PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

How many hours can i expext to get out of Phantom Breaker, and is there replay value?

Wonderig if its worth the price of admission, anyone?

I actually don't think Tearaway will do much better on PS4 than it did on Vita. I don't think the low Vita userbase was the problem as much as the type of game is was in the current market. The lack of people owning Vita's didn't help but it wasn't the only issue. I mean just look at Puppeteer on PS3. Fantastic platformer but it sold like shit. I just don't think there's much interest in those kind of new IP's at retail these days.

After reading your first sentence I was going to disagree, but you do bring up a good point with Puppeteer. I'm still optimistic Tearaway does pretty well on the PS4 though. One of my favorites from last year and I'm hoping a lot of people give it a try. After all it was very well received both review wise and player impressions.

I may double dip depending on just how different the environments are.

Trying to place credit to the real problem:

@Versus_Andrew: @notaxation @shahidkamal Agreed, need to not ask Shahid, but ask @yosp where the Sony 1st party support is at? (Gravity Rush 2) plenty indie

Anyone else?

Grabbed Pirate Warriors 2 and Tales of Symphonia (I keep typing Symphonica for some reason)

Nice sale.
Shame about the Vita though. SCE West really wants it dead.

No, I think it's SCE WWS in general. There were two "Japan Studio" games (at least one is outsourced) announced today for PS4. That's two more than what they announced for Vita this year.

I will most likely pick up Tearaway when I get a PS4, another reason not to get the Vita/Playstation TV

You wouldn't be able to play Tearaway on PSTV anyway.

Thanks for the advice, shame about the PS2 games (guess I was misinformed, I was told by a store rep it played PS2 games, should have checked). I do have some Vita games I want to play (P4 Golden, Ys, Gravity Rush), but the main pull for me was to play those older games I missed.

Well the thing is though, even if the Vita actually supported PS2 games, there's only a handful of them on PSN anyway.

Wasn't Puppeteer released around the PS4 launch? Same deal with Tearaway too, right? If so, then both having almost no advertisement really hurt both games (the former being out-shined by the PS4 while the latter also suffering from the same reason + the Vita's low instal base). That was also the deal with Ratchet Nexus too X(.

I really think Sony should have pulled Puppeteer and Ratchet Nexus off PS3 and made them PS4 launch games; both could have benefited from a higher frame-rate (the former being 30FPS while the later had frequent frame-rate drops) and the hype surrounding the PS4 :).

Tearaway will do well on PS4 because....its on PS4. Sony will advertise it this time out due to it being on a platform they give a shit about, so the game will get tons of press/ads so when it does launch next year, it will sell pretty well on PS4 :).

Well, the PS4 isn't doing great in Japan, so they have a reason for not supporting the Vita that much over there; the PS4 NEEDS more JP developed software to drive more hardware sales.

JP has amazing Vita support even including some big 3rd party exclusives (like Phantasy Star Nova for example :D), so the system will do fine over there.

The issue....is NA and EU :(. Once more hardware for PS4 is sold, SCEJ will go back to support the Vita more, but in NA/EU.....they are done with Vita X(. We didn't even get more HD remasters (something Sony has done a few times already; an Ico Collection I thought was a realistic announcement to happen....), but nothing from Sony themselves.

I can get lack of sales for Vita, but you need first party support to drive hardware X(. Sure, the wealth of Indie games, PS1/PSP games, and JP localizations are plentiful now but.....what about Sony software? This year we got God of War/Sly/Ratchet Collections, Vita Pets (wow :l....), Soul Sacrifice Delta and the upcoming Freedom Wars and Oshoka. Whats after that? NOTHING X(! We have no idea if Gravity Rush 2 is even coming to Vita (after Tearaway being pushed on PS4, they will have a field day porting over more Vita games to PS3/PS4; I'm betting Killzone Mercenary and Soul Sacrifice are next) and there is no indication on what other games Studio Japan has coming for Vita.

