As wolf characters go, Rika > Koji > Tohma >>>>> Matt

I was just so sick of Matt's shit by the end of Adventure. Even if it did make sense for his character. His little hissy fit in Dark Master's saga was the last straw for me.

Bearmon and Kotemon, from Frontier's only movie.

They was also available in the GOAT PS1 Digimon game, Digimon World 3.

If they get rid of armor digivolving (no idea what the level was), none of the season 4 digivolving where there was no idea how to tell if they were mega or not, and get Mimi and Joe going out then it should rock.

Also, for the final episodes, get better writers and animators!!! The last battle in Season 1 and Season 2 were kind of let downs in terms of a final battle. Season 3 did it alright tho.

I believe all 10 legendary spirits in frontier are all mega/ultimate level. They are OP as heck.

And ReiGun knows whatsup with the wolf characters. Ruki and Renamon are too good.

Only other friendship I really enjoyed after first season was Tamers cast where Rika, Takato and Henry were great.

Yeah I think the Tamers cast was my favorite with the main 3. Rika in particular is one of my favorite Digimon characters period because of how much her character develops. In the beginning she's a little shithead, but she really realizes how awful she is to people and steps up. And by the end of it she just plain awesome.

I wasn't a big fan of the supporting characters in Tamers though. They weren't bad exactly but just...nothing special about them (Jeri, Kazu, and Kenta). I really wish there would have been more Ryo and I also wish there would have been more about Alice. I know she was just there for a reason but it would have been really cool to know more about her.

Fantastic

Armour Digivolution is equal to Champion level. It's a one-step process, the Digi-Egg just acts as a means to branch off the Digivolution from the standard Champion form.

I wish they did more of them. I wanna see what an Agumon Armour Digivolve looks like.

I hope they keep Digimon "dark".

I feel like bringing Tai back implies a more middling, balanced tone along the lines of Adventure 01/02.

I mean, I'm just assuming this is Adventure 03 until they say otherwise.

Oh god, what if it's 50 episodes like the good old days?!

LTTP guys but Tamers is the best! Adventure is up there though. Not 02 of course, hope this one fixes some problems and retcons the hell out of 02's ending.

Wonder what Davis and his buddies will be up to if the focus is on Tai's group. Also NEED TAMERS SEQUEL!

You do know that Digimon is never linear

The anime makes it difficult to see that - when it was all the armor digimon versus Golemon, he kept swatting them away like flies. But for some reason, an actual Champion level was able to kick some ass.

The only bizarre exception was Magnamon - kickass battle but it was just a random ultimate level armor digimon...

I like how Joe's wearing the St. Hermelin uniform. I seem to recall in the show that Joe actually lives much further away in the city then the other kids, but I might be mis-remembering. If true than it kinda fits, since Mikage is a long way from Inaba and Iwatodai.

Where is this from? Also I think it was mentioned in Adventure when TK and Joe were trying to find people in the real world that he moved but I'm not certain.

Bob's Burgers

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. He and the other kids all used to live on or near the same apartment complex when they were little, where they all saw their first real digimon battle depicted in that first movie. Later, most moved away and *I think* Joe ended up clear across town or something. Eh, been a long time so I'm not clear on the details but for some reason that really stuck at me.

I think the reality is that the various stages are more of a loose guide for power levels rather than a strict rule. I think Tamers is the only series that tries to have a modicum of "balance" between the Digimon (which makes sense, seeing as it draws heavily from the card game.

I think Armor digimon are weaker than Champion/adult. It was a workaround the Dark Towers, which blocked regular evolutions. Also, only ancient digimon could armor-digivolve, so all the adventure 01 mons with the exception of Tailmon and Patamon could utilize that workaround.

Magnamon was a result of a miracle egg and is a Royal Knight.
Probably one of the weaker ones though.

Heh, just watched the Magnamon episode last night. Honestly got a little teary. Ken is one of my favorite characters for sure.

I've watched Digimon Adventure, 02 and Tamers. Out of those 3 I like Digimon Adventure and Tamers the best, especially the first one, Digimon Adventure, is really good. I was surprised when I first saw it.

