Toph vs Ghazan? come on Toph beats him, maybe not as easy as she would defeat any other bender but she would win in the end.

There's a wee tiny difference between arrows and knives, and lava. I mean, sure, they're similar enough in terms of offensive capability, I know, but I think lava edges it, if only a teeny bit.
Katara was pretty good with it too, particularly in her fight with Pakku. While maybe not AS creative as the other two, I felt Azula's techniques were the best. Using firebending to turn yourself into a rocket is the coolest firebending technique as far as I'm concerned.

Using firebending to propel yourself seemed like one of the most obvious things they should be able to do, like it should be taught in firebending pre-school.

The amount of power you'd need just to lift yourself off the ground would be insane. It wouldn't be practical in most situations.
Remember Jeong Jeong also did it.
That's pretty much most inventions and social movements and things in general. People don't do something for the longest time, then wonder why they never did that thing in the first place.
My dream Avatar fight sequence ever since The Puppetmaster was some sort of waterbending fight in a cactus field where the waterbender would explode the surrounding cacti around his/her enemy.
He can stand on a platform that floats on lava. That seems like something a top tier bender could easily do.

Sucks we didn't get to see him fight more. I still say most underrated bender in the series, mostly because of his very little screen time.

They're shitting on Bolin a bit too much for not being able to metal bend to not give him a cool unique ability at some point before the season ends. I hope it's not metal bending because if it really ends up being "hey you just needed the right motivation" then that's boring. I do hope it ends up being lava bending, because then he wouldn't be one in a million, he'd be like one out of two.

Metal bending would absolutely feel silly and contrived at this point. I mean, I guess arguably he still hasn't had a good, long set of training sessions with a master (interruptions and such), but still. Lava bending seems to be where the arrow is pointing.
I particularly like the recent Stakeout review, in which Doug complains about the "formula" of Red Lotus and Team Avatar fighting, and then talking.
Those pesky one-episode-long formulas making season three so dull!

Considering that they haven't mentioned how he's really good with his aim again, I doubt they'll go with the sniper thing as others were suggesting earlier in the season. That seems to be basically "hey he can't metal bend but this episode he had good aim let's not make him completely useless".
Lava bending would be useful since chances are they can't have a 'bad guy' have a unique bending when they're shitting on another person. Combustion man could have his combustion by himself on season 1 because they explicitly made clear that he was super secret special dude, plus everybody else was pretty decent at their bending.

Mako can already lightning bend, that's already a pretty special thing in firebending. Not our fault the writers forget he can do it.

Also I just watched this episode but I can't remember any memorable or "big" (aka budget heavy) fights. Which doesn't bother me at all since I loved seeing Korrasami and the Queen. This episode was packed with story.

Would take too much time to go back, but it's hard to listen to someone talk about something, and then just come out it from such a different perspective. I have no issue with difference of opinions. But at least on a forum, you can discuss them. A Vlog (or podcast) depends on the person knowing what they are talking about. I just found their view points of the show were always off (missing the point, or coming at it from a bizarre perspective).
And the brother is really fuckin annoying in these.
Maybe everyone has learned to redirect lightning so nobody uses it in fear of getting self-owned.

Yeah I saw the new episode but that seems like it's really bland for an advanced style. Everything but water (unless you cound ice) changes their form.

It's not that they got screwed as much as nobody has explored it. They were peaceful people who detached themselves from the world's issues, including war and battling and everything that really is necessary to come up with different methods of using your skills. Then you have to consider how OP airbending is when used in an aggressive fashion though. Look at Zaheer, he's the most aggressive airbender so far and he's been able to kick the ass of plenty of benders, including a waterbending master.
He also used the removal of air from lungs. Airbenders only really have the spirit walking thing, but that's only for very select really spiritual airbenders and honestly it has little use in battle outside of spying maybe. Let's hope Zaheer isn't killed so he can come up with specialized air bending. Or if not him, Meelo.
To be fair there are plenty of ways to use bending in an amazing way. I can think of five different ways to use Waterbending that haven't been in the show.
Actually bending of one's own blood, they don't even need to be a blood bender to do this, the act of just having a cut on your finger and drawing blood from that would be an interesting concept, and the fact that such a simple thing would be able to fix internal injuries if two people shared the same blood type could be amazing.
The use of Saliva and the liquid in our eyes is also never explored, Waterbenders have the ability to make their entire bodies weapons if used effectively and we know bending that comes directly from the body requires little to no movement.
Or how about hollowing out the ends of daggers filling it almost completely with water, (Not all the way, since the water still needs to be able to move and not be stagnant) and controlling knives like that.
Why haven't we seen a lightning bender that uses powerlines and other area's to their advantage?
Why haven't we seen more people that use animals along side their bending, why not have an animal completely immune to fire, that have giant pours. And let itself turn into a giant ball of fire if it swallows a Fire Bender.
There are a lot of unexplored bending potential in the series. Considering this Season more than any shows, that bending isn't completely limited to movement or the rules that have been set up before.
