Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Smash 64 has arguably the most character of any Smash. The announcer alone is pure hype!

Oh yeah. I forget all about skeleton.

Since this game is basically out in a month, when do you think we will get the last (few) character reveal(s)?

Yeah, we will. The question is when? It's more likely to speed up next week.

I feel like marketing will ramp up as soon as Hyrule Warriors is out on Thursday. This is Nintendo's next big game after that.

I agreed.

meh. this game's soundtrack will be better simply by having Galaxy and Xenoblade music

unless it doesn't have either, in which case this is the worst game ever

Quality > Quantity

The Melee soundtrack was much higher quality than Brawl's, but Brawl had more variety.

I'd rather they just orchestrated 3 songs for every stage and changed the my music feature to something that let you use custom music on a stage.

I mean, if most of the music they're going to use is just the original arrangement anyway, why not just let us use our own music?

I actually prefer Melee's soundtrack over Brawl's. Brawl's was massive, but most tracks are just the same tracks from the original games, which is boring imo. In Melee, most if not all tracks are remixes. In an ideal scenario, Sm4sh's soundtrack would be massive and at least 90% of the tracks would be remixes, but I know this isn't happening sadly.

Still have hope for some good remixes, since Gerudo Valley's remix is amazing. Maybe the 3DS version will have more remixes, since it only have two tracks per stage.

I'm stoked about the SSB4 art style! I always thought that Brawl and, to a lesser extent, Melee, had an awfully drab art style. It's a Nintendo fighting game! Make it colorful and crazy with lots of contrast and pop! And they did, which is awesome.

I mean, just compare Toon Link in Brawl and SSB4. He has this bizarre... pseudo-realistic look to him in Brawl, whereas in SSB4 he looks like a Toon Link should! Or at least he looks more or less like he does in Wind Waker. They just need to get those eyebrows above his hair...

It's criminal that we haven't heard any Pokemon B/W Music and have only heard X/Y music. B/W's OST was soooooo goooooddddd.

If nana's AI is too much, there are solutions, like dumbing her down, or not allowing desync (which might ruin competitive ice climbers) and having nana have no need to recover (teleports to you if she gets too far away) so that the AI doesn't have to be as smart.

I don't know how this has even been spun into a potential cause for removal. Game AI typically isn't "artificial intelligence". In Nana's case, it's a set of rules and corner cases to abide by. Simple logic, like:

If not attacking, and not in attack cooldown, move towards Popo on the X-Axis, then on the Y
If near Popo, mirror his movements on a frame delay

Citing this sort of thing as the reason for their potential removal is absolutely ridiculous. Logic like that is NES stuff. If anything, Sakurai was referring to the higher vertex count in comparison with other characters, or more likely, the difficulty in distinguishing 8 individual Ice Climbers running around on a 3DS-sized screen, in addition to whatever assist trophies and pokeballs may be active.

With their default poses and outfits in brawl:

Popo sits at 2902 tris

Nana at 2920 tris
Screen%20Shot%202014-07-30%20at%2020.23.24.png

And most other characters hovering around 5K or 6K.
Mario's at 5186
Screen%20Shot%202014-07-30%20at%2020.21.29.png

A pretty negligible difference, when put together. If there's any difficulty in having the Ice Climbers playable on 3DS - it's in the fact that the smaller screen makes distinguishing characters more difficult. And that's a design challenge, not a technical one.

Now can we stop with all this "3DS is holding Wii U back" garbage?

Doesn't help when most of those other amazing songs are sub-par quality though.

I don't remember melee having a single bad remix or songs that were just the original one pasted in, it was consistent. Brawl's wasn't.

Also Melee's music was orchestrated iirc, that alone puts it leagues above Brawl's mostly MIDI shit.

I personally didn't like Melee's soundtrack much... The only songs I like were FoD and Mach Rider.

This was today's episode of Surprising Opinions.

But you were able to filter out that inconsistency. I do wish Brawl had more great remixes on par with Melee's. But with Brawl's music control, it didn't matter if there were some songs that didn't work. You could easily get rid of them.

Brawl's soundtrack was my favorite soundtrack of all time. Yes, quality is more important, but the tracks in Brawl were very good, so it's not an issue. Very very few of them were straight rips and not rearranged.

Maybe its just me, but it bothers the crap out of me whenever I see Toon Link or even Young Link without a strap on his chest to hold the Master Sword to his back.

Well, it bothers me in all games when the main character's weapon is just "floating" or "stuck" to their back with no support.

Also, Toon Link not a true blonde confirmed. Look at those eyebrows

I'd say Paper Mario has as good a chance as anything. He has his own stage, he's visually unique, and he certainly would have no shortage of moves to draw upon. Being 2D that can bend and warp in a 3D fashion would make him unique from G&W, too. There are certainly enough games to justify him.