....I'm just going to stop :(, this is getting way to negative at this point X(.

Phantom Breaker description on the Store:

Smooth animation of retro 8-bitGraphic is highly evaluated, and player is increasing even now. Moreover, it has attractive game system of (Maximum)four on-line and off-line simultaneous co-op game play.

Yep, direct release from the Japanese publisher alright.

Phantom Breaker Battleground is pretty fun. Not quite as polished in presentation as Scott Pilgrim, but is anime Scott Pilgrim nonetheless... sweet combo system, layer switching and lvling up makes it feel more like Guardian Heroes.

1.1 GB though :/ yeesh... was this the game that someone imported and it only had a JPN PSN download code inside the box?

Also, smh @ X/O still being reversed... no wonder it gave me a trophy just for getting to the menu.

What does the DLC add again? lvl cap? Specifics would be nice.

I'll be shocked if Sony advertise Tearaway on PS4. Sony has a history of not bothering to advertise smaller titles, even on their major platforms. They'll advertise the bigger PS4 games, but I don't see them doing much for Tearaway outside of the internet. Sly 4 came out long before the PS4 launch and Sony didn't do shit to let people know it was coming out. And that's a somewhat well known Sony franchise that had way higher sales expectations than Tearaway is going to. Hell, they didn't even bother advertising a game like Twisted Metal in 2012. I don't think Sony will want to "waste" advertising money on a title like this. If Tearaway is going to sell it will do so via word of mouth.

Was on my way to Cologne during the press conference, so I couldn't see it live but it doesn't seem like I missed much in terms of Vita news... Paper's Please for Vita is nice though. I bought it on PC already but I will double dip for the portability.

do these even work on vita

Tom Clancy’s End War PS3/PS Vita/PSP
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 PS Vita/PSP
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Predator PS Vita/PSP
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas PS3/PS Vita/PSP
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Essentials PS3/PS Vita/PSP

It ups the level cap from 50 to 99 and adds Makise Kurisu from Steins;Gate.

News? Oh, the only news from Gamescom about the Vita was Tearaway being remastered for the PS4 :D! You know, that amazing Vita game that took advantage of the hardware perfectly and wasn't possible on any other device? Well MM is putting that on PS4 with new levels and mechanics that fit within the PS4 :). The best part? It isn't coming to Vita at all :D! ......Sorry for the sarcasm man :(.

I'm being serious though, outside of a few indie games coming to Vita (Papers Please, Sounds, ect) nothing else was shown off for the device sadly :(. No memory card price drops, no new HD Collections, no new Sony-developed games, nothing X(.

my Vita has ended up being one of the best gaming platforms I have ever owned. I have a gaming PC, PS3, PS4 and a 3DS in my house and I hardly touch anything but the vita. And my whole list of games to play next is dominated by the vita. The hardware is fantastic and there are so many great games left to play.

This is very true, and it's what makes Sony abandoning the platform so quickly all the more depressing. It's my favourite handheld ever both in terms of hardware and software, yet it could have been so much more if Sony just gave a fuck.

yep. feels like they have barely tried. so much untapped potential. so many Japanese games i want localized!

It's amusing how Sony makes such a big deal about any minor exclusive on PS4, even little additional content exclusive. But at the same time, are you disappointed in the lack of exclusive AAA title on Vita? It doesn't matter, look...we have tons of indie games! Yeah, they came out on PC last year...yeah, they're available on pretty much any other platform. But it doesn't matter, they're awesome!

Notable exception: Murasaki Baby.

I don't understand all the complaining about lack of Vita titles. There's no way for a company to release a AAA exclusive and make any money off of it, the install base is to low. Sony already lost that battle with the PSP.

At least they are encouraging indie devs to port to Vita and doing cross-buy for them.

What do you mean by the PSP part? The PSP had a fuck ton of great AAA titles. It was a god tier handheld in that aspect.

I know that and I agree.
Still, I found the contrast ironic.