One of the better drawn episodes in that season for sure. I also loved episode 23 where Ken is in deep sleep trying to put back his memories together. Its probably my favorite episode of 02. Ken was the best thing to come out of that show.Kanashimi 2 is soo good. It is an unreleased track unfortunately.

Speaking of unreleased OST, I hope with the new season they release the official Piemon's theme and Concierto de Aranjuez

Saw "Genesis of Evil" again. I definitely agree with you, I-hate-u. I think it's one of the best, if not the best episodes. So good. Sending Ken to Primary Village is touching symbolism.

Cody's really being a little bastard with the whole Ken's friendship thing. Matt has nothing on this kid like seriously wow.

Never thought I'd get to see these guys again

I can't believe that Tai (and apparently everyone else) is coming back! PLEASE let Joshua come back. He is the definitive voice for Tai. The rest of the original cast too. They all had fantastic voices.

I'm getting all nostalgic. I remember the game on the PS1 that I would play all the time and my old digivice (that I regrettably don't have anymore), my old Wargreymon, the card games I would play with my bros, getting up on Saturday morning to watch this on Fox Kids and seeing the adventures... *sigh*. I even remember wearing goggles all the time.

I'm on Cloud 9!!

I'm surprised some people haven't seen the movie. It's on YouTube so here's a link.

Digimon: The Movie

Dat DigiRap

This is still one of my favorite movies ever. Despite the loads of edited out scenes and changes (which really shouldn't have been cut), I love it. The animation and VA is fantastic. It's a shame the original soundtrack was changed but I still love the 90's songs they put in there. One Week and Going Digital especially. This movie still gets me fired up and sends chills down my spine.

I really hope that the art direction for the new adventure is similar to the movies.

I'm definitely going to marathon through the series. I've seen all of 01 (it was fun rewatching it when the box set was released), 02 and most of Tamers. Frontier was really the last entry in the series I watched. I wasn't able to finish it (don't remember why) but I remember enjoying it. Is the series on Netflix with Adventure and Tamer?

Quick thoughts on the Tai x Sora or Matt x Sora bit; I think Tai and Sora had a better chemistry despite whatever the creator said about the "plans" they originally had. If that's the case, they failed on epic levels. It wasn't just western fans who were surprised by this. If they had written it well then maybe it would've worked.

Since they likely won't retcon the pairing however, it'd be cool to see the girl Tai ended up with brought in. As long as she's a great character and not just a satellite love interest.

Regardless of what happens though, this is gonna be a digital adventure.

I totally agree. Digimon the Movie is seriously one of the best movies I ever saw as a child and it still stand up to this day. Truly a masterpiece.

I've been rewatching adventure and seriously the Sora x Matt thing makes no sense at all. Tai and Sora has such a great relationship, closer than any other of the digidestined in that series and the movie again had hints of that pairing but all of a sudden, in season two, Sora starts to go out with Matt.

My only conclusion is that the directors were smoking crack cocaine. Even the VA expressed her surprise. I'm hoping they either retcon that shit or amend it.

I need to watch the movie soon. I'm sure I saw it one way or another as a kid, but I really don't remember it.

I hope for whatever the new project is we can get all the old actors back for the dub and the main writers for 01/02, too.

I can't believe I'm so excited about this.

Honestly it's all good and well if they initially planned for Matt and Sora, but they failed in execution so hard (02 could've been a great opportunity to flesh it out but alas). I mean I could've been down with Matt and Sora if it has been written well but it was just so our of the blue and badly done.

They should've just rolled with it and changed their plans. It'll be interesting to see how they handle this.

Don't forget to watch this when you get around to it.

The experience wouldn't be complete without it

Just finished rewatching the English dub of Digimon Adventure 02, I find myself checking the changes on the wiki now. Like how the dub cut out Angewomen bitch slapping LadyDevimon even though they didn't cut it out in the first season.

Still really enjoyed the series even if the ending was bullshit/last battle was bullshit.

Also wish TK/Kari got together still, I mean I know the Dub had more hints than the JP version with them but even still, those two had more screen time together than many other folks plus the crests of Light/Hope complimented each other well.

They just seemed well together but nope, nothing ever happened with them.

Matt/Sora was also out of the blue but I like to think that a lot of things happened off screen since we didn't see the original chosen as much in the second season so who knows.

