have made it self defense, so I don't think that's a good defense.

I think we're just supposed to assume that he's not killing anyone in these fights. He even says in the northern airtemple after causing a massive landslide, that 'They have them on the run". How he'd know he didn't kill anyone is beyond me, but I think the line itself is supposed to convey to the audience that he didn't.

I've been saying since the first season of the Last Airbender that airbenders could totally just suck the air out of their enemies making them completely OP. It's nice that someone had the balls to do it, but god damn that was dark to actually see.

Now on #teamZaheer cause of that.

they totally could do it, though if the queen was a decent bender she could have attacked him and interrupted him and what not.

just like water benders can potentially blood bend and tear people apart from the inside out

a very talented earth bender could potentially strip your body of needed minerals...

and a fire bender can just burn ya lol.

if you wanted the story to go a lot darker you could introduce some seriously disturbing bender assassins lol.

See, so much potential for some really fucked up shit in that universe. It's awesome. Though I'm glad we only get very rare glimpses of the darker side to bending, because it has such a powerful and shocking effect when it does happen.

Anyone else expect the bringing down of the wall to be a little more epic?

With what they showed... I somehow forgot what show it was and thought that it should probably have killed someone.

Anything more... grand... I'm not sure they could have written that off so easily.

it's not really much different from drowning someone with a globe of water, as seen in the previous episode (well, she didn't go that far)

And yes. Just how far is the Y7 rating able to stretch? My goodness.

Gravity Falls has been doing some crazy stuff too, especially with the latest episodes. It seems you can get away with a lot with a Y7 these days. Definitely not complaining though.

Anyways, I loved the Red Lotus parts of this episode, and even Mako and Bolin had some cool moments. But I honestly didn't care much for the desert plot. Despite the fact that they were stranded and stuck with a mister, the whole situation didn't feel very dire. When the old Gaang got trapped in the desert, it seemed like a truly desperate situation. Here, it just seemed like they were giving Asami something to do. It wasnt bad, but very much a side plot to fill some time and push Asami's engineer role. I guess that's better than her just being a chauffeur like in Book 2, but I hope she gets to do something more significant in these last few episodes of the season.

I will be pretty pissed if they completely bench her during the final episodes...again.

Not really, when you got OP powers like Lava bending. Lava bending + mind fuck/nuke bending is pretty silly. I know all bending can be "broken" and "OP" if they were taken literal (or taken at realistic value). BUT, I think the side bending of lava + psychic boom shots, is pretty fuckin dumb.

I guess I can excuse Lava, since it would make sense that if you are a rock/metal bender, you could cause friction and create lava. But lol Ba Sing Se's wall could have been taken down easily by lava bender or nuke bomb lady.

I meant in terms of animation. It felt a little weak.

We also finally got to see the dark side of airbending. I think the alternative would have been filling her up with air until her lungs burst.

Oh got you. Yeah...they could have done better shots right? It was all a little too casual. Then again, I guess I'm just used to this series being very casual about things that were important in the old series.

So much emphasis was put on the great Wall of Ba Sing Se. And it's just casually toppled in 3 seconds by Lava guy, with a completely flat shot.

I believe the great wall is still up and that lava guy just destroyed one of the rings separating the upper and lower class people.

I was going to say, it seemed like an inner wall, and not the outer (since people immediately ran through it). Seemed like the wall around the Palace. Just saw others saying it was the main wall, and rolled with it. But yeah, when I initially saw it, I didn't think it was the main wall (Ba Sing Se is fuckin massive. Just to get to the palace, takes an hour +). So it wouldn't have made sense for them to walk outside the palace, and get to the outer wall.
