Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

I don't know why they don't just do Mii moderation. Like, register up to 10 or so Miis to your NNID then the mods will check to see if they're appropriate. If not, they're removed from the list of Miis usable with Randoms. Seems simple enough.

Custom Moves are only for games with friends I believe. So a character that's all custom is the same. You could give the Palutena argument but her look isn't customizable.

Yeah but I thought the main problem with Miis with Randoms was their looks and the fear of them being offensive and shit?

I mean, if it's the random moves thing just give them defaults like with Palutena.

Mario Kart lets you go ham with your Miis.

And making you play as a default (visually) mii takes away the magic of Miis

Huh, then I don't know why they don't want Miis with randoms online. Like I said, if it's balancing that's the issue then just do what's been done with Palutena and give each class a vanilla moveset.

Edit: I'm not talking about making the appearance preset, just the moveset. How would the differing costumes and appearances be a problem?

this is an awesome update and all. i just wish we could take these streetpass hats with our miis in "for glory" mode online...

we can still use our miis in "for fun" right?

Oh, what I'm saying is I don't think they want you to use ANY customizations with randoms, be that movesets, or miis which you customize their movesets, face, height, and weight.

Your Mii thickness, and height determines playstyle in addition to whatever type of Mii you're using.

That's silly if true. I thought the big barrier was the unpredictability of the custom moves and offensive Miis (Hitler, etc). If not then I don't see the problem with people using run of the mill Miis online.

Come on Nintendo, my Miis are tame.

On the issue of weight, I don't see how it's a huge deal. But I guess that creates a little inconsistency. Still, I don't think it should prevent them from being playable with randoms. But whatevs.

He posted a pic early and in a roundabout way confirmed Meta Knight. This is no more confusing than indirectly confirming Game & Watch in the Pac-Man trailer.

Honestly, in both cases I feel like Sakurai didn't want to reveal either because they're secret characters or something, but he realized most people probably know they're both coming back so he didn't really give a shit about keeping them secret or something.

Like, are any of you guys surprised that Meta Knight is seemingly returning? This was a weird decision on Sakurai's part but he's probably in either way.

That is unpredictability. A tall ass fat mii fights different than a tiny skinny mii, even if they're both brawlers or whatever.

I'll do some bad math in my head.

You Have Mii Gunner, then inside of that are say 3 different possible heights, and then within that are variable weight classes as well. That's you randomly going up against one of 9+ different Mii Fighters, and that's just with one of them. It could be difficult for some people to know who they're fighting off first glance, and with the philosophy of making everything more simple, it would go against that online.

Edit: Weight is a huge thing. Imagine you fighting a Metaknight who's as heavy as Bowser randomly, XD

I mean, I get it, but I guess the differences between Mii weights doesn't strike me as anything that huge. But I do understand why it is the way it is. Not a problem, I'll be playing with SmashGAF so I won't be with randoms that often :)

Oh, yeah :P it's as big or small as individuals make it. I'll rarely play with randoms most likely and be playing with most of smashgaf.

Seriously, though, I don't know why people are taking this as evidence of anything. Meta Knight's chances are perfectly fine.

Actually he cut Kirby and King Dedede and added Dark Meta Knight, Galacta Knight, and Yarn Meta Knight -- much better Kirby series representation IMO

If that is Sakurai's way of confirming a character without actually announcing them, like Mr. Game & Watch in the Pac-Man trailer, then I assume both of them are gonna be unlockable.

I've taken a closer look at the Japanese Miiverse, posted presumably by Sakurai himself rather than a lame translator. The quote reads
きょうの一枚。 「こんにちは! 宇宙戦士、サムスです!」 「メタナイトでーす。大・参・戦!!」
Which is loosely translated as
Today's picture.
"Hello! (unreadable kanji gibberish), I am Samus."
"I'm Meta Knight. Great war/battle.

I'm not a hardcore follower of everything that is Japanese smash news, so it could be that 大参戦 is the Japanese "Challenger Approaching". Yet I think the translator is harassing us.

(I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but I'm slightly too lazy to read back.)

Well that answers my question of whether we'll get the Nintendo Streetpass hats or not. Guess I was wrong to assume no.
Well guess that means people will get monkey as a Rhythm Tengoku rep after all.

We haven't had a bonafide filler pic in a while, have we? The PotD was on a roll before today.
How is new info filler?

Huh, that's similar to Game & Watch. I'm guessing meta-knight is in the game, I doubt Sakurai would cut him since he's from his series and had a unique moveset.