I do hope the dark ocean stuff is covered again since that storyline just got dropped so quickly even though they kept bringing up the Dark Ocean a lot until the end of the series. They could also bring back Daemon since he was apparently 'sent' to the Dark Ocean.

Ah well, I do wonder what this new series is going to be about now. >_<

I wanted to ask you, or any Savers fans; was it explained why Masaru could only obtain a DigiSoul from punching Digimon? Also, how can he punch Mega/ultimate level mons, being only human?

Because he had guts. Not joking that is literally the reasoning they gave.

I need to watch the movie soon. I'm sure I saw it one way or another as a kid, but I really don't remember it.

WHAT

the movie - well, specifically, the first two acts of the movie - are essential, the memories will come flooding back for the Adventure 01 segment

good thing it all seems to be up on youtube

I just got around to finishing Adventure 01. Man, not only has the sub made me dislike my childhood English dub, but it has also made me like the Japanese OP much more than the English one. The child in me shakes his head.

As for returning to the season, I like it alright, though they seemed to rush some of the character development down to the last second (though I am still impressed with the character drama they actually attempt for a children's show). Also the final confrontation was rather underwhelming. The show itself ends at a with a kaput. I certainly am happy I revisited the show though.

Heh, a part of me wishes I was watching through the eyes of a child so I could speak kinder about most of the visuals. I know the likely circumstances behind them, but it was hard for me to shake off when watching. Nonetheless, I'm partial to a number of the Digimon designs and the cast was amusing. Tai's still great and my favorite from the group. Mimi was more of a man killer than I remembered! Jyou was more...more overall than I remembered him and so on. There were many little revelations I had and they added up to an experience akin to watching it for the first time.

Two inquiries:

A. I never watched through much of 02 and it has been a while. If I'm only concerned about watching a good Digimon season (and not knowing every character/Digimon/event that shows between 01 and Tamers), is it worth watching? Going through Season 1, I actually like Hikari's character, so I'd hope an older Hikari would build upon and test her character development going off 01. But seeing as it's anime, there are no guarantees.

B. To get the movie order straight for the first three (The original movies, not the English chimera of a movie), it goes: Adventure 01 television series > Movie 1: Adventure Movie > Movie 2 Our War Game > Adventure 02 series > Movie 3: Hurricane Touchdown?

sorry but Tohma is the best just because he gets Gaogamon. Rika is second though.

personally I really like Digimon Adventure 02, and if you haven't seen it I would give it a watch. A lot of cool digimon are in it, and IMO the story is better than 01.

Veemon has some great digivolutions.

edit: I think the timeline is more like this
Movie 1: Adventure Movie > Adventure 01 > Movie 2 Our War Game > Adventure 02 (start) > Movie 3: Hurricane Touchdown > Adventure 02 (end) > Movie 4: Diaboromon Strikes Back

One of my biggest disappointments of 02 is how little Hikari and Takeru are utilized. They might as well not be there at the end. Episode 13 makes me sad to this day.

02 is not a good Digimon season (imo), but some aspects, like Ken, make it worth watching (again, imo).

Thanks for the post. Very unfortunate to hear them put in the background like that, I had assumed at least Hikari would have had considerable focus. I suppose I'll still watch 02 if it's worth the view though.

sure thing, I guess our opinions are pretty conflicted lol

Kari and TK do have some emphasis put on them, but not nearly as much as the two real protagonists Davis and Ken.

Ken is a pretty great character though. Davis is kind of Tai 2.0, maybe a little dumber. I think he's likable though.

If anything I would just watch it for the cool digimon fights.

As with all Digimon threads, let me just say that Frontier doesn't deserve half the shit it gets and was actually pretty cool.

Agunimon was a boss.

No problem. Who knows, you might like it more than I did. There are a couple episodes where Hikari is the focus.

Daisuke is redeemed by having Veemon and Ken. If he didn't, his character would fall as flat as Miyako.
Iori gets a pass for having an inkling of a character arc.

I'm being way too negative though. The first half is pretty enjoyable. It's the last half that kills it for me.

I ignored it because when it was on I thought it was dumb that they turn into the digimon and since there was five of them they might as well be Power Rangers.

Hikari wasn't that much in the background in 02, I mean all the sea of darkness stuff was with her, they just didn't go further with it
