How is he causing more harm than good? Yea people die from sad deaths...no one is disputing that but from what we hear this is not just a sad death this was murder. Then you throw in the way the protests have been handled I say he damn well should make a statement and get involved.

Please articulate why there is any harm being done by drawing attention to matters that concern the entire nation. The facts are absolutely not neutral and perpetuating the assumption that they are by feigning neutrality is what does the harm. Consider what you're truly suggesting he remain neutral between - State sanctioned and approved murder of unarmed black man and what? What is there to be neutral about here?
The choice between the police force and people is a false goddamn choice as it's the people that decide what is good for people and only then allow police the privilege of enforcing that ideal. Police can shut the fuck up and listen, they have no say in a single fucking they do. There is nothing to be neutral between here and Obama didn't even begin to go deep enough in his comments thus far anyways.
So far he's only commented on racially charged crimes - it causes more harm to the country than good by dividing people into black vs white.

Because it will cause a racial divide in the country. The President should not address personal tragedies, unless he's planning on talking about all of them. Instead he should look into how police forces are operated and managed.
The President needs to manage on a macro level, not micro. Laws regarding police shootings need to be reexamined.
IN MY OPINION, the President should stay away from our personal affairs and only address issues on the a federal level. And on a federal level he can state the police force needs to be reeled in.
He's commenting on issues and questions that are prevalent and are being asked by the masses. You think he can comment on every single crime that occurs in the country? Racially charged crimes are heavy on people's minds today. I don't know how ducking his head in the sand would help anything.

It's not an either/or thing. Communication is a big part of change.

Also, this particular individual happens to be covered in the media a lot but it speaks to a nation-wide problem that people are becoming increasingly upset about.
