Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Yeah Sakurai, just take off on Obon, don't worry about the international fanbase. If we foreigners had any sense we'd be out celebrating Obon too!

He's probably celebrating by working from home. Or he's the only person in the entire Bandai-Namco building, slaving away until dawn, where a shellshocked intern will find him glass-eyed and twitching at his desk as he completes his 4th continuous, sleepless workday.

seriously his cocky face is pissing me off i wanna punch it!

OK. I'll check the others.
Marth: Simple/practical enough, although I dunno what's up with that striped design.
Est: Pretty much exactly the same design as the original, except with added details on weaponry/belt. Alright, even tho I already don't like the original design.
Catria: Are you fucking shitting me.
Palla: ALL THE STRAPS! \o/ Also what's up with that weird bulbous arm armor.
Alm: More detailed version of the original. I don't like the weird design choices, but I'll allow it.
Celica: We've been over that.
Seliph: C'mon.
Eldigan: Can't find full body art of his Awakening design, but the upper half is alright.
Leif: Could do without the flappy brown parts on his cape, but he's okay.
Roy: Now you can't tell me that THIS isn't over-designed. That's like, the definition.
There's so much shit going on holy cow.
Lyndis: Dem Liefeld feet. I guess this one is alright, though.
Eirika: Not even trying.
Ephraim: Looks decent enough, although I prefer the leather with a few steel guard pieces from Sacred Stones.
Ike: lolnope.
Elincia: Her original design was already a bit over the top, but this is even more ridiculous.
Micaiah: Been over it.
Katarina: That one is super borderline, but I think it's a bit over the top as well.

Okay, so out of 16 DLC characters, 9 characters are hell naw, 2 are borderline (Katarina and Alm), 1 already started out pretty bad (Est), and 4 are actually practical. Still not particularly convinced me of Awakening's designs being great.
This I agree with you with. Didn't like Roy's DLC design at all for exactly that reason.

although tbh I don't really know how to argue with you once the goalposts have been moved to 'practical', because yeah, art degree fantasy armour.

I will say that you could probably put big holes in a bunch of FE characters if you were putting them all under the same lens you're putting the DLC characters, even a lot of Tellius ones. Priority has and always should be on recognizable and distinct characters.

What is this madness? I go to see Guardians of the Galaxy and you people are an hour late with the pic of the day?

I came back to see ten new pages... I expected hype!
Haha! We were actually joking you'd be done with the movie before it went up.

EDIT: And, apparently you were what we were missing. META KNIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!

...This image has literally become true. It is 4AM on the East Coast, and we're all furiously trying to click on miiverse, or the Smash website to see if the POTD is posted yet.

Maybe. I still believe that the older designs are better based on their simplicity, even if they're not the super-most practical stuff. Like, this one knight from Awakening I posted, with that huge ass shoulder piece? That is over the top. Maybe not over-designed, but over the top. I feel like simpler character designs lend themselves much more to being easily recognizable because, well, they're easier to memorize.
