Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Yeah they do, ever seen those Teen Beat and such magazines? I see them come through at work all the time and they're basically like CoroCoro.

Teen Beat went out of print years ago, didn't it? I remember that from when I was in middle school, but it disappeared after that. Besides, those magazines are usually celebrity-focused, right? Boy Bands aren't really my thing. What I want is a magazine like CoroCoro that focuses on video games and stuff like that. Nintendo Power was awesome back in the day.

Of course, maybe what I'm looking for already exists and I just don't know about it. If there's one thing I excel at, it's being out of the loop.

but Luigi just had a whole year to himself!

I know I'm opening up a can of worms here, but what is the appeal of Waluigi for most people? I don't mean that in an annoyed or "you like a dumb character" way, I'm legitimately asking.

Is it because he's so bad he's a funny troll character? Do you want him as the Dan of Smash Bros. and the various Mario spin-offs? Or do you actually find him to be a good and enjoyable character? I really want to know in what way most people are fans of him.
He's just terrible. The best possible kind of terrible.

It should be different, because it's a massive fuck up on Sakurai's part if he goes about it the same way and my interest in playing Sm4sh competitively just went way down.

The fact that this image exists, coupled with what we've seen today, does not make me think that he's going to treat custom moves differently to equipment and put them in an quick to access location.

God damn it.

Well, we know that the Amiibo can store movesets for the chars on there, we just don't know if they can be used for multiplayer char import. Maybe the will, I certainly hope so.

Ever since I saw that fake mockup for Wario & Waluigi: Partners in Crime a couple years ago, I've really wanted something like that to happen. An RPG starring Wario is bound to be a winner, and it would give Waluigi some much-needed character development. Conceptually, I can't see a single downside.

+1 for not understanding the appeal of Waluigi to anyone or anything. He and Wario are just so fucking obnoxious. But at least Wario has the WarioWare series to make him the least bit redeeming... Waluigi has nothing. Well, except that taunt in Mario Strikers Charged. That's pretty great.

But hey, different strokes and all that.

But again, Waluigi hasn't done anything outside of sports and kart and party spinoffs. Until he gets to be in more main role, I feel like his inclusion is a silly idea.

Let us not forget his starring role as DDR Mario Mix's antagonist. It's the role he was born for.

He wasn't the main antagonist. That was Bowser.

What, you didn't love him in the Wario Land series? He's still hilarious there.

You're forgetting Mario is Missing! and Dr. Luigi, to be fair.

This is personal preference talking, but I always tend to play as Luigi when he's offered (barring Smash Bros., where I can't say as I really feel him). Super Mario Bros. 2 (both types), Super Mario Advance 2 (SMB2 (US) Luigi in SMW, fwee), Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World, every Mario Kart ever made... Obviously these can't count as "starring" Luigi, but still.

are we listening to the same song????

those guitar plucks are AMAZING so be quiet..........

See, both of us hear the Spirit Temple in Lanayru. We can't both be wrong!

As for the Wind Temple, I'll agree on the guitar, and I like the little woodwind bits too. But that underlying synth track...good lord. It's horrendous. That synth is to me what the donkadonka beat is to you. No accounting for taste, I guess.

I like him from both angles. I always liked him in Mario Party and such, I would choose him Luigi and Daisy. Also my hatred for Mario and my love for Luigi made me appreciate him more than Wario.
As I grew up joke character became my favorites, Dan for me is the best Street Fighter. Once BitF introduced him as a joke character and I saw how many people hate him I accepted him as our savior.

Actually I realized that the quirkiness is one of the reasons I liked Luigi too. Just look at his Smash taunts and his side special!

Waluigi will only deserve to be on the roster when he has enough source material to create a viable moveset. Even as an AT, his moves are just knocked together from various sports games.
Rosalina didn't even have her own moves yet she made it.
Also what's wrong with the sports games? They sold more than the likes Kirby or Metroid.

Meh... sorry to say I was never able to get into the Wario Land series past the first one (SML 3). Just never really meshed with me. I've tried to play Wario Land 4 like three separate times and just gave up on it a couple hours in each time because I was just bored to tears. I'm sure part of it is that I really just can't get behind Wario as a protagonist. He's just not that funny to me. :P

I'm with you on that. Something about Wario Land never clicked for me either. Though, I don't really mind Wario.

