I would still say that the US government should make African Americans/Black people a protected class of citizens.

That would require simultaneously officially recognizing institutionalized racism and stepping in to alleviate it while allowing its continued existence.

So in the words of Wyclef Jean, "no no no no, that'll never happen."

What the heck - Obama has no business getting into this. President causing more harm than good. People die everyday from sad deaths -- the president of the country should remain neutral.

He absolutely should NOT! He's supposed to be a leader not a referee.

I assume most African Americans would be fine with just being treated as equals finally. Trying to make them a protected class would stir up a shitstorm worse than acknowledging institutional racism.

I love how you equate sad deaths (which could be anything) to being slain by a police officer while unnarmed.

How is he causing more harm than good? Yea people die from sad deaths...no one is disputing that but from what we hear this is not just a sad death this was murder. Then you throw in the way the protests have been handled I say he damn well should make a statement and get involved.

Why on earth should he remain neutral when he is the President of the country this is happening in?

Oh shit everybody talking about communism now. I'll try to get us back on track!

Have we learned if cops houses have actually been burnt down? Has there been any news reports about that yet?
yup, whenever a part of society wants social change or social justice = they are branded automatically as Communists (Tea Bagger logic)

Obama, like usually, is always late to act in moments of crisis. Boo hoo you're on vacation. Take a minute out of your vacation, make a statement and have Holder send in the FBI to clamp down on the Cops in Furgesson

Please articulate why there is any harm being done by drawing attention to matters that concern the entire nation. The facts are absolutely not neutral and perpetuating the assumption that they are by feigning neutrality is what does the harm. Consider what you're truly suggesting he remain neutral between - State sanctioned and approved murder of unarmed black man and what? What is there to be neutral about here?

The choice between the police force and people is a false goddamn choice as it's the people that decide what is good for people and only then allow police the privilege of enforcing that ideal. Police can shut the fuck up and listen, they have no say in a single fucking they do. There is nothing to be neutral between here and Obama didn't even begin to go deep enough in his comments thus far anyways.

He absolutely should NOT! He's supposed to be a leader not a referee.

So far he's only commented on racially charged crimes - it causes more harm to the country than good by dividing people into black vs white.

Because it will cause a racial divide in the country. The President should not address personal tragedies, unless he's planning on talking about all of them. Instead he should look into how police forces are operated and managed.

The President needs to manage on a macro level, not micro. Laws regarding police shootings need to be reexamined.

IN MY OPINION, the President should stay away from our personal affairs and only address issues on the a federal level. And on a federal level he can state the police force needs to be reeled in.

So far he's only commented on racially charged crimes - it causes more harm to the country than good by dividing people into black vs white.

He's commenting on issues and questions that are prevalent and are being asked by the masses. You think he can comment on every single crime that occurs in the country? Racially charged crimes are heavy on people's minds today. I don't know how ducking his head in the sand would help anything.

Are you really claiming that he has only commented on racially charged crimes?
These are not "personal affairs" this is not some isolated incident that happens rarely.

Edit: By the way, there is already a racial divide in this country and the President commenting on the death of a black teenager with only increase that divide for racists.

The president shouldn't be seen giving a shit about black people?

Some of ya'll don't even think before you type.

Tell, what good the president's statement did us? I want to see changes not statements.

The president shouldn't give a shit about anyone of us on a personal level. His focus should be on running the country as a whole macro vs micro.

He's commenting on issues and questions that are prevalent and are being asked by the masses. You think he can comment on every single crime that occurs in the country? Racially charged crimes are heavy on people's minds today. I don't know how ducking his head in the sand would help anything.

Obviously everyone has their own opinions on the matter and mines is not rather popular.

Doesn't matter, you claimed that he has only commented on racially charged crimes. Which is complete bullshit and you know it.

The President has commented on nearly all the recent highly publicized crimes, Sandyhook, Colorado theater shooting, Trayvon Martin, Sikh temple shooting and on and on.

Yes, and he shouldn't comment on income inequality because that's creating class warfare. He absolutely should talk about the issues and bring it to front to the public as a whole so we can have a discussion. If not now, then when? This country still faces many issues and every time something tragic happens, "it's not a good time to talk about it".

I bet the only reason Obama even made a statement was because people were complaining about him not giving a statement. Now that he has, other people are now complaining that he shouldn't have. His words mean nothing in this case except to the family of the victim.

So far he's only commented on racially charged crimes - it causes more harm to the country than good by dividing people into black vs white.

He issued a statement on Robin Williams' suicide. As far as I know, him hanging himself was not racially charged, nor did it divide the country. And this isn't just a racially charged crime. The police, people that are paid to serve and protect, are killing unarmed civilians -- that is also an issue. That is scary to me. Not just the fact that these victims, more often than not, are black.

Indeed. When I was talking about it, I meant him commenting on individuals. Either way, it doesn't matter. I want less comments from Obama and more changes.

This is not a personal incident as you keep claiming. This is a murder that led to protests and rioting, this is very much something the president should comment on.
He didn't comment on Eric Gardner's death did he?

Yet in your little rant you still didn't clarify what he meant.
Sure I did. Let me add a few words to help you out: He doesn't understand where the fuck you got the insane notion that whatever Lime was proposing would lead to "blacks killing whites fearing there would no reprisal."

I'm sorry but you are starting to piss me off now. Please explain what he originally meant then, that was my first intention when replying to your post.

Comments from Obama on gay rights is largely what gave the gay marriage movement the momentum it has today.

Also, this particular individual happens to be covered in the media a lot but it speaks to a nation-wide problem that people are becoming increasingly upset about.
