holy fuck that's the first time I ever noticed that it doesn't have Avatar at the beginning of the title.
Pretentious..? Okay, if that's what you want to call it. Never saw it as that, but eh, to each of their own.

When I first heard season 1 premise of anti bender establishment THAT was what I had in mind for a new series but with of the population against the idea of an avatar in a modern world. Possibly tired of bending in general
A more wastelandish series tho..almost like as if things were returning back to the state of the world in ALTA. These are just rough write ups but still, it would be a cool idea

They could make a series set in the far future (modern world) where bending is forgotten legends and the Avatar tries to be a superhero after they discover it.
that would be good fun. get clancy brown in there as a villain and we're set.
another way to take would be if the parents of the next avatar were anti-benders, and the avatar was told to keep their powers in line or not to use them because of reasons (parents can and tend to enforce their petty political biases onto kids). maybe the avatar would actually believe in it too until hagrid shows up and goes all you're a wizard harry on them.

I never really had a big problem with Jinora's astral projection abilities, mostly because I explained them to myself that, just like water (and as most of you already talked about today) has healing as an energybending-like subset, airbending probably has, well... astral projection?
Veeik and others already elaborated on this, but just wanted to state that it seems logical to me, although I understand why many would be frustrated that the show doesn't explain it, which is bad writing on their part.
In my mind, since waterbenders basically deal with the flow of energy, healing is simply making water and energy interact to catalyze the healing process. Of course, as Veeik says, this is more philosophy than physics, but it's in line with how the rest of the Avatar universe works.
Firebenders can use what energybending abilities they have to split chi into negative and positive, and bla bla bla Iroh explanation , lighting comes out.
Earthbending+energybending would be? Lavabending? I duhno. Maybe that's Bolin's destiny (lol).

For a slight moment in season 1 nonbenders were making that argument among many. But no. Technology plays a role in here for characters like Asami and the nonbenders who had the gloves to fight benders but ever since they've been gone that plot line Is dead. The red lotus just wants chaos/anarchy. The avatar represents order.
Those entropy lovers.
It's got to be building up to him learning Lavabending it would be so much better than him finally metalbending

Another past show would follow the same structure as ATLA. What's the point then? I'd rather they give us an actually modern or futuristic setting to show how bending and thr avatar fit into a world largely dominated by guns and high tech stuff.
They've said that if they did something after Korra, it would be an animated film. So I guess the question be more accurately be: if they did an animated film, what would you like to see?
I personally would not rather see a bunch of modern or hi-tech stuff. Unless they make it "different" like they did with Korra.

The thing about modern settings in shows with magic and stuff like that is that to keep it largely untouched by technology you need to have an excuse as to why they don't use tech. Harry Potter had the whole secret world of wizards that refused to use technology for some reason. If people used guns I feel battles would've ended in a much less spectacular fashion.
Avatar would probably need to do something similar unless we want the show to have bending as something only used in more personal battles. Which I'm personally fine with.

A "modern" setting for Avatar would require some creative writing to keep all the elements balanced. But I'd still like to see it. Korra already shows the beginnings of technology interacting with mystic bending arts. The equalist arc deserved more but demonstrated everybody else using science to counter magic.
Personally I would imagine a contemporary setting where some exotic technologies exist because bending, chi, and spirits gave science a lot of unique elements to work with. With the spirit world unlocked again, avatar's planet is too alive with powerful mystical entities to simply be paved over and turned into a copy of modern earth. Humanity would be forced to find a balance when their growing technological power began to directly run up against other forces. (But I guess we're seeing this in Korra with what's happening in Republic City, though it's kind of forgotten at the moment.)
An angle for the next series could be the new Avatar's role is no longer to keep balance between the human nations, but balance between humanity and everything else. Due to technology's potential power for abuse of the natural world. This could force the Avatar to run the risk of becoming an enemy of all human nations at the same time, if people as a whole take a bad turn in their relationship with the world. Could see a reversal of the ancient situation of humans oppressed by runaway spirits.

In terms of location, where do we expect this season to end? Ba Sing Se, the Metal City, or Republic City?

Finally got around to seeing episodes 9+10.
Best Korra season yet.
Really enjoying the villain interactions and their plans for carrying out the chaos belief. Pretty much confirms we will see Zuko's daughter if this expands into the next season.
So are people expecting some story twist with this Lahima guru due to the focus whenever Zaheer keeps mentioning him?

Guru Laghima and the founder of the Red Lotus (can't remember his name) are both fairly likely to come up, I think.
And yeah, I strongly suspect that Book 4 will be all about catching up with the Fire Nation, since we've seen so little of them until now but have gotten a thorough look at all of the other elemental cultures at this point.
I knew that part, but I just thought they had stayed with the Avatar prefix in the end.
Given Zaheer mentioning the president along with the queen, I would guess republic city. Which would be a shame because he doesn't seem like an incompetent leader.

They could've had a season of Meelo picking his nose for 13 episodes and it'd be better than season 2 so it's not much of a feat lol

Last weeks episode was fantastic, apart form some characters like Asami not getting quite as much development or involvement as I would have liked.
Speaking of the modern setting, it might be a bit similar to the first season of ATLA, where the Avatar was long since gone from the world and a lot of citizens had accepted that there was no hope. Of course, there are a lot of differences in the narrative and world with this idea that can make it full fledged and sit on its own.
The Earth Queen execution was brutal and surprising for a show to air on Nickelodeon. But it solidified the legitimacy of Zaheer's aims of anarchy, freedom and equality. This was again supported by Zaheer not letting one of the Red Lotus fire on the Radio communications person.

Next Avatar is an earthbender. New Earth King is just as corrupt as the earth queen which furthers the divide of the classs. Avatar is weaponized and is taught to hate all the other nations.
Boom. Instant zuko levels of character depth.
Or a world where the avatar cycle ended (korra dies in the avatar state) and we go centuries heading towards a grand imbalance as different people try to find different ways to bring back the avatar (such as 4 special benders that need to be sacrificed).

I find it funny that the way they make you empathize with the Red Lotus' cause is by having them kill what is easily the douchiest most unlikable leader I have seen in a while. It's too easy. If they had killed a kind, proud actually good king/queen instead there'd be less people saying "hey I can see where they're going with this"
What if the next Avatar was the Earth king/queen him/herself?

That would mean that the child of the earth queen would have to have a child right when Korra dies, and then die themselves.
That doesn't line up.
Is the Fire Lord (Zuko) actually an emperor? Or just a figurehead? Well, the Red Lotus wants to destroy governments in general, so there's no escape. We are headed towards one hell of a climax.
Someone said we have 3 episodes left? This season has done what I wanted season 2 to do. Make the series as a whole better.
I hope the next Avatar is male. So we can more likely get a female firebender for series 4.

I suppose it depends on how they rectify the whole overthrowing of the monarchy currently going on in the story. If there is another monarchy, it'll probably be a different family.