Agreed. It's silly to ignore the spin-off titles when they're just as, if not, more successful and recognizable than a ton of represented franchises in Smash. If Waluigi were to ever be in Smash as a spin-off rep, he'd have a much larger pool of moveset potential to choose from than the majority of the fighters currently in Smash.

But whatever, he's a stupid character who's only in spin-offs that don't seem to get much notice in Smash other than items or stages, so I guess it's never happening. Unless if he ever appears in a Wario title. So I guess there's that.

A character doesn't need to have a starring role in order to have enough material for a moveset. Look at Bowser, Ganondorf, or Peach (yes, she has her own game, but none of her Smash moves are taken from it, iirc.) It's about having a developed-enough character to make a unique moveset. Rosalina, with her Luma buddies and her general space theme, had that.

Waluigi, on the other hand, doesn't. The only games he's been in are sports games, which are fine games, but they don't give Waluigi much that's unique to him. It's not about the popularity of the game, but whether they have anything that makes Waluigi unique character - whether they give him something no one else has. Every character in those games swings a golf club and hits a Dice Block. The only uniquely "Waluigi" things he has are the river from Mario Power Tennis and his role as the antagonist in DDR Mario Mix. I'm sure the river could be made into, say, a down special, and whatever groovy moves he's got in DDR could become normals, but I just don't think there's enough to give him a full and unique moveset.

I feel kind of similar. I played Shake It, Virtual Boy WL, WL2, and WL4 (and Wario World, but it's pretty different). I finished all of them but 4 (so far). From what I've played, the series has been enjoyable but not great.

Yeah, Wario Land is mediocre. WarioWare is where he shines.

But I thought " Melee "pros" " Didn't know how to play with items

Defined custom moves being as random as items? An option on the CSS where 2 people can set it up at the same time rather than having to go into the custom menu twice being more time consuming?

The fuck are you saying?

And, no, that's not the general consensus of the competitive community. It was before we knew the extent of custom moves, now it's 50/50 with most of the people against it erring on the side of skepticism rather than outright hating the idea.
I wasn't saying they were random as items. I was saying its too random especially considering characters like Palutena and the Miis are completely different if you change a move. Even something like the multihit fireball, which seems like a small alteration but makes the fireball an actually useful move. The approach to these is a lot more complex than fights without customizations. Basically as bad as introducing a couple items like Beam Sword, Ray gun and smoke ball. On the second point, I thought of a method that would work the best. Having another notch on the player's portait next to their name, opening a small menu where you highlight each special and change it that way.
The issues with having one person on the tv screen and one on the gamepad is that it assumes they programmed the gamepad to display something different from the tv when they are already on a time crunch. The other issue is that it would only apply to the gamepad player as letting them control anything is a bad idea if the gamepad player is a troll since he would be able to change the players customizations without the players knowing. So you still would be waiting for 3 players to choose. The only difference between this and going into other menus is that there is a couple seconds of menus and resetting the ko count.

Looking at the CoroCoro scan, my guess is right in that the hats in Smash are not the same as the Plaza ones. The Yoshi one does not have his nose. But yeah, nothing that fantastic otherwise.
Well the wide brimmed cowboy hat shown ages ago illustrated that original hats are a possibility, but when 90%+ seem to be based off of Plaza ones, people are not wrong in their wishing for their favourite hats to make an appearance. If ones favourite character can't make the cut, well hopefully ones favourite hat can.

Captain Falcon

Got me there.

I guess it comes down to whether Sakurai and his team can invent a moveset that will distinguish a character from the rest of the roster. Good source material helps, but, you're right, sometimes they can just pull something out of the air. So I suppose Waluigi isn't in because Sakurai either can't come up with anything truly unique for him or because he just doesn't want to include the character for some reason. Maybe he feels Mario, Luigi, and Wario are enough to cover that angle, and Waluigi would just be redundant.

Mysterious Masahiro Castle indeed.

Didn't Captain Falcon have an anime where they pulled his moves from? That's what I was told anyway.
