Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

They're still making Tomb Raider games?? Last one I knew was out was

tomb_raider_3_box.jpg

I'm sure this will get released on other consoles eventually a la Bioshock. Everything will be ok

As somebody that owns both consoles, I get the strong sense that there wouldn't be half as much whining if Rise Of The Tomb Raider were announced as a 2015 PS4 exclusive.

People want PS4 to win because of Sony's smart practices, so they'll celebrate any decision that benefits them, curse every one that doesn't align with that ideal.

Ninja Theory's HellBlade was announced as a timed exclusive to PS4, no bitching.

It's just fanboy BS at this point.

I get that people want to play as many games as possible on their platform of choice. Name a time where any console has ever received every single third party release, let alone at the exact same time. 16bit era? 32bit era? PS2 era? Last gen? Never. There were always deals as competitors tried to vie for advantage.

I have no problem with Microsoft using their advantage (a shit ton more money to throw around on securing 3rd party exclusive content) to try and mitigate Sony's advantage (a shit ton more internal studios to create exclusive content).

I have no problem with Square Enix, who has been rocky financially of late, taking guaranteed up-front money to finance the development of a game (or perhaps other projects) and temporarily delaying the money they would get from sales of the PS4 version.

I own all current gen consoles. Why in the world would i want to play a multiplat game on the less powerful systems?

I also own both consoles, so I have no real issue here as I'll be able to play Tomb Raider. That said, the bolded section is a completely irrelevant comparison.

Hellblade isn't an established IP. It isn't an established IP with a large fanbase on a different platform. A better comparison for Hellblade would be Sunset Overdrive.

Yep. It comes down to people just needing to buy the console that has what they want. It really is that simple.

I was surprised about this exclusive but I subscribe to the theory that they maybe want to avoid competing with Uncharted on the PS4 next year. This way they can give thirsty X1 fans comparable alternative and then release an ultimate edition later for PS4.

Wow so basically the ppl who cared to buy the first one your telling them too spend 560 if u dont have the xbox already. Lol wont b me bye TR.

Hope this time exclusive is only a few months because after playing the last one it would be a shame not to be able to play it for a while.

Yep, has nothing to do with it being a long running franchise of 20years? that's has history linked to PlayStation, nah it can't be that.
Plus I think the reason more Playstation owners are moaning is because there are more Playstation owners.

I don't own a PS4 or Xbox. I'm not a Tomb Raider fan.

It's perfectly reasonable to be upset about this without being a "fanboy."

Soul Calibur 2 was multiplatform and sold best on the GCN; then SC3 is a PS2 exclusive, leaving a ton of SC fans without the sequel. That was actually worse than this; because this is the first TR game on newer platforms, and most people haven't bought a new console.

Which Sony didn't pay for. The 100M user v. 20M user gap did. I mean, what kind of publisher is so stupid that given the choice between a clearly better selling console with forward momentum on it's side and a far less selling console with huge swaths of disinterest globally when deciding where to release a hopeful multi-million seller?

Other than SE I mean.

The hypocrisy of Sony fans.. This would be a null issue if it was reversed. :lol

You'd think so, but you'd be wrong.
The xbox and pc fans would be lashing out all the same.
And the sony fans would be wondering "why did Sony just waste all that money when we already have Uncharted 4 as an exclusive?"

Ninja Theory's HellBlade was announced as a timed exclusive to PS4, no bitching.

Bolded is the reason why.
You think xbawks fans (or anyone really) gives a shit about an exclusive NT game? :lol
If you want to see "exclusive to PS4 bitching" look into Bloodborne. ;)

It's amazing people are this clueless. Tomb Raider isn't a new IP. Rise of The Tomb Raider is a sequel to the game that just re-released in January on PS4 with a revamped Lara model for the sequels. Yet, those that bought and played it on PS4 are told to go fuck themselves because MS wrote them a fat check.

This is highly unexpected, and must've cost a pretty penny. Tomb Raider wasn't a world changing game but it's still one of those big IPs. Still, it's likely a timed exclusive. Unless the new game is amazing I don't see this doing much at all to turn the tide.

How many Hellblade games have there been on Xbox?

Hmm....0

How many Tomb Raider games were previously on Playstation/PC?

11 out of 14, 3 of them were on Gameboy, 2 of them exclusive stories

Microsoft moneyhatted to get Tomb Raider away from PS and PC which historically have had every major release.

Fanboy bitching my ass.

It's a smart move for SE. They won't go head to head with U4 and they will release during the after holiday lull on PS4/PC. Plus they get wheel barrels full of cash from MS.

I'm not sure MS is getting their moneys worth on this deal, but who know what it cost them.

Nah, its pretty much spot on.

I disagree. I'm a playstation only owner and I wouldn't want this to happen to xbox owners. It's a bad day when 3rd party publishers go exclusive. Square Enix made their bed. Won't be purchasing any future games from them or Crystal Dynamics.

I own all current gen consoles. Why in the world would i want to play a multiplat game on the less powerful systems?

I understand.

Thankfully, it's only a timed exclusive.

Furthermore, what do you want. For Microsoft to say 'well, we don't want to upset Snowblind, so we better not try to leverage our financial advantage to increase the perceived value of our product/lineup' and for Square Enix to say 'well, Snowblind doesn't want to wait to play the version on the better platform, so we better refuse guaranteed upfront money that we can invest immediately despite out rocky financial situation of late'?

There's a difference between being disappointed, and the kind of ridiculous ranting we've seen online in response to this (and no, I don't count you among the ranters, for the record).

Was the reaction better or worse than Bayonetta 2?

the Bayonetta 2 comparisons are really tired at this point. Bayonetta 2 was basically canceled and dead. Nintendo paid to make the game happen, Microsoft just paid to remove a game from another platform

If this was exclusive to playstation during Holiday 2015 this thread wouldn't be about money hatting it would be about questioning whether this was the beginning of the XB1 losing third party support.

this sucks, no doubt about it.
but last gen has changed the landscape completely. Historically linked to Playstation third party games doesn't really linked to Playstation any more than Xbox today.

It's Tomb Raider's history linked to PC? I know that's where I played the original games.

I haven't been a fan of tomb raider in a long time and the reboot looks horrible to me, but this seems so fucking bizarre.

And what the hell is Hellblade? I've never heard of this series in the past few generations. Is this some amazing franchise that is just now becoming and exclusive for reasons?

Well I wouldn't go that far. I would still buy a game from that company if it was good.

Clearly you haven't seen what happened with the whole Destiny situation. The Xbox fans are 1000 times worse.

That gif :lol

Are we gonna pretend like Rise of the Tomb Raider wasn't already announced, with people having pre-ordered it on other platforms?

The rule has always been, buy the platform with the games you want to play. Somewhere along the line, people switched over to 'buy the platform, then bitch and moan if every single game you want doesn't come out first and foremost on that platform'.

Im confused. Aren't those games still on playstation systems? We didn't lose them did we? So why does what happened in the past matter? This isn't even the first time Square has done this.

People are bitter because it's not on their system (yet). Everything else is just excuses to make it seem like that isn't the reason.
